Hi Tomo! I just discovered your channel recently and I love it! My dad went to Berklee in the late 90s before I was born. Im in school for aerospace engineering but still enjoy playing the guitar a ton (as you can imagine, with a lot of influence from my dad). I find your lessons to be very engaging and your playing style amazingly pleasant to listen to. Even though guitar is only a hobby for me I am working to improve as much as I can. Thank you!
So delighted to hear that! Guitar playing is for fun first! It doesn't really matter to be a professional or hobby. In a way, you can be good at guitar playing as high as get!! Actually I have been teaching a great Texas Blues Guitarist Sue Foley's son who is studying at MIT in Boston. You're welcome! My son is studying Chemistry at Johns Hopkins now! Keep playing guitar!!!
I’ve been playing for about 2 years now but I haven’t be consistent so I’m at the beginning of being intermediate but since I was little I heard story’s about a school that has the best musicians in the world and I’ve always had this voice in the back of my head telling me to be part of it and become someone great. I’m going to audition next year and I have A LOT of work and improving to do but It would be amazing to one day maybe have you as my teacher
Thank you so much for sharing! Very important to understand how to learn! Don't listen to anyone. Listen to your heart! You can join my Guitar Wisdom today!
Thank you for the wisdom! I think the problem with a lot of Berkeley applicants is as you said they all play the same thing so going outside of your comfort zone and really making a song your own is an amazing idea! Thank you 🙏
You're welcome! Typical problem is 1) Don't have specific goals. 2) Practice means, just go on UA-cam to find any backing track and jam! (the most worst practice routine ever!!) 3) ..... (You can write sometime here!) Thank you!!

This video really is helpfull, because Im currently preparing to get into conservatory in Brussels (Belgium.). Its nice getting an insight on how to audition. My teacher is currently perparing me for it, in the end it all comes down to me practising ofcourse.
I'm 18 and I live far away from boston, in small russian city. It feels impossible to find any jazz teachers here. My dream is to leave this cold country and attend berklee, but of course i can't do it without scholarship. I've been playing guitar for 7 years and have good skills but theory and improvisation is something uncomfortable for me. The only thing i can do is play pentatonics. Would your guitar wisdom course help me at this point? Your story really inspired me, Tomo. You was poor foreigner as me, but you fulfilled your dream, so i can do it, too (especially with the internet haha!). Thank you, Tomo, for all free advices you give for us. Your youtube activity is priceless! So now i feel like i wanna pay for these advices and for lessons from your guitar wisdom
Thanks for your notes! You should join my Guitar Wisdom site. I am making more new contents all the times. It has been really good so far... I've been preparing for Berklee's college of music but then I ran into some personal problems that made me miss the process because I was busy. I watched this video today and realized how I only focused in the prepared piece and not improvisation. Thank you Tomo for opening my eyes hahaha, I will get a teacher as soon as possible! But everything happens for a reason so know I got more time to upgrade my skills and my equipment too! P.S: I'm 19 years old, is there any problem entering with 20 years?
You're so young and there are a lot of possibilities. I went to Berklee when I was 21 (entered) but I got my scholarship when I was 19. It's audition so your improvisation (solo) on your preparing piece, better all thought out every details! You're welcome! Please watch my Berklee Audition videos (2 of them!!)

Hello Tomo, first things first, great video as always. I am subscribed to your channel as well as your guitar wisdom and I feel so great that I am finally learning... actually learning!! Your courses have helped me break out of my year long rut and I am beyond grateful to you for that! Now as I am getting more engulfed in music and my guitar, I started to get ideas of furthering my studies by perhaps going to study in Berklee! Hence why I’m commenting under this video haha but my question to you is I am interested in having maybe a few Skype lessons with you. Was wondering if you could be so kind to perhaps provide more info on your rates as well as availability and best way to contact you in regards to this matter. Thank you so very much for all you do Tomo and I hope to hear back soon.

