I Lost my job so I flipped stuff online: Month 1

  • One month ago, I started to try and challenge my self seeing how much money I could make flipping my way up from free items. However only two days into the challenge, I lost my employment as actually needed to make it work to get by.

My ebay: I purposely don’t share my eBay, I only sell niche products not things most people are interested in. Whenever I make a video people track down my eBay, PLEASE DONT. As a result sales always drop off (I believe this is because eBay sees a bunch of views and no sales so thinks I have nothing worth buying). I appreciate the support and thank you for your understanding. If you want to reach out feel free to send me an email, I’ll gladly respond! Thank you!

Bro, this is exactly what I did when Covid hit. I was a self employed handyman/carpenter, and the phone quit ringin'...so I took $40 bucks to a thrift store, about 2 weeks worth of research and some dogged determination. 4 years in & I'm netting about 50K yearly with a solid 80K worth of inventory. I'm a one-man show and it's all been done with cash.
You've definitely got some editing chops cuz this video is f*ckin' FIRE and really well made! And your sourcing strategies are impressive, too! So keep at it, bro, cuz you're killin' it!! Can't wait for month 2!!

@@mycrazylife408 I sell mostly hard goods, with a few exceptions. Pretty much anything that meets my margin/sell-through criteria that I'm comfortable storing/shipping. There are categories that I tend to avoid, unless the margins are on the moon, just because they're more trouble than I care to deal with. I also offer free returns, so that also plays into sourcing decisions as well. And I'm in the SE Tennessee area.

As a fellow flipper, the biggest problem with eBay is the scammers and their loose dispute process, which always favors the buyer. They can literally just lie and get a refund.

Side story: I had friends who were remodeling their main bath and asked if I could paint it for them. I asked what they were going to do with the really nice pedestal sink and the good quality toilet. They said that they were going to throw them out. That's when I offered to paint the bathroom for free if i could have the old pieces. They said "SURE!". Saves us from having them hauled away. I then asked for the mirror and light bar and got them. The only things left were the towel bars, so naturally, got them, too. All together, I scavenged over $4,000 worth of bathroom pieces that look absolutely AMAZING in my own home and all it cost me was two hours time to paint! Although polished brass is not in vogue right now, they're super high quality and one day, they may come back! Meanwhile, everything works and looks great IMO. So, you never know. One man's trash is another man's treasure. Good job! LOVED THE VIDEO. A true entrepreneur!!

12:08 I've been a buyer/seller on eBay for 19 years. This advice that you dropped is worth its weight in gold. Some people want to just throw stuff up on eBay and make money without communicating with people. Some sellers actually get offended when you ask them to post a better picture or if you email them more than once because they didn't answer the first time. They have a *_"just give me your money and leave me alone"_* type of attitude. That is *not* how you make money on eBay. I am not a people person, but if you ask me a question about something I have for sale, I make damn sure to answer you within 12 hours. $1800 in one month? That's great! I could cover my bills with $1800 and go to the food pantry for my meals. It beats going to work.
By the way, you did some good click-bait work with your thumbnail. Congrats on going viral.

      @Analog_money  2 місяці тому

YES! Exactly, sometimes you can get a feeling someone will be a problem should you transact with them. So that’s another reason that messages are good, however most people have only a small hesitation between them buying your listing or moving on

    And a tip:
Any time a buyer says they're going to leave negative feedback if you don't refund them, just tell them to ship the item back and report them to eBay. This is considered feedback extortion and is against eBay policies.

Take it from a guy who has been doing this for 12 years...invest in your own size boxes. I sold 1500 items in 2022 and having the perfect sized boxes and a label printer is ideal. Of course there are items that are bigger and you may have to customize them...but I am an expert at that with some tape and a cutter now. Just some cuts and folds of bigger boxes and wala there you go. I put this aside and been doing more part-time in 2023 (of course 2022 was also part-time with 40 hour desk job) but I am close to losing my job so this may become another near-full-time job moving forward. Stay postiive and positive things will happen.

Dude don’t give up, what you are doing will grow organically. You are doing great.
I’m a realtor in 2008 I started listing things on eBay. It got me through some hard times. One thing that helped was that I use to own a independent Porsche shop and had a bunch of New Old Small parts inventory, I also had a bicycle shop and had a couple of bikes that I had never sold. I listed the bikes on eBay, with no response. I took the bikes apartment and sold the parts individually gear sets, brakes, cranks… I sold everything I had. I sold a bunch of vintage motorcycle and car stickers… keep on selling you are doing awesome!

I have been selling for 12ish years to help pay for school and studied what works best. Seems to be the 8-9 offer time frame, 930 auctions ending on Friday-Sunday, with Sunday being the BEST day, and also 5 minimum items per day. If you are overloaded and can do more than 5 good, but typically 5 a day is good enough. If you slip up on this so will the sales.

You know what's also a good side flip hustle. Look for auctions. Not those big internet auctions that auction random stuff from people, but the more local ones. Those auction stuff from companies that went bankrupt and often they sell the stuff from stores that went bankrupt. They will put the store inventory on auction very cheap and if the inventory is huge and outweighs the amount of people putting bids. Or there are multiple store inventory auctions. It will become very easy to pick up cheap and good stuff like computers, tv's, etc. Stuff that resells easy.

Amazingly inspirational video and even more incredible FIRST MONTH results. To make $1800 in profit in your first month with zero prior experience running an online resell gig AND have almost 15k of inventory stashed up with under a thousand bucks initial investment is insanely good.
Yes, it was a ton of work. But like you said, its a marathon 😊 and thankfully, no annoying boss to answer to!! (Except the customer lol)
Great work and I wish you MANY more months and years of peace and success. God bless you brother.
P.s. don't forget to send up a daily prayer to the Most High, He will continue to sustain you ❤

What an awesome start to your first month of reselling. I've been reselling books, and then other media for almost 10 years. I remember the uncertainty of sending in my first box of books to Amazon, and being shocked when I actually sold some of them. I stuck to selling what I know about and enjoy, so props to starting out selling items you didn't know too much about.
