Just one advice when it comes to this drone. When used in saltwater, always put it in a tub with freshwater and run the thrusters for a few minutes to drive all the salt out from the bearings. If you just wash it off with a hose like the manual says, the thrusters will still be filled with saltwater, and they will eventually seize up.
Dangar Remote Underwater Nautical Knowledge Testing And Navigation Kindergarten, haha how long did it take to come up with that? Great work as always, thanks for sharing your experience with us, and looking forward to the next video.
That is awesome!!! Thinking about all the applications for something like that. Would be great for doing visual hull inspections, seeing what's tangled in your prop and shaft. Dive boats could use one for keeping an eye on group dives. Handy little devices!
i work on oil rigs and always like to hang out in the ROV shack and watch them flying, testing and repairing. Now I can play with my own!. Great video as always

Now I get what you were referring to last night in Pasadena. I guess I missed this vid. Great to have met you mate. Hope to see you one day on Dangar island.
Wow the Gadius mini looks like a great tool for boat inspections in low currents, reasonable price too. Looking forward to more Stuventures, Jeff in LA USA
Might I suggest that your next ROV practice session be an inspection of your mooring. It would give you practice using the ROV to accomplish a task (other than sightseeing). Besides you should be using the mooring again pretty soon, and it would be nice to know its condition beforehand.
I'm impressed! Educational as well as I have no idea as to how all of this stuff works. Chasing Innovation has done a nice job and good on them for providing this to ya.
This video of that underwater drone is going to stir up a lot of sales for that unit. I want one now so badly!! This marine test was spectacular. I could totally run down the batteries before I even realized it watching those beauties down there. Diving "dry" is a wonderful idea. I'm glad you will be featuring this drone in many videos coming up. Wish I could meet at one of your appointed group meetings here in the US. Please record or live stream when you can. I can't wait!
I was really impressed with both the stability in the ocean and the clarity of the video feed. I'm really looking forward to sending it on it's first real mission!
Next time, unreel the control cable and remove all the twist from it .. to prevent it from looping like it did .. and then attach it to the ROV. ALSO, use some saltwater grease on that O-ring to help preserve it and maintain that watertight seal. Nice little toy, that! Well done!
I can imagine you are well pleased the wretched engine bay is nigh on done. The splishy splashy sound as the Rover breaks the surface. When in the bath... I can do that sound quite naturally, no machinery needed.
Wow Stu, what a great bit of kit, it would have come in very handy 40 years ago when I was doing a lot of diving myself, lol, thanks for another great video buddy. Cheers
That is just neat, it used to be the rovs were big clunky and hundreds of thousands of dollars now there within the reach of most people. Thanks Stu that was that was really interesting. I learned to dive in 1975 when the Atpack was brand new, and drysuits were for the commercial diver. How times have changed.
Yes, it wasn't that long ago you would spend $20,000 any any vaguely useful ROV and it would be huge too. This is much more practical for the average person.
The Sailing Soulianis incurred quite an expense to lift their sailboat from the water to determine a simple problem this Gladius could have identified at a fraction of the cost. Seems like the potential for this device is endless
I definitely think it will be a good thing to keep on board at all times. If you can't pull your boat out on a trailer easily it will be great for inspecting props, anodes, leaks etc.
That is a cool rov. I really like the feature that it handles, automatically, the vertical and lateral stability when submerged. It seems to have only a short learning curve which makes it more enjoyable for a novice to explore the underwater terrain.
Maybe a good idea to make a mountingpoint on the top of your handrail on the boat. Winding the tether wire on the spool will make twists in the wire. If you make a spinning holder you could connect the spool to the one sided holder. Mount the battery /receiver block to the spool too. Have a winding grip and be able to spool it in very easy without twisting the wire. Add a simple friction brake to prevent it from unspooling itself by the weight of the cable hanging down to the surface. And if the holder has a swivel the drone could even take more line out by itself if you drive futher from the boat. Nothing fancy. Just some steel arm you put in a rod holder maybe. A bearing with a plate with two pins on it that will stick through the spool. One just long enough to come out and the other 8 cm longer. Both with a small hole in it. Two r clips to secure. The longer pin is the handle to turn the line in or out. Plastic strip with a curve that will sit over the bearing shaft on the stationary part of the with a hand screw a few cm oit to be able to push the plastic strip against the turning plate that holds the spool. By turning left you reduce brake and turning right will brake harder. Will make life easy and will linit wear on the tether. Long story for a simple brain wave. Great video. Nice underwater drone.
