@@thunderthumbz3293 not to mention a car flipper is someone who literally buys a car, then sells it at a profit without putting any real money into it and typically in a short time frame. If anything, if he was buying cars, repairing them to road legal condition, and then selling them, he would be more accurately be called a rebuilder.
But to say "you can't sell any of your cars ever" is ludicrous.

I work as a Damage Appraiser for Insurance companies, I'm the guy that'll say whether a car is totaled or not. In CT if the cost of damage exceeds 70% of the cars value it's totaled. I've seen cars get totaled out from having a scratch down the side. It's kinda crazy.

I’ve owned a 07 m6 for 3 years and it was great, No issues at all except for when it sits in my garage during winter and I don’t start her up for a few months then I run into bad coils/throttle bodies/plugs, basically the car needs to be driven and not sat, so I wouldn’t go as far as saying “m” cars are not reliable!!, the v10s are bullet proof, 2-10 cars have to go through the bad bearing bs otherwise they are solid cars and love to rev!!

FLIPPING : For me, I think flipping is buying and selling (relatively quickly and not driving it much) for a profit. Nothing wrong with that. In my view, Sam does his projects for fun. The fun of finding a suitable candidate, the fun of winning an auction within his budget, the fun of figuring out an approach that will allow for a safe rebuild, without just buying new OEM parts, fun in driving it for awhile, fun in making these videos with his pals. Does this allow Sam to make money from youtube videos ? Of course. Does this allow manufacturers make money through supporting Sam with free parts/ services ? Yes. Sam makes some money doing these videos. We viewers win by watching someone who is a great communicator, a humble guy who is honest, who shares his knowledge freely, supports the school for mentally disabled people, and makes videos about safety and how not to make mistakes doing projects by yourself. This is one of my top 3 favourite youtube videos. Good for Sam. And good for us. Wishing Mr. Sam continued success and many more safe driving miles

Good info.. I just bought a 2015 Mustang that was a Salvage title because it was stolen. Only damage was the smaller driverside window. The dealer I bought it from, had it inspected to become a rebuilt title. I saved about 8K over a one without a rebuilt title. Car only has 11K miles, so it was a awesome deal.

I bought a 2008 Jeep Commander with 130k miles from copart for $875. It was police repossessed, had oxidization on the hood, didn't come with keys. Made 2 set of keys for it and it runs great. The previous owner had a lot of work done to it recently according to the service record. New exhaust, new muffler, new radiator, new alternator, new water pump, new rotors, new pads, new spark plugs...I had it in my driveway with no plates and had a guy offer me $4500 cash for it. It wasn't even for sale. That would be the easiest flip in the world if I was interested in flipping.

Vanos, Rod Bearings, SMG Pump, potential suspension issues, coolant pipe leaks, valve stem seals, and etc... etc... If it was a strut replacement, then that def was a steal. The engine alone is worth 10k to 15k when I last looked it up. Keep up the good work with the channel!!! AND YES!!! You should do a M6 for the next car.

The real risk with this BMW is that it didn't run/drive at the auction place. That could've been very bad news, SMG gearbox needing a rebuild or the rod bearings on the V10 going bad are common failures for that car. Each of those is more than $10,000 to fix!!! There are also a bunch of other parts that are specific to the M6 and not a regular 6 series, which if the underbody was all tore up, could add to a pretty hefty parts bill. On newer BMW M cars, they share a lot more parts with their less expensive counterparts, example engine in a new M5 is the same as the V8 in the 550i and 7 series, just a different tune, maybe bigger turbos and a couple other tweaks.

Copart fees could be $500 depending on what account. If they don't have a dealer account, at least up here in Canuckistan, the fees on top of the price works out to be about 50%.
Frankly, I don't know why more BMW etc dealers don't get into these cars. They can literally get all the parts and labour at cost. Kind of like the dealership that specialize in lemon buy back cars.

Could be a recovered theft. That would explain the minimal damage and being sold by insurance. If the vehicle was damaged by comp or coll and could be repaired, the insurance company is going to repair it. In other cases when a vehicle is being repaired and an unexpected supplement for hidden damage pushes the repair cost over the state threshold for a total, the insurance company will complete the repairs and then send the car to the salvage auction.

You know i shopped for a M6 last year. and looked and drove like 5 of them. from 60-80k miles. all had some kind of issues. most common was idle problem the rpm would jump up and down when parked. some paddle shifters were broken off. some just destroyed everywhere from previous owner. An engine failure will run you 30k plus labor to replace on it. most common issue dsg transmissions pump goes out. 3-5k to fix it? Have to be very careful when buying those type of cars.

The only issue with this car besides obviously the ones you mentioned, is this is the sister to the M5 V10.... PPI Recommended and damn near mandatory... do your own research and you will see why.

Although it turned out okay for the buyer, undercarriage damage could have been a cracked sump which could have led to an engine seizure. I would have seen this as a risky buy.

The wording is something you just have to ignore. I was duped on a craigslist description saying "96800 Meticulous maintained one owner miles" this was the standard quote on all of this guys cars listed and hes a Auction buyer and flipper. Granted he is honoring his VERBAL warrantee with me and is replacing the pistons, rings, timing chain tensioner and rear main seal on my 2010 AUDI A4 Quattro which has the infamous burning of a quart of oil every 150 miles. Love the car but it needs help and I should of done more research and should of just brought it to an AUDI dealer to check it out before i jumped.

I looked at a copart SRT charger the other day. Listed as under carriage run and Drive. Started her up and she fired right up, but was ticking. It was then I noticed the oil light was on. Shut her down and low and behold the oil pan had been ripped out. Now I’m sure if you replace the oil pan the motor maybe ok, but for how long??? The same maybe true for that BMW. Why was it E if the car ran and Drive ?? Something is fishy if you ask me.

"Flipping" new cars for higher than MSRP = Evil.
Buying a salvage car, fixing it, and selling it for a profit? Business. As long as you're honest with any buyers about damages/repairs done, what's the issue?

  • @circuitandcam
    @circuitandcam 6 років тому

Though I agree you are not a flipper, the ad revenue you generated solely from videos on the Audi would have at least covered the difference/created profit from the cost of buying and rebuilding the car.

Nothing wrong with flipping a few cars if it helps pay for the projects and rebuilds. Atleast sell them for what you got in them and break even.

Do you try to stay away from AWD cars/Suv or Diesels ?. I would like to get ahold of a Mazda CX-5 or CX-3 AWD. Just curious. The CX-5's are so nice with leather stitched Dashes.
