- This 18-month-old bull was found alone, submerged in a muddy dam with only his trunk raised for breath. Fortunately community members alerted KWS who waded in and hauled the exhausted baby to safety.
Dololo’s health was precarious from the outset - he was in danger of heat exhaustion, had terribly infected eyes and was suffering from parasitic worms.

Established in 1977, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (SWT) operates the world’s most successful orphan elephant rescue and rehabilitation program, rescuing and hand-rearing orphaned elephants and other animals that have lost their mothers, all too often as a result of human activity. But we do much more than this. Through our Aerial, Anti-Poaching and Mobile Veterinary Units, we safeguard the natural environment and provide immediate assistance to wild animals in need. We also secure irreplaceable wilderness areas so that animals will always have space to roam and work with local partners and communities to ensure people and wildlife can live alongside one another.

I just wanted to thank your organization for providing some Amazing hunting in 5-10 years when these cute little babies aren't fundraising material anymore, but are destroying entire ecosystems and everything else in their path. No doubt you will have thrown the balance off and they will be overpopulated just like in the 1970's when 15000 had to be culled because they are so destructive. I bet you dont get many locals donating to your cause? No, ? Just naive white tourists who fly home far removed from the dark side of these hostile beasts who want to assuage and bullshit guilt you put on them when they were on vacation here. Keeps those checks Rollin in. Dosent it. I'll be thinking of your organization when we have such an amazing target rich environment!!!

I have just had the latest news booklet from The Trust, and this precious calf is now an extremely good looking baby bull. He has had to overcome significant health problems, but with good food, medical treatment and much TLC is a happy member of the Nairobi nursery. Go well Dololo 💕🐘💕🐘💕

the job you do is wonderful and it makes so much difference to so many lives.
I just wish the keepers were less anxious at finishing feeding the milk to the calf ellies asap half of it falls out of the elli's mouth as the keepers push the bottle and shake it hoping the Ellies will take it all in one go without pausing nor breathing as I hope you will see what I mean if you were trying to read this with out a pause....difficult hey! You can breath now! :-)

Also would like to see the video on Melania visiting the nursery. That'll definitely gain more funds for this unique orphanage.
Edit: many people are commenting on Melania's hat and lack of interest in elephants and lifting of bans on ivory. The point is her visit may be worthless or a show off or trying to run from her boring husband, but that's her personal problem, not ours. We love DSWT Kenya and when a USA First Lady visits it, chances are that this Trust would get more funds for elephants.
But then again I thank the Trust for not bragging about the visit. Our concern is the elephants, not the "sillybrities" who come here for a photo shoot.

Just saw an update on little Dololo--It turns out 4 years later he is extremely loved by several ex orphans who wait til he has his bottle in Ithumba rehab unit so they can go out on a daily walk with him!! It is beautiful and made me look up his rescue here! So I wanted all who love him to know his loving life as he grows!!😍🥰💝💗💖💞🐘🐘🐘🐘❤💖💞💕

the keeper is wasting so much of the ellies milk. not only does he need all the milk he can get it's also expensive

A lot of milk was just falling in the sand .
A waste of milk
It's not really the keepers' fault. The babies can't swallow fast enough obviously. They don't raise the bottle in a steeper angle because the babies may choke. If you watch the older ones, they don't waste a single drop and the angle is different. Also, the milk on the ground gets drank by others using their trunk.
Why did you not take him back where he was found and perhaps search for his herd?
Why don't you read how is their process so you will get your answer?
Why they wrap blanket around new arrivals?...it makes them more cute if thats possible🐘
Also helps them stay warmer as if by their mama's warm body~💞
