Changing a thermostat on a TD42 GQ Nissan Patrol

Since I've owned my GQ I've noticed the temp gauge hardly moves off cold - flying against the reputation as a kettle I know but I suspected that either the thermostat has been previously removed, or the old one is just jammed open. So a quick visit to my local auto parts store and I have a new dayco DT42E thermostat (54mm 77degC). Now the auto store parts has linked a Dayco DTG43 gasket to my vehicle however this one is not correct for my vehicle as the bolt hole PCD is too small. I'd welcome any suggestions in the comments on why the gasket may be different.
