you can use the bottom of a statue for the canopy frame, although its not as thin as trails, it is thinner than half cylinder 2x2's. it should look a lot better
Theres two downsides of plane crazy. You want accurate size builds with realistic body and shape but you cant have too many mechanical parts or if you want realistic moving and fuctional parts you meed to have unrealistic size to fit the mechanic in. Theres no in between those
