Australia has wonderful storytellers and wonderful actors. I wish they would stay in Australia and make greatness like this instead of fleeing to Hollywood at the drop of a hat.
Omg...what a beautiful experience this was...the actors deserve awards...everyone's one of them...especially the guy who plays fish.amazing piece of film.the narrator was mesmerising. A genuine work of art that you would never get from plastic Hollywood. It touched my soul...and I'm living in Ireland. ..
I don't watch tv much especially mini series but cloudstreet was by far the most unforgettable mesmerising tale I ever did see. I laughed I cried I felt emotions that gave me. Goosebumps and my hairs on my neck rise. I watch it every 3 months and have for years now but I'll never get tired of it. I'm shocked that most people are unaware of such a truly amazing show based on the struggles and tribulations of two families bought together under one roof .
Can someone explain what this movie is about. I don’t understand why Fish wants to go back to the water all time. And are we in His imagination world on the boat? And what’s with all the fish going in the boat? And why is the aboriginal man always around? There’s so many questions I didn’t get
Fish is obsessed with the water because when he drowned there, a part of his spirit went into the water. When he came back, he was missing that essential part, the part with all the love and determination and humour - the things that made Fish who he was. That's why he can never remember Oriel, despite her being his mother and saving his life. Saving his life is why he can't remember her, as she was the one to drag Fish away from his safe, warm water where his head was left behind. On the boat (I'm assuming you're referring to Quick when the fish jump on the boat), it's not really an imaginary moment per se but an element of magical realism, which Tim Winton includes in the novel. It is symbolic and strange but it is happening "in this world". Also, the aboriginal man isn't so heavily in the book, i think they emphasise his role in the movie and play to show the colonial influence of the story. The story is about a white family, living on stolen land who've also come from the country - the aboriginal man is the tie to the land. It could also be read in other ways, such as him being symbolic of luck - "the shifty shadow" as Sam refers to it. He follows no pattern and comes and goes like the wind. I hope this answered some questions, I know you posted this like a year ago but if this helped, I'm glad.

@3indamorning I don't think it's a seperate song. I think it's from the television series' soundtrack score, perhaps?
