Awesome video James! 🎬👏Loved the America's cup boat (that thing was huge), kind of a shame/weird to me that it's been on display for 20+yrs and not being sailed tho (or is that an incorrect assumption?).👑⛵ Bruce seems really cool and that SV BOB looks like a really nice boat too.😎😍 Sounds like he's in for an epic passage with some dream destinations ahead of him (Fiji, Guam, JAPAN! and the Aleutians/Alaska).🗾🎎🏯 So stoked for him!😃 I especially love the way you guys pay it forward with the charts🗺...the way the world should work with just about everything, imo.💜 Thank you for sharing your journeys around the world with us!🙏🌏🫶 May fair winds be with you my friend!🌬⛵

It's been a while since I first stumbled upon your channel. It was the episode when you lost your rudder on the way to Hawaii. I don't watch every video but every couple months when the algorithm makes 1 pop up I think "Oh. Yeah it's about time to catch up with where's he's at." Glad to see you're still living the good life bub. Be safe and enjoy. Also thanks so much for sharing because most of us will never have the chance to do this.

I happened to be BC Echo Bay and got a piece of U-wood to make an outboard extension tiller. Great for memories every time I use dingy.

It's been many years since I was last at Marsden Bay (I went to One Tree Point School in the 1970s). Back then there was no Marina there just farm land, I wonder when they dug it out.

Haha I looked away for a moment and then looked back at the screen and saw the mast. I legit thought it was an irrigation unit for a few seconds. Yeah we can tell I've never been on a boat 😂
    I had to share that.

I've been following you since California, but NZ is what I've been waiting for. I sailed the Bay of Islands alone with my girlfriend 20 years ago and went to many of the same spots as you. Also hung with friends in Tutukaka. Hoping you visit Waipu and Whangamata.

In one of your earlier videos, you said you were going to touch on sailors and tattoos. And the connection between the two. I think you mentioned they were the first to have em. Don’t know if you ever talked about that but I would like to know more about that, sounds like an interesting topic!

I haven’t made a tattoo episode yet, tattoos have been around for centuries in various cultures around the world. Sailors brought tattoo culture to the USA and there are many maritime meanings behind classic sailor Jerry style tattoos.

If you go to the Aleutians and it is at all possible, sail through, around, etc. the Islands of the Four Volcanoes. Google it. I don't think there's anything as spectacular in a thousand miles. I was just crew on a boat that sailed across the north Pacific, not even a glimpse of any part of Alaska. Nice to do the distance... but tedious. (And tip. Everything I had stayed dry through rainy days, squalls; high tropical humidity of Vietnam and the Philippines, but when north Pacific fog set in for several days? Everything deep inside sealed lockers, in the middle of my clothes got damp and mildewy. The walls of the boat were streaming water. My dumb mistake was I had with me more than a few dry bags I hadn't used. So stow your clothes and fabrics inside dry bags. They're easy enough to make. I'm planning on making a bunch of lightweight ones to fit outside my plastic clothes baskets on my own boat. Just to keep my clothes from smelling like bilge.. ) Use white or light colors so when I look inside I can see what's in there. )
I've read in a couple places that the New Zealand charts they used during WWII they were made by Captain Cook and his navigators back in the 1770s.
