Exact opposite where I live. We see people fired then rehired in the nursing home I'm at because we are extremely short staffed . So people we can't stand rotate back.

I’m 40 and have been dealing with it from the 30 to 60-something year olds over the course of the last 5 years. It’s literally like an extension of high school with them. And just like back then, I’m a lone wolf most of the time! Clock in, speak, turn on my Bluetooth & work while listening to podcasts/preaching/music on, clock out.

I used to work with this lady who was just nosey. She would lurk around my office all day even though she worked in a different department and always asking me questions about my personal life. Mind you, she was extremely private about her business. She sent me a Facebook request and I blocked her. When she came to work the next day her face was tight and I couldn’t care less 😂

I had a co-worker like that. Always wanted to know what was going on playing people against each other.
She ratted out some of my co workers about something they said about the boss. Didn’t go over well. The moment she was moved to a different department it was as if the clouds lifted and the sun started to shine.
People also treated me a lot better. It took me a moment that they thought for months I was the snake due to the actual snake because I just got along with management. She got fired in the end when she burned through departments after departments.

I have been screwed over so many times by coworkers and bosses that I made a promise to myself from their on i would never mix business and pleasure ever again. And I have stuck that boundary ever since. I made that promise to myself 4 years ago. Th same day that happened I started a new job. I am known at the b at work because I refuse to go to any work events or engage in any small talk with my coworkers. I am kind and cordial but I don’t go the extra mile in getting to know anyone at work. Anytime there is a work project I always request to work alone. It has worked out wonderfully for me because it keeps me out of the workplace drama and it has helped me with my mental health. People do talk about me a lot but that is there issue not mine.

I was like that as the only black woman store manager. Any out of town meetings I drove myself and went straight to my room after the meeting. I NEVER answered any phone calls or knocks at the door. They would say the company was paying for dinner at a restaurant. I’d order my food sit for a few minutes and excuse myself to the restroom get my food to go and leave 😂. It was too darn chaotic for me! It’s worse now that I work in healthcare. The nurses are horrible to each other! I only work part time now and homeschool my daughter.
My Dad always told me - go to work, get paid and go home. I will never go to bat for anyone at work or discuss workplace issues with folks ever again. People try to pump you up to make points or bring up issues to mgmt that they’re too afraid to stand up and say themselves. 👏
I have my fair share of backstabbing friends at work…people who I invited to my home and to family events. Never again! I’m still traumatized

My last job never missed a day and the new GM was throwing his weight around while using the company's credit card for unauthorized purchases. He unjustly fired me twenty minutes before my shift ended. I called the health department and reported them. They had to pay a fine. He later was exposed by a fake guest and escorted out by the cops. I was asked to return but they can blow me.

I've never made friends with coworkers. I went to work to make money and that's it. i notice how people moved whenever I start a job. It never failed that they gossipped. I opened my mouth to no one unless I asked a work question. They always tried to be in my personal business.

Every friend I have I found at work 20 years ago except my best friend was my nurse while I was hospitalized. My husbands boss became his best friend and he is like an older brother to me. His wife made all of my meals after cancer surgery and their daughter house sits for us. We lucked out.

That's why i hate working in the office. Messy office politic snakes. One particular messy hating snake (JT) brain almost exploded because I changed 1 way I did something. I did it on purpose to see how fragile the snakes brain was, and it drove the snake so insane it had to slither around and complain to other departments about it. The snake also wanted to complain loud enough for me to hear it. Very insecure, unprofessional, smooth brain snake.

I was treated horribly working at six flags. One of the guys I worked with threatened me. Racial remarks against many females, intimidation, talking behind you back. Plus the security guards, supervisors. They treat every girl differently based on their looks. They will not notice anyone if they are not appealing to them.
Honestly, I've learned that some of us have just been raised with biases that hinder us later on in settings such as school, workplaces, etc. I learned not to take shyt so personal even if the person wants it to be. Unless im on the chopping block, what you feel about me is none of my concern. I will be treated with respect, period...and if not, I'm gone. Go where your valued not tolerated.

Im the only gay man at work so people automatically thought I was going to be poppy, extroverted and a tea spiller. Im the exact opposite, I stay to myself and focus on work.So many coworkers and customers alike have made comments about how reserved I am. That told me I’m doing exactly what i need to do. My position is solitary and they still try to squeeze anything they can out of me during shift exchange. I ask them to get straight to business before they even have the chance to ask anything now 😂

She broke my trust in the beginning after I confined in her and it got back to manager. I just only ask questions and keep it work -related. Gossip is toxic.

I did have this person that we became really good friends I considered her my sister. When I was getting laid off she helped me get a job. I was so depressed and annoyed with the job so I started complaining about what I was feeling. Well apparently I was the dummy because she was telling my manager AND my managers manager what was being said. I ended up catching on and stop talking to her about work. FUNNY THING IS SHE HAD NOTHING TO GAIN SHE WAS QUITTING!!!! from then on I never got to close to a coworker after that.

So understandably I was not jumping for joy at starting over. At one of my meetings it was revealed that I thought I could be a better manager. That’s when I knew.
I made friends at almost every job I ever held. Still friends to this day after 20 years and a gazillion jobs further.
But, I’ve also had my fair share of snakes though. I’m not that trusting any more to new co workers.

I had a manager tell me, " I'm a child of God. I said so was Satan and never associated with her or the team leads. I'm so glad I ended up leaving that job and got another one. There is no such thing as workplace friendships. If I don't speak to you outside of work, please keep your distance. I've been burned too many times trying to establish relationships at work, and now I'm very unapproachable. I'm never nasty, but they know don't try the idle conversations with me.

