@@MikeBen, stop it, neither of you speak better than an average native speaker, but you approach native fluency; too many grammar errors, turn on captions and take a look. Also, there are dialects of Spanish spoken, and everyone does not speak the same dialect, just as there are dialects of black English and white English. You cannot compare dialects and say one is superior to another; they are essentially different languages. But don't take my comments wrongly; you both are superior speakers of a second language. QED

As a result, my comments relate only to spoken English. Black American English or a Black dialect of American English is typically spoken by Blacks someplace in America, urban or rural. And, of course, a White dialect of American English is spoken predominately by Whites. Black comedians are famous for doing White dialects. As a linguist, I speak many languages, including White and Black dialects of American English in addition to Turkish, German, Brazilian and Spanish. I'm language literate, something uncommon in the US, but very common in Europe where folks often speak English, German, Italian, French, and other languages from the continent. QED
hey man i’m mexican but was born and raised in oklahoma. my family speaks perfect spanish but mines very sub par, you’re an inspiration for me. i understand 80% of it but speaking is hard for me. i cant roll my r’s so in casual conversation it’s hard for my to have confidence saying certain words. now that you practice in conversation so much i have a question for you, have you had a dream in spanish yet? i remember my friend who learned spanish and who got fluent told me the moment he had a dream in spanish was when he fully felt like he had “arrived” lol much love man

Hi Mike, another great video. Something that really called my attention was when you complimented Katerina on her phrasing in Spanish. You pointed out that unlike most of us who have ¨studied" Spanish, she uses words and phrases that are Spanish in origen. That´s true for Jonathan as well. Most of us have English phrases in our heads that we translate to Spanish. They´re not doing that; their thoughts are in Spanish, and that´s what comes out of their mouths. When you asked Katerina how she learned, she answered that she did a lot of investigating. I wish she had been more specific. Jonathan said that for the first 6 months he did nothing but listen for as much as 5 hours per day. Which is exactly what Pablo of Dreaming Spanish recommends. He recommends this because when we try to express our English thoughts in Spanish we don´t yet know how to express them, so we find a dictionary or auto-translator that gives us a word or combination of words that a native Spanish speaker would never use in that circumstance. An example that Pablo has used is that in Spanish you can´t say ¨I´m freezing my ass off.¨ A native Spanish speaker would likely wonder why you´re sitting on a chunk of ice, and where is your butt if not on your body. They would express the same reaction to the cold completely differently. I wish I had known about his ideas, which make so much sense to me now, years ago. I´ve been at this for much longer than you, and yes I can speak and write. But not even at your level. I can´t imagine myself interviewing people in Spanish and publishing those on UA-cam. So, cut yourself some slack (I have absolutely no idea how I would express that in Spanish), and keep on keepin´ on!

I would pick the country, pick an accent in the country and from there listen to and speak with people with that accent as much as possible. Over time you’ll find yourself imitating their cadence and their word choice. Check out Katerina’s channel because she discusses this at length in a video. Espero que te ayude!

Also, I would simply try to listen and understand what I can and then progressively return to videos like these to test your progression in you understanding. I did that with a lot of videos while I was early on and it helped a lot to gauge my progress.

You can tell she's latina. She looks latina. In fact, in one her videos she mentions that people used to get mad at her because when they tried to talk to her in Spanish when she was here in the US, she didn't speak Spanish when they approached her and we Hispanic people know when someone is Latino too and get mad if they play dumb or do not want to speak the language. A lot of Hispanic children that are born in he US don't like to speak Spanish but eventually they realize their mistake but trust me, they're still able to speak it because they hear it at home even if the parents speak English. Something smells fishy here and I have a lot of doubts. I'm not convinced. Sorry. I don't buy it.
Early in my spanish journey I was recommended find a latina girlfriend. There is no better motivator than love. I now use spanish in my job as a pharmacy tech.
@@MikeBen Surprisingly approaching 2 years. Duolingo, Babbel, formal classes, some books, but I can barely hold a basic convo. I feel I really need to do an immersion approach in order to fail and learn quicker :) I'm still trying to find a Spanish-language meetup that isn't full of fluent speakers. Kudos to what you've accomplished btw!
