I’m in the process of becoming Catholic. I am also a gay man. This is really the one subject that has never made any sense to me. And not because it applies to me.
The arguments against consensual, loving, committed same-sex relationships just don’t hold up. Jesus said that we shall know them by their fruits in regards to theological teaching. Studies have shown that denying your sexuality and participating in conversion therapy leads to increased depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts. Those are obviously bad fruits from a bad theological tree.
I will be the first one to stand with the Catholic Church to call out promiscuity. But there is a clear distinction between promiscuity and a loving, committed relationship.
It seems that the church has put these standards of living that are just impossible to uphold. Priests are required to take a vow of celibacy. But a recent study shows that most priests break that vow. And a decent proportion break it many times (both heterosexual and homosexual priests).
I am falling more and more in love with Catholicism and it’s core values. But I also pray for discernment. It’s healthy to wrestle with these things. I think blindly following along is quite dangerous and detrimental to one’s being and faith. To wrestle and question oftentimes leads to a deeper faith.
I'm a hetersosexual Catholic and in the Final analysis, who know's who will be truly right! I have been pretty promiscuous in my heterosexual life and I am patently sure I have no right to tell someone homosexuality is wrong. At the end of the day we are all children of God with propensity toward things that are harmful to us. Maybe homosexuality is, but I always like to argue against homophobic Catholics like "hey, I'm heterosexual and I'm struggled with porn, multiple partners, hook-up culture in my 20's, etc.... "So I always make the point that it's weird to hyper-focus on homosexuality when there is so much heterosexual impropriety. Either way I think sexuality can become disordered, I believe that we should just focus on our own sexual lives and not worry about other peoples. Prayers for us both. We're in the same boat, heteros and homos

Please, many former gay people are very happy being straight. They have found a wonderful partner of the opposite sex and have great success at resisting acting out as a result of any temptation to engage in homosexual life or homosexual sexual behavior.
I've seen it happen many times because the person desired the change and was committed to this transformation for themselves in their lives. No depression, happiness and joy! They were depressed as homosexuals.
But, because you do not truly desire this change in yourself -- you seek out and find those who are depressed because they, too, have no genuine desire to change their lifestyle or habits.
I've never known even one homosexual man who did not--at some point in our friendship--attempt to demand sex from me as a "friend". Well, that is part of the casual lifestyle of friendship and sex which goes along with homosexuality. I found it horrifying, shocking and inappropriate. Not funny at all. So do not tell me that a homosexual man does not desire women. Because they do when they want to-- and can be viscious about it. I never gave in. No, thanks.
@@Jmeez69 in the preach, Fr said being homo is not a sin, the act of it is a sin. Jyst like you being heter is not a sin, using contraception, adultery, etc is a sin. Don't swap 2 ideas.
I want to say this gently and with love, we all have urges, desires, and feelings. As Fr says it it not wrong to be a homosexual. Homosexuals must remain celibate just as heterosexuals must remain celibate in the same situation.

Sex is about procreation...where animals are concerned. Where humans are concerned it is about much more. Intimacy and bonding are essential to having an healthy psyche. Funny how the people who tell us we are "made in the image of God" are always trying to reduce us to the same level as animals.
I think if you listen again you will catch the part Fr said sex is not only about reproduction and Church don't believe that either. Fr talked about how we stay await from lust which sex plays a part of it. Enjoying sexual life with your husband/wife is not a sin.
The Bible clearly states that you should NOT forbid anyone to marry, including priests.
@Steve Bingham: Christ said: "I came that you may have life, and have it more abundantly". How did that work out? Telling people they are basically evil and most will end up in Hell is counter-productive and counter-intuitive - and self-realizing. And that's how it worked out.

The problem is that all people hear (including many priests) is: no chocolate cake and no red wine. My point is proven by the comments (those that are relevant).
This priest has no problem excluding gays from both love and joy.....may he he receive back what he gives out to gays. Gays lives matter. The priest needs to read Romans 2.1 and let's see if he preaches to his straight following about that!