I met my now only friend from work. We’ve attended each others weddings and functions. She’s an amazing person. We don’t work together anymore and still keep up. One main thing I've come to do of late with co-workers is, no matter what they disclose about themselves to the work team or me individually be it what they're going to do on their time off or things about their household, I MAKE IT A POINT NOT to ask any questions and/or follow up questions about it. WHY? It's because I don't want them to ask me ANYTHING personal in return. One day while I was in the room alone with the trainer (which I dread being alone with a manager or trainer because they want to start in on asking personal questions) she asked, "So... do you have any little ones?" My response was a one response "No." Do I have kids? Yes... I actually do... but I didn't lie either... they're not "little." Lol, my kids are age 22 and 17 going on 18. The thing is, those questions would lead down to more questions... "Oh ok how old are your kids?" "What? How old are you?" "Wow...and you're married? How long have you been married for?" Yeah... I just don't want to bother. If it comes to that, I'd rather be as bold yet pleasant as one co-worker that I worked with elsewhere was by responding "Well, I don't like talking about my personal life." Really, unless it's something trivial like the fact that I like shoes though even those "You're always dressed up and all your shoes... how many pairs of shoes do you have?" I laugh it off and give a "thank you" response.

I have 1st shift workers that are haters I don't care they respect the way I operate. We still have to win together and get this money. You don't have to like me but we are going to be a team to get the job done. I do not put my emotions in business and let emotions get in the way of my paper.

I sit in a storage room (by choice) with a solid wooden door. Only a few people have a key to the door which I keep closed most of the day. People always say, "You know you can come outside and sit with us, arent you lonely?"My response is, "Why, I have a solid wooden door, snacks and podcasts"! I do my time and bounce.

I was lucky I made a really good friends from one of my jobs. But most of them were merely acquaintances. I even met my ex husband at my job. But you need to be careful, I've experienced some real crappy people on some of my jobs. It's basically a crap shoot.
I’m polite to my coworkers and colleagues but I don’t talk to them about anything that I care about getting back out. I discuss my career goals and such but I don’t trust any of them.
Just have to be careful with these people

I was the new person at work and bc I worked hard I notice how everyone stops working for me to do the work.. after a month of doing that.. I was burnt and told the boss.. he told me “DONT SAY ANYTHING ILL HANDLE IT”…. Then he told my coworkers what I said.. I was seen as the hater but in all actually I wanted a group meeting to tell them directly

The only time i recommend having a work friend is when you work for a huuuge organization and you befriemd someone from a completely different department. That person must also not be affiliated with your people. If you're in IT, get a friend in marketing etc. dont befriend people who might want your spot.

I shared nothing about my personal life. They all ganged up on me, including the higher ups, they sabotaged my work (coworkers and supervisor), searched my work area whenever I went to the restroom, tried to unlock my bag (yes, I had to lock my bag), smeared my name in office and on the street. They befriended a toxic neighbor who to this day video tapes me whenever I go outdoors to share with them and (who also sends her friends to stalk me whenever I'm outdoors). These beings are so vicious and focused on me that, I have on occasion observed them parked across the street from my home, waiting for me to come outside. They don't live in my neighborhood. On the street, strangers smirk whenever they see me and drop comments about things that occurred during my workdays. I escaped that cesspool and they had the audacity to reach out inviting me to come back!!!

Yes and the one thing that irritates me about some work environments is those ridiculous "team building exercises" when management ask those stupid general yet personal questions namely the infamous "So tell us about yourself and what you like to do?" My response has been just discussing the different departments I worked in within the same sector before transferring to current department.... WORK RELATED. Anything personal like "What does everyone have planned for the weekend?" My response "Nothing" OR I mix it up with "Nothing much... maybe just the usual catching up on rest and errands." For all they know, I am going to an evening event or taking a road trip to a different state or shopping myself silly for more stylish clothes I like to wear to the office... and then I'd come back on Monday ready for the "How was your weekend? What did you do?" questions with my response being "Fine... nothing" In order to get managers to stop asking all together I've said "I don't do much... I'm just pretty laid back and boring."
In my workplace we are busy doing actual work, no time for such nonsense.

Sometimes, I feel like I'm the only person around who is sane and respectful to other people. I have a coworker that loves to use the word 'Team'. Hey Team. Team update. Team this, team that, but as soon as someone asks her for help her go to response is "nope, I can't" and speed walks away. I've stopped talking to her, she's needy AF and uses any excuse to look over your shoulder to snoop.

This is exactly what happened to me before I was fired from my housekeeping job. The head housekeeper and a laundry attendant were acting all sweet when I first started working there, then soon after I came back from a NorthStarBoys concert that's when everything went down, I was doing good during training then about a week later I hear from a coworker that I'm being talked about, I was trying to do my job and keep my cool, then before I was fired, I learned that I was being set up when I was given some rooms to do by myself and I haven't finished training, so so messed up and it had me crying

Backstabbing has been going on in the workplace for decades.
Most learn this the hard way and with years of experience. I work in corporate, I’m hybrid. The 3 days I come in do my work and leave at 5! I have 1 friend at current job. I do surface level chit chat with other coworkers. It’s a balancing act. In addition to the code switching black ppl have to do. I don’t trust em ESPECIALLY the mayo kind.

I worked at this place for about 2 1/2 years in my mid to late 20s and experienced the most betrayal ive ever been through in my life. I mean several examples but it taught me valuable lessons.
