@@Amphibius_ Thanks so much my friend
What do you use to create the sheet music ? I really dig the ability to put space between the grooves and text over.
Hi Stephen, the free sheet music page link isn't working, I cant enter my email
I love what you do Sir. Big up
I've been playing for 20 years and I still found this video helpful. Going back to the basics is never a bad thing!
Satellite Squirrel couldn’t agree more. The basics are where it’s at
Thank you so much for your videos Stephen. I'm a 44 year old lawyer, I've played the piano all my life but always wanted to play the drums. I started drum lessons in June (with my 7 year old son) and bought a full set of acoustic drums on the weekend. I am hooked on your videos - it's just so good to follow your lead and play beats that sounds so damn good! Thanks again.
You bet James...so glad they help man!

Thanks for including the sheet music for these beats, and the Notation Table provided at the top of the sheet!
I grew up playing trumpet/baritone in high school/college, but always wanted to play the drums. That was twenty years ago now, but both my boys ( 4 and 11 yrs old) have shown interest in playing the drums recently. I just picked up a new Roland TD-1DMK set, and these lessons are perfect for getting them started playing simple beats to get them exited to learn more! Thanks so much for your time and effort!
Crazy helpful and super easy to follow. As a trained dancer the counts make perfect sense. Thank you!!
Thank you! Keeps your brain, hands and feed working!
Love it. Thanks so much. I know all these, of course, but a little refresher never hurts!!!
Totally!!! This guy is the best!!! YES Indeed. refreshers are necessary.
Thank you for these amazing teaching videos. I've always wanted to play drums but never had a kit. Today I traded 2 dirtbikes for a ddrum double bass 10 piece drum set with 12 cymbals. I know its way to much drum for a beginner but I couldn't pass it up. Just finished figuring out how to set it up and now I'm on your channel doing what I've dreamed about for years. Learning to play. I've gone over this video 4 times and have many times to go. I can't wait to learn some songs. This is more fun than I ever imagined. Thank you again
Always great useful content, thanks for all you do.
You bet mike
Thank you for posting this!! Just exactly what I need right now.
Exellent video!! With combinations of those 20 grooves you could play in any pop, rock band!! Especially with your 5 basic fills video!!
I feel for these younger, newer drummers exposed to all these crazy gospel chops videos!!
I've never had a band member or engineer ask me to play busier!!
Really enjoying your channel. Just subscribed!!
Last night I decided to become a drummer and I was tapping on a pizza box and a laundry basket with spoons. Today I have a drum set in my house
Great video that demonstrates how mastering the basics of 4/4 and playing simple grooves well opens the door to playing so much music. It's fair to say that each of these 20 drum beats are used in at least another 10 songs. That's 200 songs one could play.
Then if you consider how many grooves are either just slight variations of these grooves and one could play a total of 500 songs possibly,
It's too easy to get caught up in all the sick grooves, cool chops, epic fills, super-human hand speed and somehow still not be able to just play some good music with other people.
thanks for sharing of knowledge. you're a good teacher. i saw you first on DRUMEO giving a tutorial on fills. your videos are very helpful especially for us here in the 3rd world. most of us here can't afford private lessons. thanks again.
Just excellent. Thanks bro.
You are an awesome teacher!!
Excellent!
Thanks for this video. 🙂 something to learn while I’m sheltered in place. 🎵🥁
Clock is my favorite one! Love your videos Stephen!
Hector Guevara thanks hector!
This is amazing! #18 & #19 must be my favourites!
What a great video. Thank you sir
Didn't know country used blast beats.
Most dont. It is more like a rock song rather than a country song.
*instrumentally.
my new ludwig breakbeats kit comes in next week! can’t wait to get back to playing after all these years and start from scratch! gonna be coming back to this videos a lot!!!
I find it really fun as an at least semi-experienced drummer who has begun teaching to look back and see what kind of stuff I used to play when I started about 7 or 8 years ago, nowadays it's all blast beats and shit but its fun to get a blast from the past, but ya never know sometimes i pick something up that I've never seen or done before lol. I love your stuff btw ur a great drummer whos very fun to watch.
hi stephen Im 57, just bought myself a TD50X and bashing arouind on that and having great fun, your vid has helped me a lot mate, much appeciated
So glad to hear it!
I played this on my buckets my dad comes running in and then he he tells me to put them away but I played on the the couch:)
LilahBlue perseverance. I like it 👍🏻
Stephen Taylor 👍🏽
Useful stuff, thanks mate!
You bet my friend
Gonna be practicing these nonstop til I learn something else lol! Thank you! You rock, dude!
Love that popping snare!!!
Thanks!
You're a gem! Thank you! 😘
Gourgandise you bet
Bless this man!!!
Claudio Gomes Sanchez 👊🏻🙏🏼
Awesome video. Thank you!
You bet
I'm a super beginner and this helps me much. Thank you. 😁Love this ecclectic song choices. I wish there is a side lesson for raw beginners for the foot work tips. If you ever create a separate raw beginner lesson, repeating the foot work or hand work more than 1x in the same moment helps. Otherwise we have to scroll to rewind, which is tricky. 👐🥁🎵🎧👐😁👍
Great video! Thanks for this.
You bet!
40yrs old and new drummer very nice thx much
Great video teaches the beats perfectly. :)
Nice pfp
awesome
I love you stephen
Best beats ever
You must have good neighbors👍🙂
Thanks for all that you do man. This has opened my mind to new ideas and a few coordination challenges and shows me where I need work. Awesome videos
Another cool groove to teach beginners is "Footloose' - Kenny Loggins. It's a 4 bar sequence of 4 beginners beats.
Couple other recommendations for simple drum songs for drilling a groove : Lenny Kravitz - american woman / Again / Low / NYC (offbeat hat) / I'll be there, beegees- stayin' alive, and a bonus challenge one for trying e on bass Nathan East - Daft Funk,
“Clocks” and “Vertigo” and “Heart of Glass”...aw yeah!
Julia Ryder 🤓👊🏻

