The Nineties. Where whenever you see a pool table in a movie, you know a fight is about to break out.
I've been recommending this movie for years and every one thought I'm crazy that a movie like that ever existed.
"Better to be dead and cool, than alive and uncool!" - Love this film, one of the few that doesn't portray bikers as the bad guys. You should also check out 'Running Cool' with Andrew Divoff :)
@Taylor Lemoine You're not wrong. William Forsythe' performance as Ice Hesley was superb, well they all were. It's a shame that Stone Cold didn't lead on to bigger things for the Boz, for a football player, he did a damn fine job and could have easily seen him as a mid budget action star. That fingers in the bike spokes scene still makes me wince! Another good one to check out if you haven't seen it is 'Fixing the Shadow' (aka Beyond the Law) with Charlie Sheen as an undercover cop infiltrating bike clubs.
Taylor Lemoine facts, my man. Bod worth was a SOLID leading man. Shame he didn’t go farther.
Running cool is a great biker movie
This is one of my favorite movies all time!
You forgot Don Johnson's character in Django unchained.
That role is a fkn classic.
haha yah, especially the raid scene arguing about their hoods...that movie had so many good scenes (over the top sure, but fun to watch).
and the sheriff/marshall scene....Waltz is such an interesting actor with where he takes his characters..
I thought about Django as well, but his role, while memorable, was much more limited than the others that were mentioned.
@@stuartbagley2586 I get it.
If you want to see one ofDon Johnson's first acting gigs.
Check out the TV series Kung Fu starring David Carradine had an episode that aired in November of 1973 called "The Spirit Helper".
It's a classic.👍😎
David Pineda Wow. Kung Fu. I remember watching Kung Fu on Sunday nights. I collected the trading cards too. For some reason, the blind master guy freaked me out as a kid. Didn’t realize DJ was on there. Cool stuff.
Its hilarious when he says, "Well, shit far!"
I remember as a kid wondering why Don Johnson didn't become the biggest star in Hollywood, he was the coolest dude on TV in the mid 80s and had the looks of a leading man , I assume that's why, being a TV star didn't translate to box office success.
I watched this movie a hundred times in the 90s and still love it .
One of the greatest buddy movies.Watched it many times.
Same here working on a prop replica of Harley’s ruger super Blackhawk 454
I love it have the DVD
Exactly..no super hero abilities..no illusions of immortality.. just 2 buddies trying to make it in life and not always getting along.
Jesus, Rourke really butchered his face with the plastic surgery. He was a really good looking guy back in the day.
@Anthony Clark No idea. But I do know that Hollywood is extremely superficial, and has a way of getting into your head. Back when I still worked there, I was told to "lose the beer gut" even though I only weighed 104. I still hate my body to this day, and if I could afford it, I'm embarrassed to say I'd probably opt for a tummy tuck. You feel compelled to be younger, thinner, prettier, CONSTANTLY. I'm not surprised Rourke felt the need to go under the knife. I fucking hate Hollywood. I truly do.
@MizerisMoney The reason it looks worse now is because his nose never healed properly and developed a ton of scar tissue. Apparently they had to take cartilage from his ear to rebuild his nose. Poor guy. 😕
It started when James Toney shattered one of his cheekbones in a sparring session. He got cheek implants which were obvious to correct that. Had he stopped there, it would have been fine, but he got a terrible face lift before he did the sequel to 9 1/2 weeks because he was trying to recapture a spot as a leading man. Since then he's tried to correct things and clearly, nothing helped.
@The Curious Mind That's so, so sad 😕
Yeah, was thinking that too...Honestly Rourke and Meg Ryan ruined their faces. Makes you wonder how messed up in the head you have to be that, as an actor, you do that kind of things to your face.
Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man is my all time favorite film. Thank you for covering this movie and showing it in a more positive light.
Don Johnson definitely made this movie. With cool, laid back badass persona.
