u gotta be favourite mua on yt no wasting time, no bullshit for views, no hidden ads and always posting exactly what everyone is looking for ur tutorials are always so easy to understand and beginner friendly, i love that so much
It’s amazing how you explained this and taught me WHY I need to do certain things- I’m 56, and my daughter was the first one that said ‘NOMG mom let me do your makeup!!’ I was blown away by the amount of knowledge she had and knew exactly what to do with all of the makeup. She said ‘UA-cam mom, it’s more than just documentary videos!’ Even tho you’re clearly younger than I am this single video taught me more in 10 minutes than I’d learned in decades. Thank you.
I'm almost 50 and wish I'd had these resources of info in my 20s. I still don't understand a lot of things but it's more than I'd known when I was younger. I didn't even know how to use an eyebrow pencil. 😆 I just shaped my brows thru tweezing and I didn't have a lot to work with. It's amazing how much info is out there to help us.
I just spent the last hour watching videos on contouring, and literally EVERY single video cuts so you can’t see them fully blending everything out in real time. It’s annoying bc I wanna watch how it actually blends into the skin from start to finish. You are the ONLY one to actually show everything the whole entire time you’re contouring! It makes so much sense when you’re explaining and showing it - thank you so much for being an incredible teacher! ❤❤
My interest in makeup has been a very slow development. As a kid I didn't really care to do it bc I was too lazy low key but I liked it on other ppl, when I entered my 20s I wanted to get into it so I could feel more feminine in a way and I've had a lot of fun experimenting with different colors and stuff. But I've lacked a lot of the technique to ensure that my makeup actually looks good every time so I really really appreciate videos like this that do a proper breakdown of do's and don'ts. I really love the simple and calm demeanor while explaining and emphasizing that one technique may not be wrong, but just not right for you personally. All while still helping me to understand how to figure out what will be best for me when I do my makeup next time. Subscribed!!
I love my wide African nose, and have been avoiding nose contour as I don't want to slim it much, but this helps a lot. I love seeing how different placements on different feature shapes change a whole look!
Healthy reminder these are flattering to Alexandra’s face specifically and what looks good on one face may not look good on another! What doesn’t work for her may very well work for you, hold room for improvement but don’t feel bad if something is “wrong” for her but works for you. 💛
I like that she explained why each thing did/didn't work on her face, so if your features are different you can take the concept and use it to your own best advantage. Like someone who doesn't have a double chin or soft jawline (haha not me) maybe would look better with that harder line that goes from the ear.
I'm a pro artist (as in painting not makeup) and always contoured like how i'd draw/shade a face, which means doing the opposite of what many makeup tutorials tell you lol. It's pretty much all the 'do's' you just mentioned
Same here! Actually, I improved a lot of my makeup skills simply by intuitively analyzing what I was doing "wrong" and "right" in my drawings and imitating that on my face... I swear, out of nowhere I completely changed the way I contour my face by instinct. Also, the reverse thing happens, especially with eyes, as I watch makeup tutorials for fun, I am able to transfer it to my drawing and it looks so fun
And about the "don'ts" she made I always thought they were a bad idea (like scooping the cheekbone and the "chin enhancer" one) and I couldn't explain why. but hearing her say the thing she said makes so much sense... You probably get what I'm saying
As an artist myself I do this too. I love putting on makeup because it feels like I'm making a drawing, and I get to control what my face looks like lol. I love trying out new techniques.
I’m still a beginner at age 61 so I really appreciate you explaining WHY we’re contouring in each area- thank you! Also, your mouth and teeth are mesmerizing as you speak 👄
Shocked at how different the sides are! Love your new jawline placement, I feel like this might work well for me too! Kinda insane how the “bad” side is really common placement, but it totally gives jowls and the jawline shadow created a double chin that didn’t exist before ….wild!
I didn't realize how opposite I had been doing my makeup for years, I just blamed it on having a "fat face" but I've been doing myself dirty this whole time! xD
I have a very 'harsh' face, because I have very high cheekbones. if I contour too much I look like skeletor and people will ask if I'm sick. You really have to highlight your good features by doing makeup for YOUR face...when I finally learned my best angles (which parts to highlight/which parts to contour into the abyss), I started looking more polished.
u are hands down the most effective and useful make up artist on youtube. So talented and the face analysis are always sooo on point and detailled. You are a gift to all make up lovers !
