Put some huge floor speakers on each side, dim the lights, pump up the volume and start playing Virtua Cop 1.
Experience it!
I loved this episode. A part II would be a god send
Seems like everyone wants a deeper dive so I will have to record something like that soon. Thanks for watching and I really want to rock some Virtual Cop now!
@@RetroRalph I would go with either Saturn, windows or ps2 release as those versions have the awesome music.

I been hoping that arcade 1up makes a light gun cabinet with house of the dead 1,2,3 there’s no doubt in my mind it would sell like hot cakes they just need to get the license from sega but we definitely need a light gun cabinet!!
people said it couldn't be done but this guy is living proof that Arcade 1up can make gun games. I agree with you we need house of the dead, all of the series, also virtua cop series, and time crisis series, these would be guaranteed sales
Ps3 had the best solution for light gun games, the actual time crises 3 gun with ir sensors.
Lethal Enforcers too!
Look up the Sinden Light Gun. It’ll put these crappy virtual mouse light guns outta business in 2020.
@@mikehough482 yeah when it finally gets made for commercial buying... I feel like I'm going to have to wait a extra year or two
I like the fact that this peripheral is out there for those who want to mod a cabinet or just play gun games. I really liked the Big buck series and The House Of The Dead's too. T2 lives on. Cheers.
Dude! It’s like you were reading my mind! I ordered mine last week, should be here any day now...thanks for this video. Keep up the great work. I also think you should do a “ how to” vid on setting light guns up; I know there are other tutorials out there but your how-to’s are superior, the way you break explanations down and make things easy to understand. Again, nice job. Keep going and growing!
I am reading your mind. ;-)
I bought a light gun couple years back it's a ultimarc with force feedback. It's still brand new in the box, never been opened. You reminded me that I have one, I need to look for it now. Thanks 👍
Good Luck finding it, thanks for watching man!
Looks like a great future project on a dedicated time crisis arcade 1up cabinet using the single rom direct boot method that u did on your TMNT cabinet
Thank you for taking up this all important critical topic. Light gun games are awesome and having an actual gun that works is everything to the overall gaming experience.
I have the aimtrack gun also, with the recoil feature. It's pretty cool!
I think this is very unique thing, lightgun arcade machine :D
Awesome video like always buddy ! :D
An oldie, but a goodie!
Retro Ralph I’m feeling a arcade 1up driving cab setup in the future. Keep the great videos coming
I think you saw something in the background, didn't you ;-)
ur room is so cool, the tile on the wall is such a cool design.
Best intro I’ve ever seen man good job
Awesome video and intro. Love T2. Hoping arcade 1up releases T2 one day.
Sigden light gun just went up on kickstarter, I think it also past its quota. I'm a backer for a recoil version, it doesn't need calibration and doesn't suffer from the drag the cursor along the screen feeling like the Ultimarc. You can also stand anywhere, it puts a thin border abound the edge of the screen and detects the limits so its pretty much plug and play.
Adam Randell I backed the project as well and I’m super excited about it! Thanks for the comment and I appreciate you watching!
Dude you are a wizard with this stuff!
Nah ... I think ETA is a wizard, I just tinker. Thanks for watching man! I appreciate the support!
Nice. I’ve been wanting to do something like this but didn’t realize it was doable on something small like my Arcade1up. Lethal Enforcers was my favorite gun game as a kid. Lol.
With mame installed in arcade cabinets along with those ir lightguns ,we can bring the 80’s & 90’s back.
Hahah great video! Awesome intro! That aim track is nice!
I would love a CarnEvil 1up Arcade Cabinet..
You'd have to rewire the gun to fit a Nerf gun. Probably the Takedown. Not a criticism, Carnevil just deserves something that cool.
That is the game that thought of when I saw this video title! Love CarnEvil!
@Angry The Clown: I have the Emulated version on my Raspberry Pi 3b+ but it's stupidly slow where I don't even bother. Is there a better way to play it for a reasonable amount?
@@kraziezombie have you considered the Pi 4? It can emulate N64 and Dreamcast flawlessly, so maybe it could run CarnEvil with no issues?
@@BrandonDewater888 Not really. Wanted to make sure its worth getting it. I'll check it out now. Thanks.
