I was sitting in the section to the left of the singer. What a memorable moment and a wonderful version of the song. It was great for all to join hands and sing together. I took many great photos during this and the Track & Field events.
I met Vicky McClure, who was later known as Vicky d o n e y, in the Airbnb I stayed in last night. She was a joy. A life filled with great music and great stories. I don't think I've had so much fun in an Airbnb. He played change the world on the piano for me and sang along. Now I have a memory that's even better than the Eric Clapton cover in phenomenon
I;d love to meet her. this performance was so great . Im surprised that the network TV shows didn't sign her up for appearances ?????? vicke knocked it out of the park this night. Im so happy for her. Do you know where she is performing lately ? She was in the Pocono Mountains in Pa. and was in NY at a Jazz club performing , but if you know Please respond , Id love to see her perform and maybe meet her
1984 thirty years ago I was a school boy and I saw this ceremony at tv , really liked me... so many memories of these good days... thanks for posting steamboatism
This is great! I was one of the 2,000 people in the multinational parade/choir that you see ringing the field. It was an amazing experience to be part of this!
Thanks for posting this. I was part of the choir. I remember Diana Ross was supposed to sing the solo, she didn't show, so the citrus college student was chosen to sing it last minute
Ahh that explains it. You could tell she was nervous at the beginning, so that makes sense if it was a last minute thing. My sister was somewhere in the clip from Sydney so I'm glad this was uploaded.
This is the first time I have seen this without commercials and without Peter Jennings and Jim McKay speaking incessantly. I wish the entire opening ceremony would be posted.
@@steamboatism That would be wonderful! I was so disgusted with the ABC coverage: talk, talk, talk, and commercial after commercial. Please let me know if you upload it. I assume you have the international feed.
@Richard Simonton I just now published Part One (the first 2 hours) of the entire opening ceremonies. I will post the other half in a day or two. Hope you enjoy it. ua-cam.com/video/AUcWCWGMlFw/v-deo.html
@@kascnef Yes it was, the stereo soundtrack could have been recorded from FM radio and synced with the video. Stereo TV sound had not come into being in 1984, then again it's possible that they were developing or testing it then.
Trying to count how many fireworks they used in the last fireworks of the opening ceremonies. There were about 400-500 salute blasts (probably 8 to 10 inch ones), and then, finally, peony blasts (probably 80-100 rockets more, probably 12-16 inchers), and it was all over for the fireworks. It was something like a "reverse grand finale" in some way or another. The music that accompanied the fireworks, "Seventy-Six Trombones", was perfect for those background explosions, because the musical, "The Music Man", from which the song came from, was something like an all-American musical.
Where have you been? For so long I have been searching for a copy (taping) of these absolutely fabulous and fantastic Olympic Games! These particular Olympic Games personify the spirit, camaraderie, and FRIENDSHIP of the ideals and motto of the Olympics!!! Very memorable , very endearing ,very charming-that was the L.A. Games of 1984!!!! Please contact me and Thank you for posting!!!!!
Great Job , Vicki you were terrific . I think the story from Al Michaels said that your were working at a Supermarket packing groceries. Is that true ? Looking forward to seeing you at the Deer head Inn
Hello and thank you. Do you have to entire opening show or can you point us in the right direction? Many people would like to have a copy of this show. I remember it fondly. Thanks, again.
Los Angeles 1984 was the greatest opening ceremony of the 20th. Century!
No, it was not. Moscow, Seoul and Barcelona were far better. Los Angeles 84 was tacky, cheap and sentimental.

Nikad više tako divne godine kao što je bila 1984!

I was in LA during that summer olympics of 1984. This clip brought sweet memories of that particular visit. Thank you for posting.

So Diana Ross did not show up at the Olympics? OMG
Organizers did not want big stars to take away the limelight of the athletes - thats why Diana Ross was not invited.

I have the entire opening ceremonies--four hours--with no commentary, just as you saw for the finale. I'll try to figure out how to upload it.

@@steamboatism This is terrific, thank you so much. I’ve been wanting to see this since 1984!
Thank you for posting part 2. I wanted to leave a comment there, but the comments were turned off.
This was the opening ceremony, the flame was just lit.
So beautiful ""Touch some body hand""song
Today that's crime and that way hand of guns touching....
Added bonus is that this one is in stereo (!), it was one of the nicest moments of the 1984 Opening Ceremony 😊
was it in mono on tv

Oh yeah, I guess that's why it says "Opening Finale".
Apparently in Pennsylvania. Search Vicki Doney.