I love your content. This vid is a perfect example of why. I feel like im learning useful tips, and you actually explain how these different techniques affect the overall look. So down to earth too!
Thank you SO much for this! 🎉 the side by side def helps showcase what/how your explaining different areas. I’m no expert but I’ve never been a fan of how most people “contour” anyhow.
Dude, your skin is insanely gorgous 😂😍 by far the most helpful video on contouring! I love that you discussed face parts vs general shapes- you made all face shapes sound gorgeous and enhancing what you have vs hiding. Loved it!
I have a smaller and more stubby nose so you’re “don’t” side nose contour actually works for me better (since i want to create the illusion of having a wider nose) i hope everyone knows their facial structure and find the right techniques that work for them instead of blindly following tutorials from people who have very different facial structures from them (I use grey ish brow pencil to do my nose contour too btw)
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! I FEEL RIDICULOUS BECAUSE I STILL STRUGGLE WITH CONTOURING. ESPECIALLY THE NOSE. I NEEDED THIS VIDEO. THANK YOU THANK YOU!❤❤❤❤
I love all of your vids because we have the same face shape as well as eyes as well as skin concerns. I don't see that often when it comes to MAUs, most get surgeries to look like other popular MUAs so it's been getting harder to find tutorials that are helpful. I only just now started to consider contouring and lol, I didn't know where or how to start. This was so helpful!
Dude, you are so right for thinking about lines and proportion rather than just general shape, especially when contouring one feature can affect many others.
Your content is incredible--that's not even debatable. I wanted to give you a pat on the back for your delivery. Thank you for not doing that vapid damn finger wiggling under the chin, and no waggling the products back and forth. Your intelligence shines through and makes your videos very enjoyable for an crotchety old coot like myself.
Thank you for this. I was following other contouring patterns without really understanding what I was doing and why. It's so good to get a clear rundown of it.
Thank you SO MUCH, Alexandra!!! I FINALLY figured out how to make my aging face look a little younger and better in photos! The trick with the nose really helped to make it look thinner and not bulge out at the bottom. I do have slight jowls forming, so the contouring technique helps to minimize it! I feel so much more confident in how I look now! You’re the best! ❤❤❤
Love how thorough you are with this! Made 10 mins feel quick because it was such good educational tips about contouring explained so well. Straight to the point and all. Absolutely love you and all your videos so much! ❤
opened youtube in hopes of preventing some tears and was very relieved when your channel popped into my recommended again. how serendipitous- thank you for creating content
I LOVE ALL of your videos girl. You approach makeup so differently from the vast majority of other MUA's because of your background in art and I have always loved how you incorporate that into your tutorials. So, I have a really oblong face and as I am aging and have put on a little weight, the whole lower area of my face from my cheeks down is starting to look wider and almost like it's sagging or something and makes my face almost look like pear shaped, especially since my cheekbones aren't very prominent.. I have absolutely NO idea how to approach contouring this area of my face because it's just not a super common shape and I've never seen anyone else do a video covering that specific shape.. I'm like desperate and would be SOOO GRATEFUL to see you do a video about how you'd contour these issues on someone who has an oblong/pear shaped face and maybe some additional suggestions about like bronzer, blush and highlight placement. Thank you so much for all your hard work creating amazing content for us! Much love always! 💕
I am realizing that you appear dat ass serious in your videos to me. and that is SO refreshing!!! In this fake social media world your toned down videos which appear minimalistic but very informative are SO refreshing. It's not this WAWAWOOM SPARKLE I WANT YOUR ATTENTION EVERYTHING IS GREAT. It's is 'just' a simple video, but a good one. Much appreciation for your tutorials, thx
I never really understood the concept of contour and highlighter until I discovered your channel. You explain it so perfectly. HOWEVER, I need help. I've searched and searched your videos for disguising/minimizing marionette lines, without luck. I understand your videos are probably made for younger women, but we "women of a certain age" love you too! Ple-e-e-ease do a video on marionette lines. Thank you and love you!
I would also love that tutorial! If you can afford it, though, a microcurrent facial is *amazing* for this. I got one for my 40th birthday and it made a huge difference that lasted about two months.
I do not know why your channel was recommended to me. I don't even wear make up any more, it's been at least 5 years. I love your demeanor and how articulate you are.
