A big part of our thrifty living comes in the form of gardening and preserving what we grow. Our fig trees are in full fruit, and we are putting up as much as we can. Yum!

Nice way of preserving figs Madam. I have a fig tree and now it has started to harvesting. I am trying to make dry fruits naturally at home. Thanks for sharing this beautiful vlog.

Thanks, that was a fun video. There is nothing better on a cold winter's day than eating something that I grew in the summer and preserved it, A little touch of delicious summer in the winter. It is a passion of mine as well, eating healthy and thrifty. Can't beat it. Julie

Here is a good link: farmflavor.com/how-to-blanch-and-freeze-summer-squash-and-zucchini/. I usually make zucchini breads/cakes from mine, so I grate and freeze. This works well to put in spaghetti sauce as well. I have invested in a large chest freezer and I use it to the max.Happy perserving, Julie

greenerpastures1000 I cut it up into halved rounds with some onions and blanch it. I strain the water & pat dry. Then I bag it up into freezer bags. Ready to go! I usually cook mine in a skillet with some butter, salt, pepper, and a teensy bit of sugar. :) YUM

Just finished watching your latest haul video and remembered.... before I get offline, I needed to look up how to store figs, and when this one came up I (at first) thought, "what happened?" when I saw you.... I thought audio and video had crossed up or something... LOL Funny where you find someone you didn't know did OTHER videos on UA-cam! Off to pick the figs before the mocking birds do!

@@aprilmay7816 I just recently purchased a dehydrator because I tend to waste too much food. For instance I’ll buy a head of cabbage and before I can eat half of it the other half has spoiled and the same with carrots and sometimes spinach too…before I can cook it, it’s gone bad. So I’m dehydrating so I don’t waste as much food and also just for food storage in case of emergencies. In case you’re interested, I did a LOT of research on the dehydrators and the best one I could find for a decent amount of money was the Nesco Gardenmaster FD-1040. It comes with 4 trays and can expand to 12 and has a timer and an automatic shutoff and is 1000 watts. I got it at Walmart online for around $90.00.
