A big part of our thrifty living comes in the form of gardening and preserving what we grow. Our fig trees are in full fruit, and we are putting up as much as we can. Yum!

Nice way of preserving figs Madam. I have a fig tree and now it has started to harvesting. I am trying to make dry fruits naturally at home. Thanks for sharing this beautiful vlog.
Thanks, that was a fun video. There is nothing better on a cold winter's day than eating something that I grew in the summer and preserved it, A little touch of delicious summer in the winter. It is a passion of mine as well, eating healthy and thrifty. Can't beat it. Julie
Thriftypapergarden Yes! Thank you! I'm with you. I put up lots of summer squash just for that reason. Yum!!
Texas Gal Treasures How did you prep the summer squash? I have so much that I could feed a third world country! Any ideas would be great.
Here is a good link: farmflavor.com/how-to-blanch-and-freeze-summer-squash-and-zucchini/. I usually make zucchini breads/cakes from mine, so I grate and freeze. This works well to put in spaghetti sauce as well. I have invested in a large chest freezer and I use it to the max.Happy perserving, Julie
oooooh! yummmmy!!! Thank you!
greenerpastures1000 I cut it up into halved rounds with some onions and blanch it. I strain the water & pat dry. Then I bag it up into freezer bags. Ready to go! I usually cook mine in a skillet with some butter, salt, pepper, and a teensy bit of sugar. :) YUM
Those figs look yummy...its great have fresh fruit in the backyard we had a huge harvest of Santa Rosa Plums and Black Berries ..just waiting for my Persimmons to ripen now....Nice Video TGT.
Dirt and Rust Oh! Plums! I wish they grew here. Plums make such pretty jelly, and I have now officailly killed 2 persimmon trees here. They just won't make it. :( Thank you!!

Oh my God what a family top layer is eaten up
Great video, I am curious what variety of fig these were? I have a bunch of fig trees but they are still fairly small so I won’t be harvesting enough figs to try this on for a few years.
Very nice informative vedio and speaker is very nicely spoken
Just finished watching your latest haul video and remembered.... before I get offline, I needed to look up how to store figs, and when this one came up I (at first) thought, "what happened?" when I saw you.... I thought audio and video had crossed up or something... LOL Funny where you find someone you didn't know did OTHER videos on UA-cam! Off to pick the figs before the mocking birds do!
Keep temp below 118°F to preserve nutrients
What brand and model dehydrator are you using in this video?
Watching form Zimbabwe 🥰
How to dry figs easily thanks for shearing
They look good Bon appetite
Great insight good video 👍💯👍I have a few fig trees in my Portland Oregon neighborhood that grow over the sidewalk and no one harvest them so every year I pick a bunch of the large ones before they split open and fall my question is are the small unripe fruit left on the tree the next years fruit or can those be picked and dried as well 👍
Did you mention the temperature and how long it took in the dehydrator ?
Hello, nice video. how long the process takes with the machine?
I think about 8 hours.
thanks for sharing. i've dried fresh figs in my dehydrator and they basically turned out the same way as yours. here's the big question: why don't yours nor mine look like the kind of dried figs we find in the store. i'm talking about organic, unsulfered figs. any thoughts?
If they're anything like raisins they may be sun dried!
Thanks!
no sugar??
Does drying the machine give the same result of drying the sun in terms of taste؟
No. These are crispy, when finished, but reconstitute in water
What kind of prep other than cutting?
Do you rotate your trays?
When you freeze then over night do you put a lid on the jar???
Yes
Swap you with limes. Also, new project, banana grove. Not grown in New Zealand. Growing lady fingers. Very sucessful. Thanks. Is in line with your nature - hunter gatherer. Interesting.
What is the temperature of the dehydrator?
I think it's about 150
i want to known more. there are many big fig plants but don't known the variety are same or not.
It depends on what does well in your area

Your figs look lovely but next time will you offer up some practical tips or specific do’s or don’ts please? xx
How much does the dehydrator cost?
Have you purchased a dehydrator yet?
@@coolstamper .... no, not yet....rats, birds, Squirrels and fig beetles eating away most of my figs anyway..
@@aprilmay7816 I just recently purchased a dehydrator because I tend to waste too much food. For instance I’ll buy a head of cabbage and before I can eat half of it the other half has spoiled and the same with carrots and sometimes spinach too…before I can cook it, it’s gone bad. So I’m dehydrating so I don’t waste as much food and also just for food storage in case of emergencies. In case you’re interested, I did a LOT of research on the dehydrators and the best one I could find for a decent amount of money was the Nesco Gardenmaster FD-1040. It comes with 4 trays and can expand to 12 and has a timer and an automatic shutoff and is 1000 watts. I got it at Walmart online for around $90.00.
@@coolstamper ..... thank you so very much for the great and useful information....I will definitely think about it! Thanks again 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
@@aprilmay7816 You’re welcome!!! There are TONS of videos out there on dehydrating. Here are two GREAT people that I follow on UA-cam who are VERY knowledgeable if you’d just like to look into it. They give GREAT advice, tips, and tricks: RoseRed and The Purposeful Pantry

Thank you O Lord for Fig Trees ! Gracious Jesus they sure are good eaten !! ;)))))