@AlexandraAnele hands down you have the best makeup tutorials! Let me not forget to mention that your skin ALWAYS looks so flawless!! This was such a great advice. I’d love to know what brushes you used for this video?! If you would kindly let me know, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks as always for your amazingly informative content.
You know what can be a good video series idea, asking your subscribers (the ones who want to) to send pictures of their faces with their questions, be it contouring, eye shadow for even more specific eye shapes, etc (I'm not good with specific makeup terms 😅) and you answering that in a video! People can send it pictures of their multiple profiles for your ease, closeups of their eye shapes! Idk, I'm just throwing this idea out! 😅 P.S - if you do decide to do this series, I guess it will be easier if subscribers can submit images and their questions through a Google form, I volunteer as the first subject for this video if this comes into fruition!❤️😂
i actually have quite uneven cheekbones so i actually utilize both contour techniques on my face depending on which cheekbone i want to bring up higher vs which i want to push a little lower. i also think that chin line shading works well for those who already have little buccal fat bc otherwise, it really doesnt look good on 90% of female face shapes :'')
Wow…this is the best and most informative video I’ve seen on contouring. Thank you so much! I’ve always been kind of intimated by contouring tbh..but what I’ve learned from your video makes me feel more confident to give it a try!
Recently I have realized that perfecting makeup (and just making makeup) can bring the joy. Your videos not only let me realize what to avoid but also what (more less for now) to look for. I shall relay on looks i find indpspireing to a degree, and see what may work for me. See my face See face I would like to sculpture Find where can I do it Make attempts to do it Repeat Thank you.
You simply ROCK!! I've said it before, your kind and helpful ways of teaching us is just perfection!! You've helped me amp up my makeup game SO much!!! Thank you very much for all of your fantastic content!! Blessings to you, Alex!! ✌️💚🙏
Wow, I really love the jaw/chin Contour trick. I've never seen it done like that before and I think it's an amazing technique. Way better than the usual way.
Wow! I have a similar shape face and I do nearly ALL of the “don’ts” when I contour. I’ve become so self conscious, thinking that even makeup makes me feel not my best. Thanks so much! I can’t wait to try this.
It's really help me understand a lot, I've been trying to learn contour but it always make me look old in the end and I'm not happy about it, now i know what i have to do and don't base on my face, thanks
Thaaankkk youuu!!!! Contouring is so difficult for me and to be honest I gave up trying lol! 😅🙃 but this was really helpful. So I'll definetely try again. Thanks again!!
I was doing the nose thing all wrong, thank you! I was purely copying some non professional videos I’ve seen bc I didn’t feel like I had the time to do the research when I know I need to focus on my job search. I appreciate your videos because not only do you have valuable content that I can only find from someone who is an expert in their field, and I especially appreciate your verbiage and technical terms because I can’t sit through videos where women use baby talk
omg, i've been needing a contour stick that was less orange-y! I have to buy this!! Thank you for this vid.. I swear I do all of my contour on the "don't" side!
Finally a bumped nose lady with a contouring I can relate to 😂 loved the video, an also love the fact that u don’t drag things and just go directly to the subject.
OMG OMG OMG 😱 It is Enlightement!!! Thank you so much for this video!❤ When you did right side of your face (less flattering as you said) I immediately saw my own. It is exactly what my face looks like after I'm done with contouring. I hope it will work for me.
The difference between the techniques are amazing and you explain so well. If you have any techniques for eye makeup for someone with horrible laugh lines it would be greatly appreciated.
Even though we almost have completely opposite face structure(i have a long ovalish diamond face shape with a long jaw and chin), i still find it really helpful. You show that “less is more” and that contouring is not just as simple as outlining your face. I think whats important for people to know is that experimenting is going to be one of the best things you can do to find the perfect contour routine, because everybody has slightly different faces and wants slightly different end results.
u gotta be favourite mua on yt
no wasting time, no bullshit for views, no hidden ads and always posting exactly what everyone is looking for
ur tutorials are always so easy to understand and beginner friendly, i love that so much
Totally agree
So true!
She’s def a goat for this format
Agree!
I'm so glad I found her channel 😭😭

Even tho you’re clearly younger than I am this single video taught me more in 10 minutes than I’d learned in decades.
Thank you.
Me too! Plus I have the same little fat pad under my chin. My daughter inherited it too!