By this time it was already over for him, just like Mickey Rourke because neither of them made the right movie choices to capitalize on their success. It's a shame because both were so cool in the 80s in different ways.
BigBadJerry Rogers yeah I agree the 80s was more his time. But on the other hand, he’s still one of the coolest actors on screen. Check him out in Knives Out, he’s still got it.
Dammit this movie got me buying Marlboro Classics apparel, shirt, jeans, jacket, boots and all back in the 90s.
@@BigBadJerryRogers uh hello? Nash Bridges?
Mickey Rourke's comeback was in Sin City. Js
This movie defies categorization. It’s on my Midnight Movie “Shelf of Honor.”
I met the writer of the movie Don Michael Paul at a screening many years after it came out. Nice guy, was happy to talk to everybody. He said it was just supposed to be a fun buddy action movie, nothing deep. That's what we got.
I remember seeing this movie for the first time in 91 at a drivein. I loved it and was greatly inspired by Mickey's motorcycle in film.. It was his personal custom built bike called Black Death.
One of my favourites as a kid. That scene where the girl dances on top of the motorcycle never gets old.
As a cinephile I really appreciate this series and used to wonder why there wasn't one like it. Cheers man!
I honestly had never heard about this movie before until I went into a movie store and saw the case. My fiance pointed it out, at the time we were on a huge western/neo-western and 80's movie kick and it seemed perfect. It is absolutely a favorite.
Mickey rourke man he was beautiful
I love this flick. Classic in my eyes for sure. "As my old man used to say...before he left this shity world.."
skunkwrxs 😃👍
Watched this at a friend's. I'm amazed how much it reminded me of BUTCH CASSIDY AND THE SUNDANCE KID. It's like a modernized retelling.
ToylandChairman666 I always assumed it was based off of butch cassidy and the Sundance kid. Harley fights the big gang member near the beginning, they both jump off a high ledge, sure they end different, but it’s too close to be a coincidence
This was a cheesy movie, but it was still a fun movie, remember renting it on VHS as a kid
seriously whoever has never seen this is below the age of 35. This movie was on tv all the time when I was a kid. It has one of the Baldwin brothers in it.
I grew up watching this on the Navajo reservation!! This is a fun neo Western action film!
I am only 16 years old but my dad had bought this movie for me at the age of 4 and I could never EVER stop watching this movie it has always been my favorite movie for my entire life
My favorite part at the beginning was the gas station charging $4/gallon. A cheap but effective reminder that this was in the future because that much for gas in 1991 was implausible.
I think this movie also predicts Donald Trump's presidency...which seemed far fetched at the time
This is one of my all time favourite movies ever ! In my top 5 for sure .. I watched it as a kid & just finished watching it before I clicked on this video , one I’ve watched 100 times & will continue to do so until I’m dead and gone . It’s a classic ! And the fellas are very easy on the eyes too ! Had a huuuuuge crush on Mickey Rourke because of this movie lol no shame 💁🏻♀️
Dead Bang is quite a good movie as well. Don Johnson is such a cool guy. Always been a fan.
@Anthony Clark I was lucky to find a DVD of it twenty years ago. I don't think it is even on Blu Ray. I wish it was.
one of my favorite movies. my favorite line its better to be dead and cool, then alive and uncool. I saw it at the movie theater in 1991 it was a great time. Great soundtrack too. Even Gene Siskel from siskel and ebert liked this movie.
I saw it in the theater in my freshman year of high school, it was such fun. Mickey Rourke was just what I needed as a depressed loner kid and I had to have a bike as soon as possible after this.
My dad took me to see this in the theater. I have always been hugely into motorcycles, Harleys in particular, so this was pretty massive in my life.
suggestion for such movies
- The Getaway (1994) Alec Baldwin and the incredible hot Kim Bassinger
- The Chase (1994) (Charlie Sheen, Kristy Swanson , Henry Rollins and a red BMW E36 coupe)
- Deadly Encounter (1982) Larry Hagman in best helicopter action movie
“Kick it over to me Pele’” 😂😂 yes those are all good ones man .