Cape May NJ would make a great place to visit while in the NYC area. It's a little over 2 hours south of the city and is a beautiful little town/city at the southern tip of NJ. It's the oldest seaside town/resort in the country full of Victorian architecture. It might make a better place to meet up for folks than the zoo of NYC. The dock at the Lobster House is definitely Stu's kind of place where you can eat fresh seafood, burgers and COLD beer next to the commercial fishing boats.
I remember catching a lot of Leather Jacket right near where you were testing out at Lion Island. It looks like a awesome aid to helping locate fish to catch.
Thanks for the great reporting submariner Stu ,that little magical device is a astonishing bit of kit ,when you think ten fifteen years ago Bob Ballard would have given his first born and his wooden testicle to have that technology ,it's truly amazing the quality of it for the price ,I will be madly saving my shackles and recycling beer bottles as fast as I can drink them ,thanks for taking us on your journey.
It is amazing how far the technology has come. We've been seeing it a lot in aerial drones for years but it is less well known that things have been progressing at the same rate below the waves as well.
U could also do inspections of the underside of boats, your own and other...Even for some pay for that kind of service so your customers can see and evaluate a boat from the underside before They might buy the boat Etc....😎👍😁
The "Dangar Remote Underwater Nautical Knowledge Testing And Navigation Kindergarten!" Sometimes watching your videos is like watching an episode of Rick and Morty. You never know what easter eggs your gonna come across! Man ROV's have come a long way. That consumer model probably is easier to control than those 3 ton units you used to see in 90's documentaries! Wow. Tulsa, Pasadena, and New York. For all your Aussie subs that think "All Americans are the same." That's an itinerary to show the difference! You'll probably be passing close to my hometown of Lincoln, NE on your way. A lot closer culturally and (dare I say) politically to Tulsa than either Cali or NY. Hope you get to enjoy what we've got to show here in the US, and get to avoid our average density of assholes! Great vid Stu!

Excellent, you are going to thoroughly enjoy using this SUV, looking forward to seeing those vids. after all your hard work it will be good to see you getting a buzz from what your doing, all the best.
Definitely worth a spot on the cool tools list. I could see my luck though. I'd take it down on a dive wreck to play / practice, and while flying it along, and my first clue to the resident giant grouper would be seeing a huge mouth close around the rov. Right before my tether started zipping out. Lol.
I can't wait until you get your trawler in the water and start doing underwater videos. I love that sort of thing. I think your videos are definitely going to take a quantum leap forward for you. Both thumbs up!

We had a video ray ROV and seabotics ROV assigned to the homeland security unit down in Mobile Alabama they both worked pretty well, some times in deep ocean water the larger units are nice as strong currents do cause issues. That small units looks nice though good luck!
Yes, there is no doubt that for true ocean work you would need a larger ROV, but I am impressed with what they have managed squeezed into a small package.
Dangar Marine I certainly agree I was impressed by it for sure! Have a good time over here in the states when you come. It’s very hot on the gulf coast of Alabama right now!!! It shouldn’t be to bad the places you will be however.
Great video. At first I though it was weird that the ROV doesn't have a tilt camera instead of tilting the entire Rov but was then amazed to see it still holds depth while moving forward and reverse while in the tilt. I'm very impressed with the features of this Rov and it seems to be a respectable price point. I like the size of it too... I might just have to look into getting one of these.
Absolutely fantastic quality video. I can see a lot of work with that ROV around Marina's looking for dropped keys and wallets. Also quick inspections of hulls after contact with debris or bottom.