Me too and I’m 49! NOW I understand it…

I read the title and said out loud “she’s about to tell me I’m doin it wrong…” 💀😂😂
Hehe
Same
Me too 😭
😂
😅😂😂 same

True. Her face is very round. This definitely wouldn’t work on me.

that is so cool like using your skills on a different medium!

Same! Using the same technique on the face as in a painting works wonders. I wish my Prismacolors could double as makeup 😂
This is the best contour tutorial I've ever seen. You are truly one talented artist!
I’m still a beginner at age 61 so I really appreciate you explaining WHY we’re contouring in each area- thank you!
Also, your mouth and teeth are mesmerizing as you speak 👄
I loved how you turned your head for the first contour trick...it visually explained the where & why!
Probably the best contour tutorial and EXPLANATION. Also, thanks for explaining it like a normal person and not condescending ❤❤❤
Shocked at how different the sides are!
Love your new jawline placement, I feel like this might work well for me too!
Kinda insane how the “bad” side is really common placement, but it totally gives jowls and the jawline shadow created a double chin that didn’t exist before ….wild!

How you’re describing the shaping gave me a lightbulb! “Push it back in space.” Oooooh!!! 🤩
u are hands down the most effective and useful make up artist on youtube. So talented and the face analysis are always sooo on point and detailled. You are a gift to all make up lovers !
I am a 45 year old woman trying to teach myself how to do my makeup. The side by side was AMAZING!!! Thanks for this great video!
This was a great reminder of not following trends and to go back to basics of highlight/shadows. Thank you!
I love your content. This vid is a perfect example of why. I feel like im learning useful tips, and you actually explain how these different techniques affect the overall look. So down to earth too!
Nobody ever explains why what I'm doing is wrong. This was SOOO helpful for me thank you ❤
I don't even contour - but I find your videos, and frankly your whole person, very relaxing and comforting
I'm a mascara and lipgloss kind of girl but I love these videos
Wow, the contrast between the two approaches is stark. Thanks for taking the time to show us!
Thank you SO much for this! 🎉 the side by side def helps showcase what/how your explaining different areas. I’m no expert but I’ve never been a fan of how most people “contour” anyhow.
I did my best friend's make up on her wedding using some of your tips! thank you for all the work you are doing ❤️
My favorite makeup artist gosh she’s good and goes straight to the point
Love the side by sides…You are a teacher. Short, to the point, no fluff. Ty Alexandra, new subbie. Your contents are breathtaking. Ty.
Dude, your skin is insanely gorgous 😂😍 by far the most helpful video on contouring! I love that you discussed face parts vs general shapes- you made all face shapes sound gorgeous and enhancing what you have vs hiding. Loved it!
I’ve been ALL about proper contour AND bronzer these days. Keep ‘em coming! 👍🏻👌
I love this! The important point is that you contour what you want to minimize or push back into the background. That will vary face to face
I have a smaller and more stubby nose so you’re “don’t” side nose contour actually works for me better (since i want to create the illusion of having a wider nose)
i hope everyone knows their facial structure and find the right techniques that work for them instead of blindly following tutorials from people who have very different facial structures from them

So helpful and I love how you walked us through why and what each contour line does. Thank you!
Love these side by sides!!
Let’s face it we’re visual-and the effects are so obvious this way.
Thanks, love your videos and candor😊
Dude, you are so right for thinking about lines and proportion rather than just general shape, especially when contouring one feature can affect many others.
Your content is incredible--that's not even debatable. I wanted to give you a pat on the back for your delivery. Thank you for not doing that vapid damn finger wiggling under the chin, and no waggling the products back and forth. Your intelligence shines through and makes your videos very enjoyable for an crotchety old coot like myself.
Who knew such subtleties could have such a dramatic effect😱 you are gorgeous even without makeup😊

Your awesome. Makes so much sense. Thank you for teaching us and not just reviewing products. Sooo refreshing!!
Wow! The side by side show and tell is really effective! ❤️
Please look up oblong contouring on UA-cam. ☺️
Thank you for showing the blending process! So many videos show the countouring process, then just cut to it being already blended.
I love your to the point, knowledgeable tutorials. Keep them coming please, I literally just changed my routine!
Super helpful! I love how you explained the purpose of shadow and how darkening one are can make an adjacent area look more prominent. Thanks!
