It's almost a crime that ship was not preserved for future generations to see.
She is preserved she is in New York City and you can tour her
@@eugenemcdonald4414 no; that is USS Intrepid, an Essex class....
Yeah the enterprise got scraped
And she’s currently being recycled
At least shes being revived every generation
She should’ve been made into a museum! A ship this legendary didn’t deserve to be scrapped!
Probably they just want keep reviving her as new ships, I'm fine with that. Imagine in 2025 when she set sail once again in new look. Her name shall lives on.
Agree
when they scrapped her some of her steel was reused in making uss enterprise cv-65 and likely will also be done with the construction of uss enterprise cv-80
She was... but sadly unlucky.
People tried but lacked funding. She was scrapped in the 50s
As long as there are aircraft carriers there will always be a USS enterprise
And long beyond that

Probably the most decorated battle-tested ship in history and yet, in the end, it was tragically scraped as lesser ships went on to be saved and used as pier-side museums.
Pretty sure New Jersey is the most decorated ship in history, but i get your point.
@@angrysquirrel8816 The New Jersey was opsoleate when it was built. Although she served for many years it was never the decisive factor in any battle. I was on a ship that escorted the New Jersey to Beirut in 1983.
@@angrysquirrel8816 CV-6 USS Enterprise received the most battle stars of any US Navy warship in history. It was also the first aircraft carrier to receive the coveted 'E' for efficiency award. Until the Enterprise got it, it was only handed out to Battleships, and some cruisers. The Enterprise was the single most decorated ship in all of WW2. Period.
All of the Iowa Class battleships have been preserved but yet one Yorktown Class carrier hasn't...
@@Aftermath779 To be fair Enterprise was the only survivor.
This ship should never have been scrapped.
A national disgrace, but not surprising...throughout history there are countless examples of courage by the warrior class and the civilians could care less until THEY are in danger...
Indeed a huge shame and that's an understatement.
Agreed . . . they could have MOSTLY scrapped her. Just gutting her really, take off the bridge and the internals and keep the hull on land.
It is a shame, but I don’t think lucky E herself would like to just sit there, rusting away and not being in the fight, it was what the enterprise was, a fighter and a survivor, and I find it poetic that she went out this way, and so she could pass on her name, so that the name “Enterprise” may never be forgotten, and can continue on for hopefully generations to come

The many Enterprises of Earth's (And in the future, the Federation's).
Typical of the History channel to fail to mention why the anti-aircraft fire aboard US and Allied ships were so deadly. The Allies had developed a VT fuze which was a proximity fuze that emitted a radio signal like a radar unit and able to detect the returns when the signal bounces off an aircraft. When an AA round gets close enough to a target, it detonates so it does not have to make a direct hit to damage or destroy an aircraft. The technology was so secret it was not de-classified until the 1960's.
Fascinating info. Thanks for posting it.
In Eastern Solomons and Santa Cruz in both battles both Enterprise and her screening warships including battleships South Dakota and North Carolina gave fierce AA fire, when Japanese pilots made it back they were so stunned of the volume of AA fires of US ships that they had chills

Yorktown got sunk
While the great CV-6 is lost to history, the name Enterprise will live on. CVN-65 is being dismantled, but her steel is being recycled into new steel for the new CVN-80. Like a Phoenix, Enterprise will rise out of the ashes of the Newport News shipyard, born from the body of her predecessor

Her crew called her a "Lucky ship". Without wishing to detract from her glory, she was in a rain squall when the USS Yorktown suffered her mortal damage.
That was Hornet CV-8 during Guadalcanal, a surprise squall covered the Enterprise at the precise moment the strike flight from Shokaku and Zuikaku arrived.
Yorktown CV-5 sank during Midway, her fatal hit was from a submarine.
American Carriers had amazing capacity, but you have to give the British carriers their due on armor. Kamikazes were often just an inconvenience to the British, not a catastrophe. But at the same time, more planes = more offense, recon, and defense.

Enterprise vs. Japan. I cannot even imagine what it must have felt like on the Enterprise knowing that you are on the last remaining carrier in the Pacific. They must have been ECSTATIC when the Essex carriers started rolling out of drydock.
Which Enterprise is the next question.
AIO UA-camr TV the Cv 6 one
@@bryannguyen85 CV-6, the only one.
On the other hand, the crew did put up that "Enterprise vs. Japan" banner of their own volition. I guess it's kind of like how no WW2 vet of the 101st Airborne will ever admit they needed saving at Bastogne, by Patton or anyone else.
When CVN-80 is finally commissioned, we'll have the 3rd USS Enterprise and the spirit of the Big E will continue to serve us. What a legacy that name has.

Signal: USS Enterprise vs the Empire of Japan...
Dated a woman who's father flew Wildcats/Hellcats. He told me that you had to be gentle with the throttle of the Hellcat. Paraphrasing, "so much power you wondered if it would flip the plane". When he came back from the Pacific he flew under the Golden Gate Bridge. His son, Frank Culbertson, also a Navy pilot and was a Commander of the Space Shuttle.
It was the brute power of the R-2800 that made the Hellcat and the other planes using that engine so deadly in the sky.
I wonder what he would have said if he had a chance to fly the F7F Tigercat, which had TWO R-2800's!
Im English and i wish i could have seen this ship 20 battle stars awarded and she was scrapped what a shame she was not preserved for the future generations because I think she earnt it may her name be always honoured
One of the biggest what ifs in history, what if the Enterprise had been in port at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7 as scheduled and not delayed a day by a storm? 🤯
Seriously, she'd have gone the way of the Arizona. It was a fantastic stroke of luck for America that none of its flattops were in Pearl Harbor for the Japanese to sink.
I used to watch this with my dad.. I still have the series on DVD. Might just pop it on today
This is history and we shouldn’t let this die out.
I hope I live to see a space faring Enterprise(yes, I've even touched the TRW shuttle).
It's extremely impressive the technology they developed 80 years ago. Radar guided AA
Radar-guided main guns, too. The British used radar-guided guns on HMS Duke of York to sink the German battleship Scharnhorst, while the Americans used radar-guided guns to sink the battleship Fuso at Surigao Strait.
The Big E deserves a TV series like Band of Brothers!
Ah yes the “number 3 target” to IJN, (along with US Battleship and Cruiser), behind the important target Allies Merchant Ships and Henderson Field.

“ let make sure history never forgets the name, enterprise”
Yostar: Say no more~
Like Tom Baker telling someone that he is "THE Doctor", the CV-6 is "THE Enterprise".
My dad served aboard Enterprise as a TBM pilot in Night Torpedo Squadron 90 December 1944-May 1945.. Enterprise has 20 of a possible 22 battle stars, more than any ship in history. She only missed the Coral Sea battle because she was escorting Hornet on the Doolittle raid and was out of position. She sank 3 of the 6 Japanese carriers that attacked Pearl Harbor. Most people who served on Enterprise said that she had a soul and was more than just a collection of steel parts.
Thank you so much for sharing your information. I didn't know all that stuff you commented about. I didn't get told about my Dad being on The Enterprise . He never talked about that stuff. He told my son about it right before he passed away. When my son told me , I cryed.😢

Further, the Big E garnered the acclaimed Presidential Unit Citation and the rare distinguished British Admiralty Pennant. Epitome of teamwork.
There were a lot of ships that got scrapped that should not have. At the time, no one seemed to think it important or a priority sadly.
