Hey all, I didn’t upload the last video on prices from Paris because many of the files had sound issues, apologies for that. If you enjoyed this video be sure to give it a like. Cheers!
I went to the world cup in Qatar and I was certainly surprised. It was super clean, very safe and modern. I would say the biggest factor for me was the shock of seeing those three things, becuase I had a certain perception of before going and that was completely shattered when I arrived there. I would definitely go visit again in a few years. Great to see Doha though through your video!
The western lïberals indoctrinated you into thinking the Middle East is inhabited by barbarians. You had this ill perception of Muslims due to your inability to escape your liberal programming. May Allah guide you
I was doing media work during the World Cup so I arrived about two weeks before the whole thing kicked off - it was such a surprise how much I actually enjoyed it. I'd heard all the negatives, but once I was there it all went out of my mind. It was incredibly clean, efficient with how regular and well run the metro was, the locals when you did meet them seemed genuinely grateful that you were there, we had a lovely interaction with a local mother and child in the Souq. I was honestly amazed and despite being exhausted from being flat out working the entire time, I was sad to go. Luckily I had two days off work before I flew home and it was just full of experiencing the whole city for one last time. Very interesting to see the difference between Doha then and now - in particular the metro. I didn't even realise they had barriers because they weren't even in operation the entire time because most people were able to travel for free with their Hayya cards. I would definitely be interested in experiencing Doha after the World Cup if I was able to go back at some point
Very well put together video! I'm here in Doha now, in Lusail. I've been here many times in the last 20 years. This is my 2nd trip in a year and I am totally enjoying it here!
Thanks for a great videos as usual!... I lived in Qatar from 1999 to 2005 ... much has changed, but the Cornich is still good! Brings back great memories thank you!
Everything is so modern and clean. Yes, you said it's what it would look like if Disney had designed it. Too bad you didn't have enough time to see the neighborhoods where people lived. That would give the tourist a better view of the country. Great video.
My World Cup experience in Doha was unforgettable. The whole place was just stunning; modern and efficient with the historic culture mixed in too. The locals and volunteers (for the WC) were all so friendly and would move mountains to help you. It would be strange to go back when it’s so quiet during a ‘normal’ period of time. Very fond memories though!
Hi Jason thank you for the nice video well done I went to Qatar in world cup periode it was really best time ever they did organise best world cup we waiting your next destination cheers mate
Nice! reminds me so much of Dubai 😃Now, I'm contemplating flying with Qatar Airways and taking advantage of the layover to explore Doha. Looking forward to your next destination. Take care, Jason!
Qatar Airways was voted best airline in the world last year I think. Doha airport is also rather impressive. Worth doing if you’re on a long haul trip.
Fantastic video Jason, it certainly is a beautiful city with lots of interesting building etc, enjoy your stay weather looks great mind you anywhere outside of the UK looks good at present, stay safe.
I am the first viewer in this video ... I watch your video now and then and your exploring is super cool .by the way I am from Bangladesh . I live in dhaka at uttara to be more exact
Eres el mejor , me encanta la forma tan relajada que explicas , puedo entender todo lo que dices, gracias por hacer tan lindos videos @Jason Billam Travel
Hey Jason...is it more expensive to stay in doha for a couple of days like you instead of directly just transiting and travel onwards in terms of flight prices?
You have only covered like 2% of what Doha could actually offer !!! There is still West Bay Area where it had nice beaches and awesome night life… and Katara cultural village where it has a high end shopping street plus amphitheater where many renowned international artists preformed there and many tons of activities also a beach… and you didn’t cover the pearl island where it has three districts Porto Arabia, qanat Qurtier, Marina central … and you didn’t cover lusail city the modern side of Qatar. It’s an entire city with downtown, waterfront resturants, bars,, also home to international restaurants like Zuma, billionaire, tatel, nammos etc also winter wonderland and other Doha quest theme park home to the longest indoor roller coaster and highest drop tower in the world … It’s defiantly worth staying 4-7 days in Doha to cover everything and enjoy it not just few hours as you stated
You’re right, there’s so much more to see (I should have said that in the video). It was just a quick stopover video to check out the vibe. Next time I’ll go deeper.
Just great video bro qatar is not green country but very beautiful country i hope more videos of qatar will come stay well stay safe from gazipur bangladesh
In 1999 I went to Qatar on a business trip. During a meeting with a government official I mentioned that I would like to see the souk before I had to leave the following evening. The next morning a young soldier arrived at my hotel with instructions to give me a tour that included the souk. He took me to the national museum and the old souk. He also showed me where he lived. He was so proud of his country. 20 years later I was able to take my wife to Qatar on a layover. I was so disappointed to see that the old souk had been replaced by the new version that you saw. While the new version is very nice, it is not as mysterious as the original. Like many of it’s neighbors, Qatar has lots of money and looks shinny and new but lags the world in it’s treatment of women and immigrants. Many people avoid middle eastern countries because of this. I think people traveling and meeting other people is the best way to learn about each others cultures and hopefully spread the better aspects around the world.
Great video as usual! It's interesting that a country is dwarfed by the newest immigrants. I know Qatar is a very small nation, which I am assuming is pretty much dominated by Doha. It looks very clean and nice. Not sure if it was the time of day, or where you filmed but it doesn't look very bustling. Actually, it looks very chill. I think definitely somewhere I would visit. Very interested in where you are going now! Hoping you get to South America. I am heading there in the Fall (Argentina & Uruguay). I wish I could travel full time. It's such a passion of mine!
@@JasonBillamTravel Excellent! South America has so many amazing countries and places. I look forward to that. I have seen other youtubers do vids but you are one of the best at travel because you show the country and its sites and not the silly things others focus on.
Nice. Do you have to obtain permit to shot videos in Qatar, Jason? What I am hearing is that taking photos and videos in Qatar is something to be done wisely.
Really good video, Jason. Interesting to see the cultural differences, ie. almost all the people on the Corniche are men. I don't know much about the Middle East but I'm surprised that an Arabic Islamic country like Qatar doesn't seem to have any clothing restrictions for women. In the souq, you have Qatari women almost completely covered up in burqas and Western tourists in shorts and T shirts. It's great that Qataris don't impose their culture on others but I guess they wouldn't be too happy if a woman was dressed in a very revealing way. It seems that wealth usually brings some level of tolerance while the poorest countries tend to be very conservative.
Yes, it’s overwhelmingly men, pretty interesting. In terms of tourists wearing shorts etc that’s part of what I was alluding to in the video - the country has probably become more familiar to to things like that because of the World Cup.
I work in Qatar.. nothing negative here. This country provides safety to everyone including women.. So far I have not felt any problem.. Tourism will improve with time. Buildings built in European style, clean and well maintained places are all unique to Qatar.