P.S - if you do decide to do this series, I guess it will be easier if subscribers can submit images and their questions through a Google form, I volunteer as the first subject for this video if this comes into fruition!❤️😂
This is far and away the best contour video I've seen so far. Many thanks!
Love these tips!! And great to see the difference side by side!
i actually have quite uneven cheekbones so i actually utilize both contour techniques on my face depending on which cheekbone i want to bring up higher vs which i want to push a little lower. i also think that chin line shading works well for those who already have little buccal fat bc otherwise, it really doesnt look good on 90% of female face shapes :'')
I do the same thing! My nose is a little crooked, so I touch it up with contour lol
It is wise to use contour per feature and per side of face … we ALL have a fuller side, differently angled side etc
You’re describing my wonky face! 😅 I’ll be doing this from now on.
omg, no filter and i can see your skin and texture. LOVE
Nice! I am a septigenerian but love the subtle youthful look you created and I learned a lot! I think the biggest mistake people make is overdoing it
It’s amazing how such small details can make such difference - that’s what you taught me.
Thaaaaaaank you for posting this and sharing the link to the brush 🫶🏼 choosing brushes is so hard for me.
See my face
See face I would like to sculpture
Find where can I do it
Make attempts to do it
Repeat
Thank you.
Thanks for sharing great tips!❤👏🏻💄
You simply ROCK!! I've said it before, your kind and helpful ways of teaching us is just perfection!! You've helped me amp up my makeup game SO much!!! Thank you very much for all of your fantastic content!! Blessings to you, Alex!! ✌️💚🙏
Wow. What a big difference between the two sides. Great demo!
Hey did you use these tips now ?
Thank you! Always wished I had a sister or mother who could teach me how to use makeup. You're the next best thing.
Thank you for the informative and helpful video! No one does this like you and no one really does this anymore!!
I'm subscribing. Im learning how to contour and the very general "what this does" is very helpful. Thank you!
As a newbie who has never contoured anything, this was super helpful. Thanks!
This will sound crazy but I just started contouring thanks to your videos and I'M LOVING IT. I just enjoy makeup more now. This is very helpful
It's really help me understand a lot, I've been trying to learn contour but it always make me look old in the end and I'm not happy about it, now i know what i have to do and don't base on my face, thanks
6:13 what are you even talking about? You are stunning too. One of the reasons I watch your videos. Your skin is perfect!
thank u, you salved my life whit that makeup tutorial
Thaaankkk youuu!!!! Contouring is so difficult for me and to be honest I gave up trying lol! 😅🙃 but this was really helpful. So I'll definetely try again. Thanks again!!
I always learn something with every one of your tutorials. Thank You!
Love that we can always count on you for knowledge and instruction!!!!!
omg, i've been needing a contour stick that was less orange-y! I have to buy this!! Thank you for this vid.. I swear I do all of my contour on the "don't" side!
Wow so interesting! I also loved the face shape tip at the beginning, thanks Alexandra! :)
Best contour vid tips and best cruelty free contour stick for light skin tones I’ve seen thanks to your vid.
I actually ended up with the mini westmen atelier in biscuit and I’m happy with it.
I need your sin care routine because your skin is flawless!!!
I like her voice, so chill
Great lighting!
Yeah, side-by-side comparisons really shows the difference. 👏 Thank you! 🥰
That was a terrific tutorial. The side by side really emphasizes how wrong things can go. Thank you.
Finally a bumped nose lady with a contouring I can relate to 😂 loved the video, an also love the fact that u don’t drag things and just go directly to the subject.
Glad I found you. I dont do make-up yet but this all made perfect sense. And very well broken down. Thank you !!
Every time I catch your contour content my makeup skills level up. Thank you!
whoa! i do all the don't! glad i seen this! havent seen a makeup video in years!
I learned so much right now...I need new brushes. Thank you so much for this.
Lovely , you are just stunning no matter what, really! I needed this video! Now I want to go play with my makeup!
Dude, best contour explanation I’ve seen yet!!! Thanks
“Stunning women” girl, you are gorgeous!! 😭🤌🏻🙌🏻🤩
you keep saying perfect people and to me you're naturally beautiful and you have nice skin. Like you are one of those beautiful people.
Yes, I'm like you and have more of a oblong face.
You, my dear, are amazingly talented 🥰 and the fact that you are an artist helps with all the helpful details. Thank you for this!
Yes , that really was good to see how much of a difference it makes.