Beast busters in the back! Best ever!
They did say that this is being looked into. If so, I hope we'll finally get long awaited home releases of never before released light gun games, such as Terminator: Salvation for example!
The dog from Duck Hunt is actually threat part of the game 👍🏻
I've been thinking of this for a while. Its nice to see the Ultimarc in action! I've been holding off for a few reason, one was not being sure how well it would work. I assume you've put a larger monitor in that cabinet? What do you think about using the stock monitor with light guns? Edit: what PC specs are you running with that?
The PC specs are wayyyyyyy overkill. I just used my gaming PC for it. I have a old dell optiplex that I'm going to see if I can turn into a light gun machine. I didn't highlight the PC because it's total overkill for what I was showing. I think it would work great with the 17" stock monitor. I put a 19" in but it was for the NeoGeo system. This was done way before I even started messing with the Ultimarc light guns.
Cool Stuff…!! I noticed the Virtual Pinball Machine in the background... you definitely need to make vids on that Bad Boy..!!
Hey Ralph, I have a question, if I wanted to make my arcade 1up into a light gun game, could I take what I've learned here and put a flash kit inside instead of a raspberry Pi and would it still work?
I hope arcade1up does a light gun cabinet with terminator 2 , time crisis 1,2,3 & area 51 that be awesome
I got my aimtrak with force feedback a few months ago everything you said I had the same issues I turned the force feedback off cause it kept getting stuck or something when I would shoot fast if I shoot slow seemed to do better but it throws me off when I'm expecting feedback and it doesn't work.
I have a pi with a Dolphin bar setup. It's fun. 😁 Btw you can get a mapable foot pedal online. I got on for a kick pedal for drums in vr.
Can’t wait for the sinden light guns
Best vid intro ever. Savage👍🤣😂🤣😃🤙
Thanks man, I appreciate your continued support :-)
nice video @RetroRalph. I noticed your MVS cab has windows. Is it a PC desktop built instead of raspberrypi? I know for Pi3b+, certain games like House of the Dead 1 & 2 will run extremely slow. What PC did you use and how difficult was it to config the light gun?
Nice video keepsafe to everyone
Wow fantastic gun
I've been asking about a steering wheel concept as well. Thanks
That's actually not hard to mod yourself
Looks like it works well! I love light action games, I think the evolution of it now is VR really since you get 360 immersion, Until Dawn Rush of Blood plays really well but I wish classics like Time Crisis was rebooted in VR! I kinda want to try this out for the nostalgia, closest thing I've got atm is House of The Dead 2+3 and Ghost Squad for Wii and then Time Crisis + Jesse James for the PS2 but no fatty CRTs in possession :/
There is a Virtual Cabinet, can't recall name atm that runs MAME Gun games in VR, and you can use a virtual lightgun. ALSO, other VR combat games really up the experience so that LightGun games are not as exciting, but they do have nostalgia.
Nice video!
You should make a tutorial video of how to install retro pie to arcade 1up but step by step for begginers, also i want to run mame and neo geo rage on arcade 1up
I just received my dual arcade guns 2.0. I got them from the same site these aimtrak guns are from. Will I be able to set up my guns on my retropie setup? I'm currently using an air mouse
that's pretty cool! definitely beats a mouse any day of the week!
Without question, thanks for watching!
I'd love to see Ocean Hunter running on this set up
T2 and Time Crisis are two of my favorite shooting games! Nice choice. I find the light gun you demoed are too expensive. $95 each is too outrageous.
one light game I really enjoyed back in the day , was a game called , "Lucky & Wild" It was like a Driving/Light Gun game....
Definitely cool... Area 51 is one of my favorites but I would love to be able to play House of the Dead which I played more then Area 51 in the Arcade!
Hey Ralph, great video. I'm in the process of modding a PS1 Guncom with the Aimtrak electronics I got from Ultimarc. One question off topic. Your Levelup cab from GRS, is it on a riser? It looks taller in this video. I know Ryan is working on a riser. Don't know if he finalized a design. I'm will definitely get one when they become available.
