- In this episode i hear distressing news of the TD42 Patrol coming home on a trailer. The TD42 engine was overheating bad, and the kettle had well and truly boiled. We diagnose the issue and i headed out to Patrolapart to get a new waterpump, then we replace the old one! removing fan shroud, fan, temp coupling (viscous hub), pully and then the water pump. We replace the coolant and then give her a send in the hopes that this is the issue! Let us know if your TD42 overheats

Why spend thousands on a 12v setup when you have blend 43 and a kettle 42
Who needs lithium battery packs when you got a factory kettle 42
The waterpump will have a weep or tell tale hole at the bottom, often if you see coolant leaking from beneath the waterpump it can be the tell tale hole, this hole is designed to leak as an indicator to show the seals have failed in the water pump, best to grab the shaft and give it a wiggle to check for any play in the bearings aswell
Thanks for the info Angus! cheers!
Yeah we later realised thats where it was leaking from, cheers angus!
Tourqe spec aye 😂 never heard of him
Also should do some victory circles on some gravel for a couple mins and make sure it stays cool still also
if you ever have to take your shroud or rad out again, the shroud is actually two piece! clips in half so you can pull one half out the top, undo the fan then pull the other half out 🤙🏼
Oh that would of made it so much easier! cheers for the info Jackson!
Using a kettle to tow another kettle 🤣. I bet once you fix the pump it'll never overheat and drive like just before (until another leak pops). But I see one reason why those GQs overheat, the fans and hub are pretty small for the engine size
Awesome GQ videos. Definitely learning a lot.
Would of been a very good time to service the viscous hub and clean the radiator fins from behind
yesterday i did my engine engine temps did exact;y what yours did except mine dumped all the coolant into my engine drained it about to rip head off im hoping its just a head gasket fail will see
Great vid. Very informative
Thanks George! Appriciate it!
Red coolant into a sytem that had green coolant?
But good vids guys!
HAHAHA its all we had!
No issues with changing colour if the old stuff is well flushed out
100% with a propper flush
Turbo it!
Great stuff fella
oh not the td
water pump was way better than mine was 😂😂😂😂
North eastern suburbs of where, Sydney , Albury , Melbourne , Perth. Not that im on any of those towns.. Im wagga
Google lilydale
Can you install a differential locker in a patrol ? I'll do a video
great video, also can me and my band film a music video at your property, i will email u after.
Email me! Cheers

Damn son, shoulda bought a Tb48 💦💦💪
Should've bought a Toyota
2:52 probably the only time I’ve ever seen someone catch the coolant when they drain the block...
Also, put some silicone oil in your viscous hub. She would be dying for a refill, like most old TD42’s.
Cheers Callum!
Happy days by looks of it got it turned off in time before heads got destroyed. Nice work🤙👌
Cheers ... nice name 😂 !
Thank you that means alot 😂👌
At least remove radiator and clean mud out of the fins and flush radiator 😣
9:25 I feel this vibe as a patrol owner. And when it starts it sends out a colossal amount of grey/black smoke cause of the unburnt diesel 😂
Should fte swap
😂 sacrilege
If you do a swap I want to buy a td42 complete but dead for a rebuild swap for tb42.
Yeeew
🤙🤙
How the fuck do you cook td42? Worlds lowest probability of engine failure. Yet you’ve managed to do it?
Hey bro quick tip since it's been hot chuck a thermostat in it.. will have done some damage to it now
preventitive maitenence is the best just change stuff every few years before it lets go
Noticed you didn't use Demineralised water!
we are on rain water at our house so still better than mains!!
Some local boys! Good video fellas
torqued the water. pump bolts yeah right ok
Hi! Have a good day!
Thanks Lego!!! Cheers !
All good! P.s. (Aussies rule)
You boys are beli beli gud ( hongkong version) .
grate video guyes your chanel isone of my faviriots
Thanks man!! Appriciate it!
Loving the videos guys, thanks for the sticker !!
Cheers Bomber!! legend!
Heard that majour issues can occur with not properly flushing the block before changing coolant from green to red.
I’d recommend a coolant flush boys !!!
If the the temp gauge stays on cool, it's time to replace your thermostat.... And if it's been over heating, it has probably damaged your thermostat...
If the engine is running cold, it will be wearing your engine prematurely...
2:00 if only he know he was going to own one
you shouldn’t mix coolant. if has green coolant that’s what you put back in it. probably should of put a new thermostat in it aswell.
Lol patrol a part..... absolutely definitely.... Bloody tds
i always try to never use tap water for my coolant, i always go the demineralised water for flush and filling.
I haven't been to there new place when did they move off the main road?
Next time on Aussie Arvos, Liam replaces the head gasket and warped head in his Patrol. oof
😂😂
Can't kill the mighty td42
Flushing the radiator/heat exchanger, a new thermostat, viscous clutch oil, belts would have been worth doing. Those heads end up with cracks all through them as well, hopefully not your issue
Yeah definitely ! Cheers Dino!
How far is yea from you
my first couple of L hours were done in that lilydale estate
Where is the coolant drain on the block? Cant seem to find mine
Steering wheel looks to be in the right spot 🤔😄
100th comment lads yeeew
or maybe that was the one in bayswater
solid vid boys !
one of your better videos guys !!!!

Cheers Mahesh!!!
It's been a while for me love the vids man
Thank you!!! ☺️
the title is the best
HAHAHAH thanks JEZ!
Why doesn't anyone high flow their pumps so as to avoid cavitation and promote proper coolant flow
Have heard many times that faster flow doesn't help as it doesnt give the coolant time to absorb the heat properly. Would like to know the truth tho...
@@Snook_ Yeah I have heard that as well and its unfounded, the transfer rate of heat from water to aluminum or copper is almost instant, its in the milliseconds, as far as efficiency is concerned the faster the flow the more efficient the cooling, Pretty much the only time this isn't true is space shuttles entering earths atmosphere, going so fast that the moisture in the air actually boils. Like if you dip your finger into boiling water will you feel it immediately ? or do you have to wait like 2mins or so to give the boiling water time to transfer the heat to your finger ??
On ya boys good info. Keep it up
Cheers Lenny!!
Love what you boys are doing, keep it up!
Thanks Rod!!
Great vid 👍
Thanks shendy!!
Time for a turbo?
I rekcon!!
That'll give more overheating problems.
Even though I'm mechanic this video helps me alot!!! Thanks mate. Love your work!
More adds in this video than paint on that door
video had a copyrighted song it it! so it just has heaps of ads in it from the artist! not my ads! sorry!
Just do d the tb42. 3core radiator, twin thermo, hoses, thermostat, high capacity pump with cast iron impeller.
The cavitation damage on the timing cover is fierce though.
How was yours?