Sienna Tiddy And the other 14?

Derek you the man 👊🏻
'The Cure', 'The Chain Smokers', 'The Tramps', and, 'Santana' were my favorites, though, all of the grooves are Great.
Love your lessons...awesome! Any thoughts of perhaps including a few CCM or gospel grooves? You may be surprised at how many of your subscribers are drummers in church or aspiring church drummers and not necessarily aspiring circuit band drummers. Thanks bro! 🥁
Nate Gill for sure...I have a ton of students with these same goals. I’ll see what I can do
Stryper has all you need. Just copy Robert Sweet's parts and you're all set.
Something nice to hear would be some cross-stick beats. I really dig Montez Coleman's part on "Strasbourg-St. Denis" off Roy Hargrove's _Earfood_ album.
Thank you, Stephen :D Love it ! :D
Hi Stephen, as always your Videos are awesome. I have a questions not related to the beats but about beginner drumming. When i play sometimes the ends of the sticks tangle up in the fabrics of my trousers. Ok sounds funny but this could ruin a song. I tried the change the hight if the stool but then the snare hight has to changed for me the same way, so no change, maybe thats the reason why some drummers wear "funny" trousers on stage. Do you or someone have some recommendations? Thx.
Love you dear for your great tutorial..............thnx
How do you get the slight accent on the high hat?
Great lesson Steve, Muse for the win!
Will keep an eye out for your pinned comment with the sheet music
Ray Hollands I think the sheet music is in the description of the video, isn’t it? 🤔
Ray Hollands there for ya brotha

Thanks, already downloaded 🤘😎🤘
Not sure what how you pick what songs you break down to teach but was wondering if you plan on doing the song Pamela from Toto with the great and latest Jeff Porcaro. Great song with real nice beat and effects. Just wondering. Keep up the great work. Love your channel
Thanks Maria!
The most difficult ones for me so far out of this was Happy and Clocks😅
How are you doing now? Any progress?
If I purchase your program will I be able to make changes to your charts? What software are you using to write your charts?
The beard is Iong, your movements are as handsomeas your beard
Gracias
At around 4:50 Stephen starts doing some sort of back and forth motion with his right hand. Anyone know what this technique is or is intentional at all?
Colin McCardell this is an old technique that Ringo used. It makes a groove feel a certain way and I’ll use it occasionally to attain a certain feel.
Shuffling with Ghost notes lesson please!!!!
Bernard Purdie, "Babylon Sisters" by 'Steely Dan' is an excellent example for you as well :D You'll love it :D
What metronome do you use? Would you recommend it for beginners?
Hey guys! Let’s rock & roll! Thanks Steveo
Richard E Dupre you bet richard
I have learned so much from Steve & drum better daily! 4 months behind my new kit & im loving it more everyday
I watched your video "how to fix your weak hand drumming". I play german grip. Now in what grip should i do the isolation?
Whichever grip you're needing to work on. I would start with German if that's the one you play in most often.
Guess I'm more than a beginner and that's good to know
Vertigo reminded me of my sharona having not heard vertigo before.
Hey, I’m having a lot of trouble building my double bass speed, endurance, and accuracy. Just wondering if you have any tips?
oh yeah, he has lots. search any topic you want with "stephen taylor" before or after it and you'll see if he has a video on it or not
Practice them more?
Practice a lot, slower speed at first, then slightly increase the tempo. There are many videos on YT about fast double bass playing techniques too.
I like to do 16th notes 2 bars then up to 16th note triplets for 2 then back down too 16ths i do the same with my hands
Hi. Can someone help? What kind of rhythm is the one in this song?: @
What's good bro 😎
Michael Money Mic Bhairo what it is michael
@@StephenTaylorDrums just chilling 😎
Where'd you get that shirt, bro!?
Omfg! Where did you get that shirt???? Oh, and thanks for the lesson(s) 🙌
Jamie 'DJ Sloan’ it’s one of my own design. I may sell them at some point. And you’re more than welcome!