Damn you have a good eye. It's a prototype and it's pretty sweet. I'm waiting on Ryan to give me the OK to do the review on it. He sent it with some prototype graphics so he's sending me a new kit before I post it. It's pretty awesome on the riser, I like that he made it streamlined with the system.
@@RetroRalph OK. Cool. Can't wait.
@@RetroRalph I saw the other comments about a racing cab. I also saw the Logitech G29, I believe mount on a cab. I love racing games too.
I can't confirm of deny this ;-)
@@RetroRalph I guess we have to wait and see then. We'll played Sir! ;-)
Check out the new Sinden Lightguns that was recently funded several times over on Kickstarter. They are supposed to be way more reliable and no real set up involved. The way they work, you never have to calibrate them, they have the solenoid kick option and will work with basically any game or emulator. You can also shoot from any distance or angle, they're also developing a way that your movements in real life can be mirrored to your characters movements on screen with some games since the technology can triangulate where your gun is in physical space.
I wish I could remember where I stumbled upon it, but some guy has a video where he has a gun working on a lcd like it would with a crt without a bar. It was still in prototype mode, but he has a kickstarter. I was hoping thats what this was gonna be about haha. Cool to see a more in depth video on the aimtrack gun
Are you talking about the NES duck hunt video? I saw the tech at PAX and the company (I believe HyperKin) said it only works on Duck Hunt right now. They didn't seem confident that it would support other games anytime soon. I guess we will have to stay tuned to see what happens. Thanks for your continued support of the channel man!
@@RetroRalph I think that might be it I honestly cant remember.
It's the Sinden Lightgun. I'm waiting for the kickstarter to start. I think it kicks off this weekend. It looks promising.
What pc would you recommend to use for the at games legends ultimate or could you let us know your build. Thanks!
You definitely need to do a gun cabinet, and show Lethal Enforcer.
Thx for a great video, how many inches does you screen have? Looking for a perfect solution for arcade built, not only light gun games but also all the classic side scrollers, run’n’guns and fighting. Want to remain retro original look, are there actually lcd monitors bigger that 21 inch in 4:3? Great channel ‼️
Even that MAME light gun mod can play all the possible light gun games for endless play and continues.
The PS3 has the Namco gun for Time crisis, you had to put the IR sensors around the TV.
@ retro ralph, way cool mod!!!!!!! id love to see u do a operation wolf arcade 1up cab, that and tmnt are some of my favorite games from back in the day
or lethal enforcer would kick ass
Are there any plans for a recoil version? Gave myself a black eye the first time I played Time Crisis as I didn't know it had it :D
ua-cam.com/video/4-jbsT8O7PE/v-deo.html
Hey Larry check out the Sinden light guns! They look great!
I guess I never saw this comment, thanks so much for stopping by my channel. They do have a recoil version but at this point, the Sinden light gun is shipping so that's the way to go. If you're not familiar with the project, you can find out about it here: www.sindenlightgun.com/
This is what I'm planning to do when I get the rest of the arcade1up stuff sorted (after the PC has been upgraded once again as I know a few games like Mortal Kombat 4 and Tekken 3 do not work properly with the AMD A8-5500 chip that I have in the PC at the moment. Planning to install a lightgun, spinner and track ball into the control panel and on the side (which hopefully will NOT ruin the MKII side art).
Please tell me you kickstarted on the sinden gun I am so looking forward to that coming!
I did, I can't wait! I'm assuming you did too?
I did too. I’m so pumped for it. Of course I backed the recoil version which means I’ll probably be one of the last to get mine but oh well. It’s gonna be awesome and will put these crappy virtual mouse light guns outta business in 2020.
That sucks that it doesnt work. I think you need a round tube tv right?
At least you do for duck hunt or lethal enforcers on console.
I'd love to see the games. CarnEvil, house of the dead, die hard, lethal enforcers, T2, area 51, and there was this cop game. The stationary uzi 9mm made this fun for T2. Plus the cabinet was so deep it was like you were inside it.
Kudos man!
Great video, but dammit now I have something more I need to add to my Arcade! It's alllll your fault Ralph! Definitely will add some next level fun!
I will gladly feed the Arcade addiction. ;-)
@@RetroRalph hahahha true story... Addiction for sure!
