Roberta Flack, She was never underrated nor underappreciated that I remember. Her voice was pure. The lyrics from her heart at least that's what I felt listening too her. Great song and reaction...
I've listened to this song for decades. It's fun to watch someone else's reaction to hearing this for the first time. The thing is, I still have that same reaction after decades of hearing it. That's a classic.

"The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" was played as the wake-up music on flight day 9 to the astronauts aboard Apollo 17, on their last day in Lunar orbit (Friday, 12/15/1972) before returning to earth, thus ending the last manned explorations of the Moon. The use of the song was most likely a reference to the "face" of the moon below the spacecraft.
I could listen to this legend sing forever. One of the most beautiful songs. I can't imagine anyone else singing this. It belongs to the Queen Roberta ✨
I remember growing up in the 70s, and she was a household name. She is captivating, isn’t she? I could listen to her forever. If I could sing like her, I wouldn’t know what stress is!
Written in 1957 by the political singer/songwriter Ewan McColl of Salford. He is the father of Kirsty McColl who recorded Fairy Tale of New York. He wrote the song about Peggy Seeger, sister of Pete Seeger. He also wrote Dirty old town about the city of Salford.
Wow, you were lucky. I did manage to see Randy Crawford who was incredible too. She sang with the mic on her lap and still lifted the roof with her voice
Oh Roberta! One of the finest singers I ever heard. The feeling and emotion from this lady just warms your soul. And the arrangement is so subtle and beautiful too. The words, the music and the voice, heavenly!
She's unique and she has such a wonderful calm, clear voice. And the song's meaning is completely there. For someone so young, you really learn quickly and you have the soul of a poet.
@@mspfinney yeah but that was then. My point is that her name should be mentioned much more often when the conversation of great female artist of the past is initiated. And Madonna was never as good as Ms Flack and I doubt she ever will. She was lucky she came on the scene when singing became about visuals as opposed to voice. To me the 80s marked a real descent in quality and the industry never recovered from it. It's why I never stopped listening to the music my parents loved (both were born in the 40s) and I impressed upon my own child the importance of filling one's head and ears with anything other than the drivel of the day that's being pushed on listeners.