The country one reminded me of she's lump lol.
I automatically knew whay the first one was, starlight by muse
Stephen: Satisfaction.
Me: Pretty Woman
Ha!!! Pretty woman is such a great song
!!!!BEARDS!!!!
Hi
"Smooth"
Nice vid but smthn sounds off about your snare? Maybe it’s just me or just the way it was recorded
Ismael Tovar I’ve recently switched back to a single ply head on the snare. They’re dying A LOT faster than the double ply’s I was using. Didn’t realize the sound was so off in the mix until after I recorded this.
Drum fills: m.ua-cam.com/video/HQMDyOP7kKQ/v-deo.html
Am I the only one who did this
Taylor: ok so we’re gonna do the bass on 1,2,3 and 4
Me mishears: ok so let’s do this
Me doing bass on the ands: one AND two AND three AND four AND
Me: doing for 5 mins
Me: wait hold up that’s like SUPER TO HARD
Me: rewatches that part
Taylor: ok so we’re gonna do the bass on 1,2,3 and 4
Me: IM STUPID
PAT WILSON DRUM SESH FROM PINKERTON OR THE BLUE ALBUMN

@@StephenTaylorDrums youre the best, looking forward to it. If there isnt enough individuality to work with "The Pixies" have some awesome drumming!
Challage to 30 song for place my music stephen tylor
Hah no offense, but you snare sounds really good in this video!
travis thanks Travis
It would be great if you add notes to the video
5:02 Sounds like you cut yourself off there
I Like Trains indeed 👀😂
0:51 no...no he did not, there is indeed no pinned comment, he told a not truth...disappointing.😞
Gabriel FSP Description of the Video?
@@katrinas.daydreams oh I'm sure he put it in the description, I'm just joking around and giving him a hard time because he said he put it in the pinned comment.
Gabriel FSP LoL, I was at a water park with the fam when this went live. There now for ya! 🕺🏻🕺🏻🕺🏻
@@StephenTaylorDrums thank you for taking this as the sarcastic joke it was meant to be, I hope you had fun at the waterpark I just love pointing out inconsistencies in videos, not to be a jerk just because it's funny.
No Dance of Eternity????
Y is the sound weird on this vid?
We had some weird issues going on in the mix. They’ll be fixed for next time.
Stephen Taylor all good thanks for the reply and wanted to make sure you guys knew and appreciate that u read the comments ❤️ love your stuff I am a beginner drummer never had a lesson and yet have learned so much from you you’re absolutely awesome I really like your teaching style 👍🤙🏻
Somebody swiped your shoelaces... I'll give 'em back when you return the cymbals you stole because I didn't subscribe quick enough! Brings up an off topic question; what do you look for in shoes when you play? Another great vid - Thank You Stephen!
Personally i prefer barefoot but i find vans and convers are good dont really want anything loose or floppy but i have played in flip flop so whatever you can make work
Anyone else hate this snare as much as i do?
The video is helpful tho thx
So early the pinned comment isn't here
Aaron Bradford 🤓
Can you actually name the different beats, please?
Man ... your mix doesn't give justice to the snare
Harsh Maheshwari the snare was weird in the mix this session.
Hey man I love you and your drumming but.... your snare sounds like garbage in this video?!
Don’t want to be negative you’re an incredible drummer and your kit normally sounds amazing.
Sativa Sam we had issues with the snare this go round. It’s a newer snare and I’ve switched to single ply heads where we were using double ply. The head was just completely dead. Didn’t know until after and was listening back.
Stephen Taylor
Makes sense! Sorry again to be negative I just didn’t get what tone you were going for there haha! All the best
😂 stupid idea for a video
But
How to start a song? U know like intros u do
Nah, these type of lessons actually help a lot of players. I’ll see what I can do about some intros for you
♥️♥️