I’d really like to see a Wrestlefest 1up
You're running on a emulation pc correct? As that looks like windows 10. I tried my aimtrack with a pi and it didn't work very well. Couldn't really configure it(or couldn't figure out how to). And also lethal enforces I couldn't figure out how to shoot offscreen to reload. Looks like if I just setup a pc emulation system that will resolve those issues. And I can run virtual cop... Been meaning to do that... Just not enough time in the day.
how is the responsiveness for the guns, you weren't moving too fast so i couldn't tell if the guns track quickly or not.
Awesome mod bro!!! So can I attach 2 guns for 2 player action shooting games and switch to the arcade sticks for fighters or classic arcade games?? I’d love for my 4 & 6 year old daughters to play house of the dead with the guns!!!
You mounted the bar on top of the 1up cabinet?
I need help with the light gun config. I bought an Aimtrak Gun and it seemed to set up fine then when I select the gun config the screen comes up, it detects the gun and the screen stays on the configuring and nothing at all happens....
Makes me want to get house of the dead even more now lol
Oh yeah!!! House of the Dead rock!
Holy smokes ..I want that
With this Aimtrack lightgun work on my PS2 with a PS1 game of Area 51?
Pretty cool but couldn’t you put a crt inside a 1up so you can have the guns on the panel like in the arcade?
You could but I would be afraid to put a heavy CRT in a 1up. It would be fun to try though... hmmmmmmmm.
Retro Ralph maybe build a platform inside if possible to set it on to support it or have it on some kind of stand
I love that Neo Geo art for the Arcade1up cab. Is that available for sale anywhwre?
Not right now... my buddy Joe who runs Szabo's has the best artwork I have seen so far. (check it out)
www.szabosarcades.com/collections/full-art-kits/products/arcade-1up-neo-geo-kit
Old video, I know...and now Arcade1Up has talked about lightgun games. The problem I foresee is the screen is way too small for a lightgun game imo. I don’t know if they can make a good lightgun cab. I hope they can though!
So, I have this setup - Arcade 1up and an Aimtrak I just got...set up just like this...LED bar on top. However the gun doesn't track "down" - only left and right. I wrote to Ultimarc and they wrote back saying it won't work this way (even though I sen a screen shot of this working). So, how did you get the LED bar to register? (Im using arcade 1up on a riser - is your machine on a riser too?)
I'm in the same situation. I can't get it to calibrate no matter what.
Jonathan Abdilla so one thing that’s helped is I had to actually open up the LED bar and bend up the LED’s (on Ultimarc’s recommend) they were too far down. Just slightly. I’m getting better response but I will see today if it’s still ok. I’m not saying to do that - just letting you know what I was told to do and how it turned out :)
@@patrussomusic4987 Thanks, I've gotten it to work, it's still super finicky though.
I'm late to this party. But I have a question. Is it possible to use a light gun on a projector? If so can you explain how? Thank you.
crashoverride576 Not effectively with today’s technology but there’s a project called the Sinden project that will indeed work on a projector. It’s not released yet but it’s coming soon, here’s where you can check it out: www.sindenlightgun.com
@@RetroRalph thank you!
Wait for the Sinden light gun. It's a lot better than using the wii technology.
I can't wait for the Sinden. These cabs are cool, but they don't recreate the lightgun experience like the Sinden will. www.kickstarter.com/projects/sindenlightgun/the-sinden-lightgun
You guys should check out the sinden light gun works with LCD without sensors
First Kickfarted I have backed since 2012.
What are the differences between with and without recoil? Why did you choose without recoil?
Amir Amran it’s the same gun but without the solenoid that provides the force feedback function. 👍🏻
@@RetroRalph So the recoil feature contains rumble feature in other words? This is awesome! You don't like rumble in light guns? Btw, how come your software does not have the white border that allows the gun to actually work? In the product official site they show that border when using the gun.
Would you say this is the most premium light gun on the market that works with modern monitors and resembles the feel of the 80-90' light gun games? I'm a huge veteran retro gamer. Actually i only play retro games, from the 80's until ps2/xbox. Nice video. Brings back memories from childhood.
i actually owned the time crisis gun it was awesome i also tried to win the competition the company had and they sent me out an offical time crisis hat lol i still got it
You guys should check out the Sinden light gun! Seems to take care of the issues he mentions with aimtrak!