Great sex scenes în The Getaway by Alec and Kim. ❤️🤘🥃
@ they were a couple in real life too at that time so explains it why it's convincing on screen
@@cartoonfan959 I know but still... To do an erotic scene with your wife...
What do you think about Escape from New York and Kurt Russell?
@ escape from new york is not realy overllooked like theo nes mentioned
I'm 35 years old as of 2023 so I was a little child when this movie was made very little but what I'm saying is I grew up watching this movie and this is the one of the best movies of all time! It's time to make things right!
I watched this movie on acid about 20 years ago - loved it ever since.
This movie lost so much money at the box office but used to be on TV a lot when I was a kid and loved it
Given it’s tv popularity I wonder if it eventually broke even?
Man I love this movie. Seen it so many times. Thanks Joblo. You guys rock👍
It's a classic at my house.
When I first watched this movie back in February 1992 for its initial VHS📼 release,i knew then it would immediately be a instant classic🎥🎞️.
Still waiting for WTF Happened to Mickey Rourke!
Yess
I watched this several times on late night antenna tv back in the day.
The intro at the beggining is too cool Mickey Rourke riding his bike and the song from Bon jovi Wanted dead or Alive
"I can fix the bike not the b Tch" is one of my favorite lines. LOL. Doesn't help me and my now long time ex wife were constantly arguing back then.
Haha this was one of the first "grown up-movie" i ever saw as a child by myself and one of like 4 vhs´s in our home so rewatched it every time i was home alone sick or whatever
lay off my boots Harley.
Gold.
My #1 favorite film, love it, got that classic jacket as well, great cast.
Even Big John Stud R.I.P.
This was my birth dad’s favourite movie so much he named me after it
When my ex-wife and I where kids we would go to the movies just about every night . One night we were lucky enough to watch this futuristic action movie. That was a fun night.
This has to be one of the last movies where Mickey Rourke actually looks like Mickey Rourke
I live my whole life based on Harley Davidson and the marbolo man.
Marbolo. lol
0:43 In 90's movies it was MANDATORY that the Bad Guys wore overcoats down to their ankles. It looked ridiculous but that's what all the Bad Guys wore.
this was one of my moms favorite movies and i have loved it since i was a kid in the 90's, definitely the best movie i can think of that most people i know havent seen...
Watched this multiple times, but its been a long time. Taped it off a cracked movie channel so I could rewatch it from a blank tape. Have you ever did a video on Dead Heat from that era with Treat Williams. That was a fun gem
You forgot the SHORTEST sawed-off double-barreled shotgun ever seen on screen. IF you can see the ends of the shells protruding from the barrels, you might have cut them a bit too short.
this movie is the kind of action i like , fun and non stop
This movie along with Hudson Hawk, Showdown in Little Tokyo and The Rookie starring Clint Eastwood and Charlie Sheen were some of the weird hidden action gems from the 90s.
MAN this looks right up my ally, will def have to smoke one and watch this after homework
I watched this when I was a kid. Thought it was amazing. I still recommend it to friends.
The fact that this move has advertising for Die Hard 10 in the background on a billboard shows how well they understood the dystopian future we now live in.
I saw that film, in Sturgis, SD, when they released it. HD had a screening, great movie
Such a underated film...
Never saw? I wore the vhs out when I was a teenager. It was definitely a go to movie for my friends and I.
One of my favourites.
I actually love this movie. A must have in any collection. I had a double feature tape with this and Terminator 2 . I miss those days of rewinding. Watching a movie at home was an event.
I did love this movie as a kid. surprised it fell off the radar so hard.
This was an awesome movie in it's time....happy you did this one.
Nowadays there are no such excessive, crazy, wild and goofy films like this nor such tough heroes like Don Johnson and Mickey Rourke.
You can't understand the 90s without the presence of this flick that look like a Dark Horse comic
One of my favorites growing up
4:13, they should be icons.
