I just found this. Michael Hedges is so important to me. To hear a piece that didn't make it onto Breakfast after all these years is such a gift. Thank you Randy Lutge. Nobody has risen to his level since. These documents are a gift.
As with many of the others, I developed a love of Michael Hedges' work in the early '80's. I saw him in Ann Arbor a couple of times, once in a large venue (the Power Center) and once in a smaller one the name of which I've forgotten. I also encountered him in a record shop in Santa Barbara in the early '90's. . . . Thanks Randy for this glorious and ongoing work . . .
🎶"Outside Cabin 11" is titled for the cabin Michael lived in during the summer of 1972, while he attended Interlochen Arts Academy, the National Music Camp. "Based on our records, Michael was a camper in 1972 and on staff (counselor) in 1973-75. He was a lifeguard at least one of those summers". From an email i received from Interlochen. - Laura. 🗞After graduation from Enid High School in 1972, Hedges won a guitar scholarship to the Stan Kenton Jazz Camp; and then attended an eight-week session at the National Music Camp in Interlochen, Michigan. His life plan was solidifying at a rapid pace. “For the first time, I rubbed shoulders with musicians who were serious about performance as a career,” Hedges wrote in his Stropes book. - Oklahoma Today, 2007. Michael played a black Les Paul in those days. Michael sold his Les Paul to Randy Lutge.....
Michael was a true pioneer in the field of developing different open tunings and his use of both harmonics and percussive tapping that others would go on to copy. He was called "the guitarist from Mars" for good reason :)
Thank you Randy, so very much for all these wonderful videos. Allowing me to reconnect with my acoustic guitar in such a profound way, along with viewing videos and live performances at Tuck and Patti's fb page where they are generously sharing. Healing that is so needed may all feel it. Xo
Randy, do you by any chance have any footage of MH doing a super slowed down version of the George Harrison penned 'If I Need Someone' ? I saw him perform it at Blues Alley in D.C. in...1989...I think? I don't know if he ever performed it before or after, but it was completely memorizing. The whole club was speechless, transfixed.

He was super special with a heart as big as his wonderful talent. Thanks for the note.
What an outstanding artist and human being.
And you too Randy Lutge.
What a privilege it must have been to view and record him so early on.

Also Michael graduated a music scholar from Peabody Music Conservatory. I met him there in Baltimore Maryland

Thank you. I learned a lot of things I did not know about him from this film.

Thanks, Lizbeth...
What a magical time and place this was - I taught guitar across the street at Swain's House of Music,, same room Jerry Garcia had taught in.
What fun. Thanks for checking in, neighbor!
Fantastic to get to hear this unreleased track! Thanks so much for posting. Some awesome rhythmic/harmonic techniques in this tune, as always : )
Cool! Thanks for the note!
Such a cool tune and how did this not make any of his recordings?
that it was. thanks for the note.
not likely. i never knew him, in these years, to perform any but his own instrumentals.
Ocean wave sounds

I'm going to take a wild guess that the tuning is CGDGBE ?
always great fun trying to guess his tunings :)
Back in a time where he still seemed like a normal human being!
Did he ever record a studio version of this tune? Sounds Great!!! Don't know how I missed it.
i don't think this was ever done in studio.
Never is right

Sounds like he took Duane Allman a step further
@iamjezuzchrist To me it sounds very much like his style. I hope someone can identify it :)
Might not be his tune... nice though.
who's tune is it?
