Wow, excellent talk (and thanks Christine for posting)! Super informative and super helpful. I wouldn't want to contact them for information or advice, but just to say that was a great talk! You guys are awesome and your Hex Room has been on my list of 'must do' rooms next time I'm in Anaheim.
Thank you) It is very informative for those who want to do the escape room business . We also make escape rooms all over the world. For myself, I derived the main rule of success - a thoughtful scenario. It simplifies the very creation of the escape room, and brings pleasure to the players.
As always, love the video's you post up Christine. I have a question for you on this video. I'm hoping you know since these guys don't want to field questions. Don't be afraid, it's not about any of the business stuff...I got that covered. What I want to know is about something they said right at the beginning. They talked about being a set designer and a theater artist. My question is, how do you find people like that? I'm sure you can't throw a stick without hitting 20 starving artists in California but in other parts of the country (Like Dallas area for me) where are the people that can pump up how the games look set wise? I myself am a game designer and engineer. I design the games and puzzles, build props, and maintain the rooms. But I'm not a visual artist. Where are all the artist hiding?????
Eli Lane, the is an escape room in Albuquerque called nmescaperoom.com, they will design sets for you. Also you can buy interactive props from FrightProps.com. I live in Oklahoma City and go to various escape rooms. The owner at this one was very helpful and informative. If you don’t find anyone, I would give these guys a call.
I'm surprised no one pointed out the 9,000 lb gorilla in the room which is...why is it accepted as legitimate for cities to require so many ridiculous and unnecessary hoops to jump through to start a business? So many of these regulations that sound like they were started with good intentions for safety actually don't do much to increase the safety of the business and those using it, such as the inefficient time delays on permit approvals for nothing more than the city's own laziness and inspectors who really aren't doing anything significant in their inspections...doesn't sound like safety is the actual motivation behind the rules. I hope many people who experience this endless and pointless red tape in their municipalities consider protesting such rules and regulations at their city council meetings. As these folks pointed out, the city councils are totally ignorant of our business and so it seems really wrong that they would be in charge of making decisions about it and basically preventing economic development of small businesses and keeping people from making a living and increasing their debt for no reason.
This was fantastic! Thank you so much for recording and sharing this!
