I appreciate all your videos. As a coach returning after a 10 year layover, you're helping me get back up to speed.

I appreciate all your videos. I have a 10 year old son and I’m 52, yes late start. I’ve been coaching or help coaching most of his teams. I haven’t played since High School, 2 of my brothers played in college and I grew up with a batting cage in the backyard. My fundamentals are decent and I feel I’ve been helpful to the kids. I purchased your infield program and it’s been very helpful with drills for the boys. My question is about hitting. Teaching kids pre-pitch preparation and how to be on time. Obviously kids like to mimic their favorite players. You see lots of MLB players with a very upright posture or even leaning back arching the lower back pre-pitch before they start the front shoulder back and get to their loaded position. Is this just a routine for timing or reminder to stay loaded in the back hip with a more of a flat back foot?

❓I've got a question for you, Matt. I can't seem to get an answer that I believe. I remember hearing pitchers, 20+ years ago, say that they wanted to use a ball for as long as they could. Their reasoning behind it was that if the ball was scuffed, blemished, they could make the ball move more and make it do things that you couldn't normally do with a fresh ball. Nowadays if a ball is put into play, even once, the pitcher almost always asks for a new ball. Why is that? Thanks.

For you young hitters out there I would take his advice and don't think that hitting off of a tee won't make you a better hitter. This is just one of the ways to make you a better hitter and yes move the tee around to where you are hitting the ball to all fields. But there are a few things that you can do by yourself and see I hit left handed and threw left handed. So one thing that you can do is take the knob of your bat and put it right there at your bellybutton and then take the bat and find a wall or a fence or something. Because what your going to do is take a few swings but what it does is that it makes you keep your hands inside of the baseball. But if you don't have anyone throwing to you then there are some drills that you can do. So one is before you pick up a bat to hit make sure that you are balanced at the plate and make sure that you are getting your front foot down in time.also make sure that you are in the hitting position. But also try to stay balanced throughout your swing but take the tee and work on hitting the ball to leftfield and then to centerfield and then work on hitting the ball to right field. Because you don't to be leaning over the plate while trying to hit the ball but instead try to stay balanced and try to drive the ball to all fields. Another thing that I would do before I stepped in the batters box is I would make sure that my bat is reaching both sides of the plate so that I could get to all pitches. But if you have someone that can throw to you then work on soft toss and if they have a screen that they can get behind. Because what they want to do is setup the screen close enough to throw to you because you want to work on your hands and the goal is to make you quick with your hands. But yea for young players out there I would take his advice

That’s what I’m trying to get my little brother to see but he tries to argue. I’ll definitely show him this comment.

Yea see I've played highschool baseball and nothing is promised you have to earn your way on the team because they want those who wants it more. I don't know how old your little brother is or what grade he is in but if he wants to play at the next level then this is something that he has to do. See major leaguers hit off the tee all the time that is what has made them the players that they are today but he has to work at it at every level

I’m one of those that only gets to hit off a tee :/ occasionally I get a soft toss session from the wife but being 40 maybe I ought to just hang up the bat. Nobody to throw BP that I trust and if I go to the cages with my kids and step in myself to hit other parents get pissy about it. Baseball parents kinda suck

My 5yo likes to stop his swing when he makes contact (modified tee ball), any tips to help him follow through with his swing after contact?

Curious if you've seen/heard of this issue before.
I've got scoliosis, so my right shoulder sits lower than my left (right handed). Now that I understand my f'd up body more than I did as a teenager I can understand out that always caused me to have bat dip despite having HR/fences with lumber power. Like ALWAYS struggled not destroying the rubber of the tee when not concentrating it.
Any advice on drills? It's not just too heavy a bat so traditional advice most coaches give kids of lift or get a smaller bat don't seem fitting.

Change your aim and try to hit the top of the ball

A pointer I give hitters to use while hitting off of a Tee is to hit the ball only and not the tee. In other words, if the tee is moving when you hit the ball, you're not gaining the ball to at coordination planted in your brain.