@@TomoFujitaMusic lol thanks for those tips sir, but I know my future is not being a musician as so many more talented guitarist than me are out there. So I am just quiting guitar. By the way thanks for the tips.
You're welcome! Don't decide right this moment! You have many choices and possibilities! Yes, there are many great guitar players. But nobody born with "talented" Talented means someone has been working ass off 24/7 on one specific goal with a lot of passion. Just like building a nice house! You need to make a solid foundation so that you can build something on top! You can make yourself to be "talented musician" if you committed to your goal with a lot of pure efforts!! You're very special being you and you have a lot of choices if you want to be!! Be positive no matter what!!
hello tomo im a guitarist but i dont play electric guitar nor classical guitar most schools only accept classical guitar but berklee accepts electric guitar but the problem is that im a flamenco guitarist and i cant find a good flamenco guitar college and ive been dying to know if berklee accepts flamenco guitarists or not
Mr. Fujita, I've just now subscribed to your guitar wisdom program and it is very useful, thank you so much for providing people with so much learning material and being so active on youtube. That said, I am planning on applying to Berklee this year and I cannot find a proper Berklee graduate to teach me here in Greece. Is it necessary to get a teacher that graduated from Berklee if I want a scholarship?
Thanks so much! I teach much more detail video lessons and super easy theory lessons at my Guitar Wisdom! Just added new lessons!! tomojustfunky.com/tomo-fujita-guitar-practice-advice/
The logical way of becoming a pro musician is to teach yourself.hire a teacher.get a guitar and a amp.find a group of guys find a name for your band.practice.get a manager and go gig at the local bar.that makes more sense than going to berklee and spending 200.000 dollars and being in debt
Hi Tomo i see your videos always i love them and i love your song, It's perfect to practice every day. I try to make a sólo with your recomendations. in this video i thing that you say chordtone and chordchange and i dont Know what is this. Thank you again and gretings from Canary Islands(sorry my english is not very good)
When the teacher is playing for the improvisation section, are you allowed to ask what the chord changes or key is? Or do you have to just figure it out by ear?
Don't worry! Don't compare! Don't expect too fast! Be kind to yourself! For audition, you just sit back and listen what to do! You can ask any questions!

Hi Mr. Fujita. Greeting from HK. I'm recently planning to apply the graduate programs of Berklee and I have certain questions to ask. I've been learning and playing piano since I was 5. Few years ago I started self-teaching electric guitar and I found that I was really passionate to guitar and sound engineering stuff like that. What I want to know is, is it possible taking the master of music in piano performance and also learning guitar skills and sound engineering skills at the same time? Because I want to be a versatile musician and learning more things about music industry. Thank you for the video. Have a nice day!

Tomo - I love these lessons! They are without a doubt the most informational lessons on youtube. A couple years back, I auditioned for berklee and sadly didn't get in. Now, I go to Ohio State, which for me is an okay school, but I don't know what I'm doing when I'm not around music. I'm auditioning in December again for Ohio State's music program (even though it isn't amazing) and I was doing some research on the audition requirements only to find that they were harder than Berklee's! My question is, do you think it's even worth my time to go to this, or should I just audition for Berklee again?
That's so great to hear that. Thanks so much! Don't worry! Audition is all about proper preparation and sometime it doesn't work well. Then you can prepare more that the first time! You really need to study someone who really understand about Berklee College Of Music. You need to study someone really can help you to prepare proper way (at least 6 months or more!!) I teach via Skype Lessons. You should really study at my Guitar Wisdom site. Only $7.99 a month with a lot of information, lessons.
TomoFujitaMusic Tomo, thank you so much for the reply! I think I’m gonna invest in your online courses as well as seeing how that audition goes, it just looks like more technical stuff to me, as there are eight requirements. The one that scares me is playing some scales in all keys, which I don’t have memorized yet. I’ll figure something out for that, though. Thanks so much!
You're welcome! I think you are going to learn a lot of foundation from my Guitar Wisdom site. I already posted so many lessons include "Triads" "7th chords" "Ear Training" "Phrasing" "Blues" "Jazz Blues" Jazz Phrases" ...I put all my experiences and knowledges into my TFGW. I am making new videos today! More backing tracks (real performance by ME) are coming. Don't memorize! Understand them with degrees/colores. That's where all you need is to understand each triads over the fretboard! (Not CAGED system! Don't become under system CADED in!!)
TomoFujitaMusic Those phrasing lessons will certainly help because I need to break out of the pentatonic. Also, I’m glad that you don’t want people using CAGED, I thought about learning it before, but it seems limiting and doesn’t factor in things like modes.

