I see a feel the switch in you. You seem so much happier. Leaving the ridiculous rat race of L.A. the DR is so rich in culture and a different way of life. Im Dominican/ Haitian and my grandmother lives in El Macao. I cant wait to get there. I built a house in Texas last year and I'm miserable personally and professionally. Really considering jumping ship and moving next year. So proud of living your truth. Keep pushing queen! I love to see it.

CONGRATS girl! Take care of your soul! What is the reception of people in the DR towards dark skin Americans? I went to Costa Rica and for the most part, people were nice but I had a few bad experiences with bartenders.
That last quote took me out! Remind me of the "our Rich Journey" youtube channel. Black couple that retired early and live in Portugal now.
TY TY TY... I haven't had too many bad experiences... I feel like for the most part they'll mirror your energy... It's a tourist town so if you're out spending it's usually all good... it's very economical unless your in those lil side shops... there is a tendency to lean more favor toward people who look like tourist i.e lighter white etc but black dollars are huge in DR as well.. so it's been cool... knowing a lil spanishj really helps!!

What are the legalities associated with living and working in a foreign country? This looks very interesting to me!
Good on you for doing what’s best for you.
It varies... but getting a visa or cedula is def a good thing if you plan to work in the country for businesses... I am self employed and currently working on getting a "nomad visa" for videography for a company I plan to freelance with... There are a few ways to work use your visa add more days and pay the "exit fee" if you're not planning to get documentation.
I feel that way about the Bay Area. I make a great salary and live with roommates. I’m having a hard time saving up just to get my own apartment. Which will shackle me down in a way, or force me to make more $.
I just want to live on what I have. I have to get re-centered as I have wanted to live in my car, van, or move abroad like you.
Def. a push for me to pursue the life I want to live. I love my friends, they are amazing, and I am just not happy with my quality of life.
Unsure if you’ve experienced the LGBTQ community, do you find it is homophobic there more or less relative to LA?
Yes I feel you I know so many people in this situation... hopefully you can make a move to offset a major change. I haven't noticed much in favor or against LGBTQ here.. I do see same sex couples and they have drag entertainers... I think the capitol has more in regards to lifestyle and "out living"

I’m also a laid back person and I live in the east coast. I think people are always working or networking to grow their businesses. People aren’t friends here just business partners. It’s lame. I may also need to move elsewhere.

@@destinygodley We love it. Haven't looked back. It's a true learning process. The best way to adjust is to find out how the locals operate directly from the locals. Learning to speak "Dominican" not just Spanish is your best tool.

I just left there from a cruise. How did you learn conversational Spanish any suggestions on beginning. Love the weather.
watching spanish shows with subtitles.. there are lots of "learn spanish fast" videos... and if you have any spansish speaking friends... hope on the phone with them to have basic convos.. it REALLY helps... My main thing is communicating to people... I speak Spanish.. but not well and not fast... and I understand more than I can communicate and prefer to see it in writing... Once you make the effort they will meet you half way
