Painting a Baby Bass Pattern

  • In this video I show how I paint a Baby Bass pattern using a 2.5 Square Bill Stencil I got from Sugartit Custom Lures. I basically just used 4 different colors and keep it pretty simple. The Stencil is awesome and even though it's a little pricy at $22.00 it will allow me to paint an untold number of lures going forward and have good repeatable results. I will be keeping one of these for myself and will be taking the other 2 down to my buddy Bobby's Shop to put on the Tackle Wall and see if they sell. If you're interested in my lures I have decided to ask $10.00 each and not the $12.00 as I said in the video and will ship anywhere in the US for $5.00. Sorry but shipping to Canada runs over $15.00 so it will be on an actual cost to ship basis.
    Thanks for watching
    And as always.......Peace

These turned out great brother, I like this style of lure and the template for the pattern is pretty sweet as well. I can see you doing very well with these lure sales.
    I love it.
Thanks for taking the time to share this with us and I look forward to seeing the next set you do. I am like you, I get my stuff out and do several at a time now, I try to do a min of 9 if not more, I sell the jigs in packs of 3 so I try to tie in multiples of three, makes it go quicker doing them that way in my mind. Same for your lures, each time you change paint colors, is time etc. Thanks for taking the time to share this and I hope you have a blessed week.

Thanks Dale ! I for quite a while I was doing 3 at a time so that the patterns were easier to duplicate, I recently picked up another set of helping hands and am now trying to do 4 at a time because like you said, each color change takes time and time is too precious to waste.
Have a great rest of your week, it’s hump day ! Hahaha ….. is hump day even a thing for us old retired guys any more ? Hahahaha.

Thanks Lance , he’s been selling a few down there but I’ve been selling more just via word of mouth and to some friends. Love the pics the guy who won the Fire Tiger, Sean up in Calgary Alberta caught some nice pike on his lure this weekend too gonna do a quick video later and high light the pics if you’re ok with that.

Nice job Don. I'll bet that new stencil will save some time and make that process easier.

Thanks Craig ! Those stencils are great for being able to have a good repetitive process. Love em !

Boy, they look awesome Don! That stencil will be worth it in the end. Funny thing... when you were rotating that one, I could see that small imperfection, and I was asking myself if you noticed it. Right after I saw it, you said you were going to keep that one. Your quality control is spot on🤣 Anxious to see someone catch a fish on one of these. Have you tried one out yet on the kayak?

Thanks Ryan ! I’m loving those form fitting stencils , definitely make painting patterns much easier and being able to consistently repeat the pattern is what I am looking for. I’m more of a color between the lines kinda guy than a true artist 😬As for those imperfections, I’m really trying to put out a good looking product and do not want to sell something that has a flaw so I’ll either keep those ones for myself or totally repaint them prior to putting on the epoxy. I have thrown a couple of my lures but have not caught anything on them yet. This weekend I will be throwing a few different ones from the kayak and am hoping to get some action.

Hi Don, Sean at Angling Spiders sent me over your way.
I wondered if you got blank lures or painted old ones (recycled them). I got my answer.
    Nice work!

Thanks Dan ! I wasn’t sure if I wanted to keep painting lures on my other “Buck Tales Outdoors” channel but got so much going on this summer I really thought it best to separate the painting from the other outdoor activities. Thanks for coming over and joining me here as well. If you have any other questions about lure painting let me know, I will always answer…..to the best of my limited knowledge. ✌️