First contact Berklee admissions for all important information. You can take a few private lessons from Berklee professors so you know what to prepare. Do not do your own with your own guess.
So, if I could already play like that just for an audition WHY would I need to go to Berkeley? This is the issue I have with all talent based universities. What can they teach students if they are already that good and what value is a degree from them if I can already work at that level?
How do you really know that you reached certain level! Please ask @zackgibs about that. He is so talented but he still enjoys studying st Berklee! Now he plays many wedding band on weekend and so he can pay his rents etc. I still can learn more and more!!
Please check this guy out! He is amazing level! He is Berklee student. He is making his album right now. He will go LA soon... you will see his name very soon! What do you think? ua-cam.com/users/saxofonologo
I know this is an old comment but I just wanted to chime in here -- One MAJOR factor is to build an incredible network with a bunch of talented musicians along the way. There's no way you'll come across more people dedicated to their musicianship and art in one setting than in a talent-based college like Berklee. But you don't just build a network with your colleagues/peers: you would have personal connections to the teachers, such as masters in the field like Mr Fujita. And by extension, you'll then have access to an even crazier network of musicians that Mr Fujita knows. And it goes on and on...
This is hilarious. So how many Grammy awards do you have? Your number one mistake is thinking Berklee (not Berkeley) is a college of learning how to play your instrument well. That’s the least of it. It’s a college of music. There are students and people working in the music industry who don’t even play an instrument. Most of the time you are learning at Berklee, you are not even touching an instrument. Can you write music? Arrange music? Can I hand you something which has never been played by anyone before and you can sight read it in a studio setting so we can get you out of there in three takes or less? How many bands have you played in? How many other musicians have you played with? This question tells me both that you’re not nearly as amazing as you think you are, and are clueless about music and the music industry overall. And it’s the same with other ‘talent based’ colleges. If you go to a college of performing arts thinking you’ve already mastered it-music, art, acting, dance, you name it-you’re going to get your butt kicked and fail out. I’m a Berklee alumni, both student and staff, but I graduated from Harvard. Berklee was much harder than Harvard, because at Berklee you need to learn new knowledge and skills, and be able to perform them soon after. When you see a performing artist at the top of their profession like Eddie Van Halen or John Mayer, there’s a lot more to what makes them so amazing than their ability to play guitar. You’re seeing a tiny fraction of all that goes into their work. John Mayer, I knew him as a student; that kid was all work; no matter what he chose to do in life, he was going to be successful; it had less to do with how well he plays guitar than how hard he worked at everything else.

Great to hear that. I don't know you so I have no idea whats your interest & whats your strength. Something can you play much better than other 50 guitar players next you?
Prepare something tasty chords, harmony that you cannot improvise them on the spot! Something that you have been preparing everyday for over month (At least!) before the audition. Think about this, someone has a gig to perform. As a pro, we prepare that 90 days before that tour or gigs start...

Hey tomo! I’m a brazilian guy who sings and plays piano. I have great interest in getting into berklee but as a foreign it would be impossible for me to invest. Only if I Have a almost full scholarship and even with that I would have to save years of money for only to go to boston and do my audition You know?. Which I think I’d get accepted because I’ve been studying since I was a kid both singing and playing piano. But I get sad of thinking the harsh way to get there! Like it’s always harsh and for almost everyone seems impossible. But for foreign is something even worse😂 But I really would love to go to berklee. One thing I think would help me is if I get into the college with the scholarship I need, I could earn some bucks with my music while studying in boston? Or something like that. Even another job just to pay and to survive in the city. Could you just help me with that?
That's all possible. One of my former students was from Venezuela and she got a full scholarship. But you have to work really really hard to prepare. First thing you need to do is to contact Berklee admissions.

Any could help me? I am an International student. I want to study in USA in Music Production. But I can't afford more than $10000-12000 tuition fees in a year. I need a scholarship also, could you guys suggest me which university will be best for me? thanks, advance.
You should prepare well! Learn foundation! Practice your guitar! Join my Guitar Wisdom so you can check all important things. If you want to receive enough scholarship, you need to invest your talent! That was I did! I took jazz guitar lessons so I could learn music theory and jazz harmony, transcribing skills. Good preparation and no magic!
Sir first of all....great video...I'm 16 I would like to give audition when I would be 18...so is it not like percentage based?for instance if I get 80% then I would have to pay 80% less for my full stay in berklee..??is it like that??can you kindly explain...
Or you could get a record deal and suck your way to the top.just playing drop d power chords.you would actually make a million dollars.you go to berklee learn scales and rack up debt
First, very important following: Don't worry! Don't compare! Don't expect too fast! Be nice to yourself! If you don't anything, nothing will happen but if you do your pure hard work, then something possible to happen. That's you are looking for, planning now!! New Tomo Fujita USA WebSite

