2004 Jetta TDI Timing Belt Part 1

Car is coming up on 300K service and thought I would share some information on how to perform the timing belt service on this car. You can do this in a few hours and for about 1/5 of what the dealers in my area charge to do this service.

I got a shop to do it for 740.00 plus tax and that includes them changing the water pump (I think). but thanks for taking the time to show us how to do this.

Are the Tdi diesel engines easy to work on in our parts widely available

Honestly, very easy engine and car to work on. Most parts you will need t order; 1stvwparts.com, ecstuning.com, fcpeuro.com ex examples. Also become member of tdiclub.com for information when needed to do the repairs.

+ggenovez I may not be real fast and I made sure I have the day to work on it. It takes me about 4.5 hours. I also check myself by turning the crank twice, checking and turning twice again just to make sure. But not hard and in my area, dealer charges $1600 including water pump.