@@3leon306 perhaps I was unclear. For that I apologise. I was challenging the teleological basis for your religious conclusion. Valid moral conclusions can be drawn from observable function, but not from conjecture about purpose. We can validly discuss the function of our sense of taste. We are able to do that because we can gather empirical data. We do not have the capacity to validally discuss the intention or purpose of our sense of taste. The reason for that is that we cannot collect empirical data about purpose. Thus, no moral conclusion can be drawn based on our conjecture about the purpose of our sense of taste.

@@dan69052 Of course homosexuality is biological. But even if it was a choice, if it is between two consenting adults and doesn't hurt anyone else it would still be okay. The catholic church (and all religions) are sophisticated cults designed to prey on weak minded individuals. Amazing a church that protects the most evil of people, pedophiles, has a problem with two people of the same sex loving each other. I have gay friends and I trust them with my children without hesitation. I wouldn't allow my children around a priest.

God doesn’t bargain with sin. Read the Bible story of Sodom and Gomorra. Leviticus 20:13 clearly explains God speaking on homosexuality.
It seems to me a lot of gay men become priests . If you have a zero desire to be with a woman as a man, that’s quite telling. Some will say, well, they do have a drive for women but have given it over to Christ . No doubt that is true in many cases, but in a good number of other cases, it’s not so. Hence, the church shouldn’t act as if they have no knowledge about “ same sex attraction” in the sense that education is needed.

I read in a section of One Man, One Woman same-sex attraction is primarily formed by the family someone grows up in and the availability and protectiveness of the child's guardians.

Father, can you start a homosexual ministry? Sure thing, Bishop. Put announcements on bulletins, etc. about the ministry meeting. Comes the attendees. Father reads from the catechism concerning gays, and explains the traditional - church teaching on homosexuality. That’s it for about an hour meeting. Nothing else. No gay mass. Nothing more. See how that flies with the bishop.

Stop lecturing people about homosexuality and do something about priests abusing children.
statistically speaking abuse is higher among teachers and family members. Either way does that make all teachers bad? No it doesn't. Do all teachers loose their authority because of one.? Are all family members bad because one abuses a minor? What about Protestant abuses. Look it up. Their numbers are just as high. Sexual abuse is awful no matter who does it. I know I am a victim. I was abused by a family member. I was also an alter boy and was treated with respect.
i agree with everything you say, but the point is that so-called 'Holy men' are no different to any other section of society, as you would expect them to be if there was any truth to religion and some kind of Holy Spirit was genuinely helping them.
There are good people and there are bad people. Everything can fit in that category. Good cops, bad cops. Etc. There are good priests and there are bad priests just the same. As a Catholic, this abuse scandal is horrific... but I’m glad that this abuse scandal is brought to light because evil deeds need to be brought into the light. The wolves in sheep’s clothing must be revealed. It’s the only way the church will be purified. The devil knows the best way to take down the church is from within.

Why your audio is poor
I don't know about you, but I've always thought that sensuality, love and affection between men was completely natural and normal. Following a recent revelation, I'm absolutely sure that Jesus too was gay - the one that Jesus loved in the garden of Gethsemane and the young man running away naked and all that. The absolute bottom line for my gay and bisexual readers has to be that you have complete freedom of thought and freedom of conscience to make up your own mind on these issues and so don't be led astray by homophobic priests, clergy, ministers, pastors and all the rest of it! Your relationship with God and the Divine is yours alone and so take it and enjoy it and develop it in your own way and leave the religious homophobes to stew in their own juice! They're not spiritual people anyway and they don't want to grow so just walk away with your spirit and your dignity intact and leave them exactly where they are!
Waffle. This is not Christian at all but Aristotlean; we should only use "stuff" for the purpose for which it was created. Actually Aristotle was probably right, but here it presupposes that we know the purpose of sex. How does Fr Check know that sexuality doesn't have other far more significant purposes, and that reproduction is merely a by-product?
