  • After the Summer of Snowden
What's following the exposure of total global surveillance? Discussion with Sarah Harrison and Jacob Appelbaum
While parts of the German public still have difficulties to grasp the scope of the Snowden-leaks since 2013, the other part went back to political business as usual. Moreover, while the interested public is filled with consternation by the ongoing disclosures on the work of U.S. and German secret services, there seems to be a paralization concerning the question of the political consequences. Sarah Harrison and Jacob Appelbaum, activists and supporters of Edward Snowden, talked on strategies and allies in the fight against global surveillance in order to take stock after the Snowden-leaks.

1:00:16 - Jacob tells us to not buy his books -- just pirate them. Oh man that's pretty good.

Where can i learn more about what Applebaum is saying at 16:10 ?
It's funny, because, in 2015, even our prime minister was spouting off about apps like wickr which are "safe" but are closed source.
Wickr's privacy policy says "We only collect information from users who create Wickr Accounts. You must create a Wickr Account to use the Wickr App." It also says "We require a warrant before handing over the contents of communications" to law enforcement agencies.
I call bullshit on Wickr being properly secure. Especially when our very own prime minister has basically been advertising it to anyone who may have information they might want to keep private. Doubly especially when there are laws being passed that extend the communications tapping of private citizens. This includes minimizing the requirements for "reasonable suspicion".
Edit: Correct me if i'm wrong but i'm pretty sure 'reasonable suspicion' has been extended to anyone who is in any network with a known criminal, which would mean criminalisation of citizens before any substantiation other than suspicion has been made.

One percent of the Snowden documents have been released. Apparently Glenn Greenwald is afraid of his safety according to this talk. I say release the rest and
let the chips fall where they may. Glenn should get some journalistic balls. I appreciate what he has done so far, but to quit now is nonsense.