You probably already know, but I'll mention it anyway just in case; different lens filters for different water types makes a huge difference in underwater video/image quality. The biggest one being a red lens filter to add the red light wavelength back to the image that the water doesn't allow through. I learned this diving with my GoPro. I highly recommend looking into it, it's a simple thing that makes worlds of difference. Very cool ROV! I'm excited to see what you find with your new boat and toys!
That thing is great. The tether might be a challenge to keep from getting caught on things and spooled nicely but sure looks fun. You could check if your anchor is set with it. You definitely need a tablet but be sure it doesn’t go overboard!
Hey Stu a lady contacted me desperate to find a phone she dropped into the water on the hawkesbury 2 weeks ago. She was very specific about the exact location in 1.8 mtrs of water. The sim has the only pics she has of her baby. I couldnt help her this weekeknd......Could be a first search mission for the Gladius
@SaltyBrains Maybe. The biggest issue would be sand and silt covering it so you can't see it. I would bet money that the memory card survived though. There are also companys that specialize in retreiving data from damaged cards, and hard drives. IF you could get the phone back, the pictures are most likely still there.
@@DangarMarine i dont have your email stu The lady is very keen for a search. I have a 5.7 trailcraft to help if needed. If you calli can give you her details Frank o connor 404891441 Regards
A cool little piece of kit! Sort of wish the tether had a stronger cable in it, in case you have to retrieve it from under something, but I suppose the weight would be a problem. It's going to be fun to play with, though, I can see that. Might save a bit of air, too.
Should have done an inspection run of the hull of the boat you were on. It would have been nice to see the piratical application of the unit other than just the fun stuff. Another great video though.
Hi Dangar Cousteau. How long does it take to recharge the Gladys when on board the boat. I notice you didn't pack the charger! I presume you can't swap out a spare battery pack. It will be great for inspecting hull damage and fouled props etc. But can it be rigged to pick a case of beer off the sea floor?
You can mirror your phone or tablet screen to a much larger monitor for a bigger picture. That's what I would be looking at doing. What ever size screen you like!
Looks like a pretty slick unit over all. I was thinking that I'd be liking to learn how to drive search tracks with it so it wouldn't be just a random look around. Too bad you won't be in the Seattle area this time to the US.
Just one advice when it comes to this drone. When used in saltwater, always put it in a tub with freshwater and run the thrusters for a few minutes to drive all the salt out from the bearings.
If she has a google account of some kind there is good chance they're backed up, if she does a search for google photo and logs in there may be some.
A woman separated from her cell phone; she must be on tranquilizers!
Tell her to email me if it is my end of the Hawkesbury.
@@DangarMarine i dont have your email stu

A cool little piece of kit! Sort of wish the tether had a stronger cable in it, in case you have to retrieve it from under something, but I suppose the weight would be a problem. It's going to be fun to play with, though, I can see that. Might save a bit of air, too.
wow you should see the ROVs 4K on my 60 inch 4K TV. incredible.
Wow the ROV works great! Bugger that you didn't find Nemo or that sunken galleon. Looking forward to seeing what you do find in future adventures.
I was expecting to find both. ;)
Should have done an inspection run of the hull of the boat you were on. It would have been nice to see the piratical application of the unit other than just the fun stuff. Another great video though.
I'll do some inspections of the trawler once it is back on the mooring.
@@DangarMarine That is one expensive little toy. Right at $1,600.00 U.S.
How much fun can you have.....Sorry I'll miss you mate..... I'll be at sea.....
Not sure of the recharge time, but the battery life is 2 hours.
What a great little toy might need to get one to film Snapper or any fish taking my baits how cool is that
Im genuinely impressed! More than a toy!
That ROV is very cool. Thanks for sharing.
You're welcome James. :)
You can mirror your phone or tablet screen to a much larger monitor for a bigger picture. That's what I would be looking at doing. What ever size screen you like!
Hey Paul, that's good thinking. :)
Looks like a pretty slick unit over all.
I was thinking that I'd be liking to learn how to drive search tracks with it so it wouldn't be just a random look around.
Too bad you won't be in the Seattle area this time to the US.
Yes, finding a good way to search a set pattern will be an interesting challenge.
Cool! I could do with one of those in my bath to find the soap!