No matter what styles, what levels you are, we can learn more and more! I think the bottom line is personal deduction so its not so much about whether "better or not" It's just another option or opportunity!! My case, I only could go to Berklee if I got my scholarship! That's what I explained about how I did that part. Not only study guitar, you can meet people, experience culture and many thing!
Their is alot you do not need to be a guitarist.most scales and arpeggios do not sound good.angus young knows 6 chords and pentatonic bluesy scales.and is famous highly succesfull.and is a multi millionaire.acdc and metallica is proof you do not need a guitar school
Another way to become a musician is to detune your istrument and play heavy riffs and power chords.get a drummer to play fast blast beats.and get a singer scream his guts out into a microphone.your better off doing that instead of berklee
You go to berklee and spend 200,000 dollars.and can get the same info for free off the internet.then you graduate and wind up in a cover band making 100 dollars a night.with a debt of 100,000 doallrs.any sane musician would be smart not to go to berklee
Free information (Internet) 50/50 quality information! One of my students (at Berklee) He makes $600-800 per gig (Wedding/Function gig) A few students of mine, I taught social media... they make really good income from UA-cam and other things. So there are a lot of ways.
Going to berklee is a very dumb thing to do.average cost is 100,000 to 200,000 dollars.only 3 percent of musicians become acdc rich and big.with todays technology.you can learn any scale arpeggio or song ever written on the internet.the average working musician makes 18 to 24,000 dollars a year.berklee puts you in debt of 100,000 dollars

Hello Tomo, first things first, great video as always. I am subscribed to your channel as well as your guitar wisdom and I feel so great that I am finally learning... actually learning!! Your courses have helped me break out of my year long rut and I am beyond grateful to you for that! Be positive no matter what!!
hello tomo
im a guitarist but i dont play electric guitar nor classical guitar
most schools only accept classical guitar
but berklee accepts electric guitar
but the problem is that im a flamenco guitarist and i cant find a good flamenco guitar college and ive been dying to know if berklee accepts flamenco guitarists or not

You are very welcome! No need, as long as that teacher had enough experiences with real music college auditions.

The logical way of becoming a pro musician is to teach yourself.hire a teacher.get a guitar and a amp.find a group of guys find a name for your band.practice.get a manager and go gig at the local bar.that makes more sense than going to berklee and spending 200.000 dollars and being in debt

Hi Mr.
You can ask all these questions to Berklee Admissions! They can answer the details. Many possibilities. You're welcome!
In 14 and I’m watching these videos already lol

This guy is great 🤟🏼
Thank you!! Please join my Guitar Wisdom. I teach everything there! Only $9.99 a month subscription video lessons so all you have to do is skip one lunch a month!
Bottom line is all up to you!
Great Mr. Fujita. One question the book that you show up do you have it in English version?.
Only Japanese version or Chinese version are available. Not so much written by words so just get a regular Japanese version from Ebay. Search " Tomo Fujita, Solo Guitar Etude " Learn tunes by CD, music, tabs!! You will learn something really valuable!! Great prepare piece for music school audition!!

didn't know professor Snape also works for Berklee College Of Music @,@
I want to take admission at Barklee College of Music in Vocal Stream, what will you advise to Me ?
First contact Berklee admissions for all important information.
You can take a few private lessons from Berklee professors so you know what to prepare. Do not do your own with your own guess.
@@TomoFujitaMusic How I can Contact please tell me.If I fail in the audition, how many more chances can I get?
You can google Berklee website & look for admissions.
Please take your time to prepare well. You can ask that question to admission office.
John Ohkuma-Thiel Crikey John that was a rant and a half 😂. Anyway did you enjoy Berklee? Was it worth it? What are you doing now ?
Hi Tomo, what amp do you recommend to have fun with, under 300? Would be nice to experiment with it.
Used Fender Blues Jr
Used Fender Champ 12

Great to hear that. I don't know you so I have no idea whats your interest & whats your strength. Something can you play much better than other 50 guitar players next you?
Prepare something tasty chords, harmony that you cannot improvise them on the spot! Something that you have been preparing everyday for over month (At least!) before the audition. Think about this, someone has a gig to perform. As a pro, we prepare that 90 days before that tour or gigs start...

Hi Tomo, what should I do if I'm in Australia and wish to audition?
You can contact Berklee Admission office!

Thanks for sharing!

When I went to Berklee in 1987. One semester was $2500!
I got full scholarship. Without that I could not go to Berklee.
Music is win. Not guitar is win