It's definitely a B movie classic! Don't forget the late wrestler Big John Studd had a significant role in this movie
It is a fun movie for 2 reasons: Mickey Rourke & Don Johnson who are both gorgeous & a great team. The opening sequence with Rourke riding his Harley as Bon Jovi’s “Dead or Alive” plays in the background is worth watching as are the next scenes with Rourke nonchalantly walking into a convenience store where an armed robbery is taking place & then Johnson’s pool scene where his attempt to hustle the locals doesn’t go as planned. I never picked up on the fact that this was a “futuristic” movie until I watched it again recently. The movie was shot in ‘90 but the setting was 1996. This movie may not have been worthy of an Academy Award but it is still entertaining & really has become more fun/enjoyable with time.
This movie is one of my guilty pleasures. Its not that great, but great at the same time.
Don Johnson in fast and furious would be Epic!!!
MAN, you come up with some good old school stuff🤗
Don Johnson wildin a Desert Eagle like a complete badass made this movie already awesome for me
First time I think any of us ever SAW a DE in a movie.
Jon Ericson yeah man, i saw it as a Kid and i love this pistol since then, even bought myself one
00:40, jeez, that's what Rourke used to look like.
Is it just me, or is the audio distorting ?
it's la corona, homie
Saw this around 1994. You are right excellent movie, can’t find it anywhere
Every single movie in this category I have seen, every single one, in fact, I think I actually own every movie in this category. Thst being said, great movie, lots of fun, highly recommend it with a bunch of buddies.
I love this movie. For sure one of my favorite early life movies. I think I was 10 when I saw it, and I loved it. It's so over the top and cheesy... I still love it to this day. I tracked down the DVD and I watch it on an old CRT... takes me back.
I only seen this once, but when I did...I liked it, I didn't understand the harsh reviews.
I have it on DVD it's a great movie.
Respect I used to watch this movie all the time Don Johnson Mickey Rourke buff said
I just finished to watch this movie. It was maybe the 35th time I have watched. I don't know but I always enjoy very much💓
I used to watch this movie all of the time!!
Big John Studd was my favorite part.
As a wrestling fan it was great to have him in there. A great part for him and I wish he had done more action movies.
Great movie one of my favorites
well ain't those two just dolls. with mickey being so honest, one can always tell if he gets along with his partner or not. and if he does, it just makes the movie, even if the director doesn't.
One of my top 5s ! No question.
i was 11 or 12 and loved this flick
I watched it so many times and I always forget what it's about. Time to watch it again.
i remember this movie like a turning point, where mickey rourke started to show up in movies with his face looking like he suffered mild chemical burns.
I loved this movie as a teenager and the first time I rode from southern Georgia to Chicago, I couldn’t help but play Bon Jovi during that run.
Yes. Thank you Joblo
I ALWAYS LOVED this flick!
Agreed that “The Hot Spot” is severely underrated. I’d love to see you do a review on that movie!
I loved this movie when I was 13....watched all these amazing American movies ....
“Better to be dead and cool, than alive and uncool “
Lol that’s horrible advice. But it’s still pretty awesome. I saw this when I was a about 11 and I loved it . I always have loved it. I know it’s a bad movie but DJ and Rouke and just so cool in this . Too bad it couldn’t had a better writer and Director. The movie however captures the time period nicely . Still one of the coolest openings in a movie I’ve ever seen .
Tia Carrere, Kelly Hu and Vanessa Williams! Dang, that casting director is my spirit animal.
Stormone Too right! Chelsea Field wasn’t a bad looking gal either ... 😃
Mickey rourke The coolest guy in the industry 😎
I found this movie in 2008 and loved it
My dad introduced me to this film when I was 12 great film might ask him if I can borrow it to rewatch it
I love this movie, so much so that after I finish a couple other vehicles related projects I plan on building a Black Death replica
Great movie . I was 12 when I first saw this .
