Appreciate the video! I never get enough of the Palladium Multiverse Lore. GURPS goes a lot of places with magic and there is somethings to be said for flexibility that encourages each GM to customize for their setting.
I always like your videos on Palladium. Fires all the nostalgia buttons. In my opinion, Palladium Revised Edition (black and red cover) is the best version. It's the one I grew up on and it predates all of the "mega damage" stuff. I'm currently running D&D 5e Hardcore Mode, but my campaign setting is Palladium Fantasy, along with a modified version of the magic system.
I agree with you, the Revised Edition is my favorite as well. I feel like it offered a bit more of what I was looking for than 2nd. I might do a comparison video sometime.
@@questwise4077 Yeah, there's just something about the Revised Edition that the second edition lacks. Aside from some of the mechanical changes, the character creation is more grounded (no super wizard at level one) and the world building is more open-ended. Not to mention the bestiary is more complete in the older edition. I would love to see your comparison video on the two.
I started playing RPGs with the exact same games. But Rifts was the game for me. Nightbane has some of the best magic types in palladium. Flesh sculpters...... I have pirated the idea into many other systems. Through the Glass Darkly and Between the Shadows are two of the best rpg books I own period.
Thank you a bunch for these magic videos! I'm figuring out my homemade system, but I need two magic systems. A mental and a spiritual. Your vids are great, I'm subbing.
Whitehack and Knave would be fun to see you expound upon. Or maybe something weird and niche like the magic in Ultra Violet Grasslands. But I would be MOST interested in seeng you tackle the differences and overlaps between Mage: the Ascension and Mage: the Awakening!
I've thought about building my own rpg magic system - I like the idea of building powerful spells by combining building block spells, kind of like magic alchemy. But getting the balance right is tricky. I have newfound respect for D&D's magic system.
That's a great idea and I'd love to see what you come up with if you pursue it further! I, personally, find that balance is a bit easier to do when you start with something super simple and build your way up from there. (For example-and this is just completely random off the top of my head based vaguely on the notion of your "building blocks" idea: Fire always does 1d4 damage, Earth always protects for 1d4 damage, Ice always slows for 1d4 rounds, Air always blows back 1d4 spaces, Water always makes slick 1d4 spaces, etc.) Hopefully that's some vague semblance of help! And best wishes, from one aspiring game designer to another!
@@kota86 I like your four elements idea. So a spellcaster could combine Fire and Air to create a fireball that moves 1d4 spaces & inflicts 1d4 damage. I was thinking something similar - for example, a Push/Pull spell and a Heat/Cool spell, that could be combined in imaginative ways.
Palladium/Rifts megaverse has been my favorite game system since about the time 3e AD&D when I became rather disenchanted with that system and I started trying out a whole lot of other game systems. The magic and psionics in Palladium are a lot superior to the rules in AD&D.
I have been thinking about magic in roleplaying of late and revisited this vid finding that you wonderfully describe many interesting points found in Palladium Fantasy magic. The comments EGG makes in the DMG regarding magic seem to carry more by way of implied explanation than is generally considered by players who often treat the magic system mechanically. I suppose that is true of most - or all - FRP systems. It's been a while since you posted a new video. I think that I recall you wrote that the virus was making its way through your house. Hope you are feeling better and to see you back on UA-cam again. 🙂
I'm excited to see your presentation on CoC and Burning Wheel's magic systems. I'd also like to see one on Warhammer Fantasy, if you would be interested in doing one on that.
Quest Wise, I read in many places on the net that Palladim Role-Playing game ( Palladium fantasy 1e) is superior to Palladium Fantasy 2e. Do you have an opinion on this? If so Would you elaberate ( Maybe you could do a video). Love the videos... keep up the good work
I may be of the minority on this, but I love them both and use them interchangeably quite often. This definitely sounds like an idea that deserves a full video breakdown on why I feel this way. It will be coming your way soon!
Holy crap! i thought I was the only person on the plant that learned how to Roleplay from their cousin using TMNT and Other Strangeness. Hilarious. I then went to Ninjas and superspies, then Heroes unlimited lol.
Palladium is SUCH an ambitious, sprawling multiverse. Great to see you giving it some light!

PS- I grew up in Michigan in the 80s and 90s, the halcyon days of Palladium Fantasy.

Great job Jodie, good description of the system.
Great video! Thanks for all the PB love you put out! Can't wait to hear your thoughts on CoC.

Hey buddy, gentle Cha'alt review reminder... plus, just launched new "Saving Cha'alt" Kickstarter!

I second the request for Warhammer Fantasy!
I love TMNT
I can't wait to play a warlock in PRPG 2e. 😁

Ninjas & Superspies will never die
The most powerful magic in Palladium Fantasy is Diabolism, purely defensive but still the most powerful. Sad to see it get kinda of banned in Rifts
Run a game for Gary Con!
