So the animation obviously wasn’t the best. However it does seem like the studio focussed a lot of their effort on the U20 match. This is what isagis voice actor said in an interview- “When we first started recording for the second season, we were told by the original creators that they had put everything into drawing the U-20 match.”
Although most of the episode seems to be still images you can still see they're trying their best with what they have. The frames look really clean, they have nice effects, they're trying to make them feel dynamic and they added nice transitions. If the quality of the images remain the same i'll remain very excited for the big match

I think most of it stems from the fact that the manga panels are always so dynamic. So when the animation thats supposed to bring motion feels less dynamic than a still page, it leaves a bad impression.

You can litterly feel the tension through the drawings. I feel the animation effect was a bit lacking in this episode, but I’m happy it got animated anyway! Enjoyable and the colouring and their visuals in the anime is really good

Ys the skills were good apart from the animation of the top 4 , my favourite was the chigiri's play with ninja dude, whooping the cross karasu was also good. But now isagi's about be in the action so let him cook 🔥 The problem for isagi is the physique and his individual skills are not good intersting that the creator pick him as the mc,his character remind of an Italian player and bruh nailed the character inspiration for sidiou its zalthan. He is bit crazy too
I think the animation complains is mostly from manga reader expectations because blue lock is the most sold manga in the world or it was at least for awhile theres alot more manga readers going into season 2 then anime onlys and we want to see what we love brought to life not just colored versions of what we have seen with voice acting. Its definitely a lack of animation rather then bad animation because the art is great its just we want to be more dynamic

And yeah, some scenes could've been better if they were animated instead of CGI or stills. But frames like Shidou's goal, like come on. There's no way in hell they could've animated that and made it look good; it would've looked worse animated. Plus that still with the aura effect and the music syncing up was epico. Stuff like Otoya running through, or Isagi receiving the ball being just moving images or stills was a slight letdown ngl, BUT I still think the show looks good overall. Adding to that the statement about a lot of the budget going into the U20 match, and I think that there's wayyy too much hate for this season. Edit: also Isagi's monologue 😂they need the still frames for that as well XD
The animation is similar to S1, but I think because the artwork/graphics in S2 is obviously better it's easier to notice that the animation itself isn't the best. It calls to your attention just how little movement is actually animated, if that makes sense. In my opinion it still looks good overall cause of the art, but hoping that they will improve the animation when it comes to the actual U20 match
Completely agree with Angelo. The animation is very similar to s1 and yeah it's not much animation. They obviously can animate but they be selecting matches to do that in. People always complaining about animation in lot of shows and rarely is it so bad that it takes you out.