Bear & Bear Dream Vacations, LLC Thanks for watching man! We supported the project so We’re excited for that to be released!
Sup Ralph...hey can you turn off the high pitch fire shot noise in Termintor when you kill a guy? I dont recall that being in the original? Just sounds weird. Cool video though.
I'm not sure I know what you're talking about but I will take a look. I have a couple of versions of the game based on a few revisions of the Arcade PCB I will take a look at that and let you know. Thanks for watching and continuing to support the channel.
I think he is talking about the digital beeping noise it makes when you lock onto a target before shooting the rockets. The bee-beep noise. But it's always been in the game. Unmistakable sound, I remember hearing that noise over all the other games at the arcade. LOL
@@jk8466 interestingly, it was also used as the pause sound for the Midway Arcade Treasures series
Is this comparable with pandora box 6s??
Ralph how good is that gun with its recoil!? Worth the buy???
This man killed a Guncon 2 for no reason
I have the official time crisis gun for the ps3 game. I wonder if it would work for this…
What system setup is this? Hyper spin? Do you sell these setups?
Mikel Boyer I don’t but I have a buddy that does. I’m going to do another proof of concept video featuring one of his systems. They’re not cheap but it’s the best PC build I have ever seen. Stay tuned ....
bro, does this light gun work for all PS1 and PS2 games ? how accurate is it ? coz i remember the old original light guns on the Console used to be Pin Point Accuracy, it didnt even have an annoying cursor rolling on the screen ! new consoles i believe wii and ps3 have this issue with LCD, is this gun any better ? kindly let me know i really liked this vid !...
Would it be easy to just get an old Nintendo wii and dedicate it for gun games?
It would be very easy, here's an example of that in a video I did a while back: ua-cam.com/video/nPzJ4N5F7YI/v-deo.html
i think the aimtrack are well over priced and have poor aim and detection so ill be going a different route - ill be putting a light gun together myself , the gun is non other from Operation wolf , ( i was lucky enough to pick up one in the uk , and italy over the years which are rare here, not sure about the US) with be using a wii remote and a dolphin bar , the insides of the wii will be gutted and placed inside the operation wolf gun, the gun already has a grenade button on the gun, gun sight and hook up the 5volts for the recoil and trigger, the OP gun has an industrial solenoid recoil which feels like a real Uzi machine gun, pretty cool and just the best recoil( check out operation wolf arcade and see the gun) i was able to pick up the parts of an original Operation wolf arcade from italy , the original Marquee , coin door, the gun base with the instruction layout , and of course the Gun with its base and coin start button. great video dude, love the machines :)
How’d that work out?
@@oliverhoffman4574 it works very well.. just need to mount the gun and build the cabinet .. ill probably start on it in the new yr due to woodwork covid restrictions
Lethal Enforcers 1 and 2 and Area 51 that would be insane
Incredibly disappointed you set up a light gun and played no House Of The Dead, the greatest light gun series
where can I buy or download these games from?
I can’t get mine to work and I’m using the wiimote with dolphin bar
Can this be used with a Pandora’s box?
And all those who were waiting
for Operation Wolf and/or Operation Thunderbolt, were left disappointed...... Sulking in a corner.
Sorry man... next time, I promise.
@@RetroRalph Haha. Just messin. Keep up the good work mate. Would love to see you attempt Outrun or Chase HQ next.
If Arcade1up comes out with that terminator arcade machine then I'll buy one
KTM690EnduroR 35 you can install the a raspberry pie 3 on the 1up arcade and play the terminator on it. Man
@@retror.d.1630 ,yeah, I can. I can also build an arcade from the ground up...I just don't want illegal unlicensed material
And now I have to find light gun games walkthroughs.
I have that same red arcade sign. Lol
It's either House of the Dead or Area 51 when it comes to mame.
would be cool if the gun had some recoil to it via some solenoid with a heavy core inside
Operation Wolf:
"You are finished..............here"
I know I missed that one but I was having problems with the ROM. :-/ I loved that game in the arcade though. Thanks for watching bud :-)
