Our defensive the 2nd half of the season has really hinder us the lack of defensive strength when cross and corners coming in is concerning.I feel our attack was pretty good today Ollie getting in some really position but definitely optimistic for the 2nd leg we need play a masterclass and just pray the players under the fight in which is needed we are still in this UTVV❤
l look at it this way Luke, if lf Villa can win when not playing well then we are most definitely in with a good chance. Lille are a very good side but l like this competition coming up against stoic well drilled sides who make it a good game, this is what European football is all about Luke.
In the return leg in France if we stay tight Villa will win the game ...

We have to win in France. If we attempt to hold on we’ll likely lose. Biggest difference between now and pre Xmas is our lack of control in games. Possession stats, pass accuracy, chances conceded etc always high now. But we still look deadly up top. Let’s just take it as a one off knockout game that Emery has specialised in over the years and take the win in their back yard UTV

To many players hiding. Luiz and Tielemans were ghosts, Bailey just constantly gave the ball away. It’s going to be a tough game at their ground. We need to be on it because we just look a shadow of ourselves, we had chances be its like their all on a different wavelength , some of the decisions up front were mind blowing. Emi saves us in this one.
We really miss Kamara in midfield. Teams have been dominating us in the middle of the park.
We need to play Diaby and Bailey in the second leg so we don’t sit back.

Being dominated because he persists with bloody Tilemens in CM, he just can't do it. Need to get mcginn back in there for his energy and aggression, he sets are tempo and gets on the ball more.I don't like him in th 10 at all

Not only are they a good side but they are well rested and will be rested again for the next leg and we still go and get the win while we have to play game after game. Watkins normally clears the near post from corners so that goal is a problem tbh if he was in then we dont let that in

Yeah it's the English to German results that give the biggest coefficient swings. Hope Arsenal can beat Munich and for English teams to win the CL and ECL. EL looks like it's gone.

In some ways I would prefer thatm were in no way ready for Champions league competition yet. We conceed to many from set pieces.

I really enjoyed the match and thought they were a really good side. I don't think we should go there and try and defend deep and play cagey or we'll get destroyed. We're not capable of defending like that at the moment. I think we should be brave and go for it. Grab the first goal and I think they will get desperate and that will leave big gaps for us to expose. They couldn't live with Ollie at times.
We need McGinn back in the double pivot and Diaby up front with Bailey. Digne offered very little going forward, Carlos needs to practice passing.

Why would you get excited at 2-0 but feel so depressed after 2-1???? As if 2-0 would've meant Villa were comfortable in France. If Lille scored first tonight and we came roaring back to win 2-1 you'd be elated. Score another goal next TH and don't concede. It's all mental strength at this point. We'll see what Villa are made of and if Watkins' warning about not seeing out games was heeded.

We just won the first leg of the quarter final, away goals don’t count like before, so providing we don’t loose by 2 goals or more then we go through, need some perspective because we have had enough time in the dumps, if we get knocked out next week we go again next season, yes would be disappointing but we are managing 2 competitions with few players, imagine kamara playing last night? Morning Luke, Justin - performance was far from our best and we have them too many chances through basic positioning errors and Emi kept us in it. Poor ref, apparently yellow cards only come out for Villa players…. And penalty shout was spot on….! We can win in France but will be tough.

A positive for me is we didn’t play that well last night but still won the game largely thanks to Martinez.

Lille were decent son, think that was a great result. Last 8 of a European competition all teams are decent, Emi kept us in the game for sure! We definitely need to score over there to stand a chance, but it's 'squeaky bum' time. That said, i think that we have had the best result of all English teams in Europe this week....UTV

Im fairly confident we can manage to hold them the next leg with a full squad but because we dont have a full squad we need clever player rotation.
Luiz suspension means he will be fresh for the 2nd leg so we have that going for us. Need to manage the game time for diaby and bailey. Our left side without ramsey is a bit weak defensively so we need to mitigate that potentially by playing mcginn there instead.

One massive factor for us is how Unai learns about an opponent over two legs. Some of the mistakes we were making tonight will be ironed out. And I am really happy about the win. They are a great team in incredible form and we managed to find a way to beat them. That’s what it’s about.

i think we Villa fans are getting jittery for these last several important games of the season. we aren't used to being in this position, i guess. BRASH CONFIDENCE is the order of the day. we've got this thing. and 4th in the PL too. visualize victory. we see it. so be it. UP THE VILLA.
The Villa from earlier in the season has been decimated by injuries since December but particularly the defensive side. We’ll score in Lille , we just need to work on the defensive side particularly set pieces.
Goes without saying we would all rather be 2-0 up than at 2-1 BUT given we have blown 2 goal leads in the past, maybe going there 2-1 isn’t going to give us the chance to go there and accidentally relax too much ( or whatever it is that causes us to blow these leads)… we just have to go there and focus and do the job. Will be tough but not impossible

We're too slow and ponderous. They played with zip and tempo. We lack aggression and athletes in our team. Luiz was poor again and tmans isnt mobile enough. Rogers isnt a starter yet as the game passes him by. He also lacks presence and aggression
I wonder if there's a scenario whereby Villa finish the EPL 5th and the Premier League is behind Bundesliga in coefficient points, Villa are playing the UECL Final and if we win we overtake Bundesliga in coefficient and guarantee 5th is Champions League?

I was there tonight and Honestly I didn't see the game.the same way, they had a lit of possession but the times they got in behind us were couple of sloppy passes and a couple of unbelievable balls. I feel like we contested middle of the park well for long periods. And I feel like we found some really clinical balls that cut them open. Yes they had great chances, but with a but more accuracy in final third U feel like we had at least 2 more goals.
Lucky in the end. Up against it. Defence is awful and lack of midfield energy.

Decent enough. Subs were needed but maybe too many too quickly. They made a few too and it made the game less organised.
I do want to pont out though that although he scored his header, Ollie was wasteful tonight. I know he scored and he did have a decent game. I'm not hating on him but plenty of times he could have passed across the box and instead shot in narrow angles. One time he should definitely have turned and shot and he tried a pass that wasn't on.
I know this will get some hate but I'm just being objective. 1 or 2 more and the tie was done.
Not much else to say. It was a professional, smart performance. Took it easy first half. Turned the screws early in the 2nd and then made subs.
Hopefully there's enough left in the tank for Arsenal on Sunday. We did well trying to ensure there is, despite genuinely trying to win the game tonight.

5-0 Shef Utd, beat Fulham away when Utd and Spurs both got beat, just two from top of my head. Even the Man U home game we actually played very well for long periods.
