When my wife retires and we can travel more my plan is to do either get the gen y or the Shocker with the air bag on my 5th wheel. I deliver campers with my truck and haven't had the chance to pull one with the Gen y. I have pulled one with the Shocker and couldn't believe how well it pulled. I have the bumper pull torsion Gen y 2.5" with 5 height positions and can say it's HEAVY! Very well built. First of your videos I've seen and very well done.
Have the same setup on my 43ft toy hauler. I love it. Have a short bed ram and a 4inch offset ball for b&w for cab clearance. The gen y is the way to go
Okay, I got mine installed, I was wrong on my previous comment. Putting it on the ball first can actually jam you up. We nearly got stuck jammed in there and struggled to get it out. There is no chance of breaking the ball though, the gooseneck will sit on the truck bed, there is a crazy amount of movement at the ball and gooseneck connection. The way you guys did it was better than my idea and (red hoodies idea) but even better would be to have one guy on each side lifting and a wife, girlfriend, grandma, the mail man or another buddy insert a bolt or two to hold it in place. It takes 30 seconds to lift it up and insert a bolt to hold it in place. Way way faster.
I have a 2020 GMC 3500HD AT4 w/factory gooseneck and I use an Anderson Hitch, which I really like, but much like a 5th wheel setup I give up bed space, was looking at this setup(still considering) but my biggest concern is the cab to camper corner clearance when maneuvering in close quarters, I didn't want to "pop" that back glass on the cab, that'd be a pricey mistake... After watching the video, I have some additional concerns, the 5th wheel to bed rail clearance seems a little low, and when you pulled out of your driveway they appeared to make contact, but with the camera angle it was hard to tell, what I did see is that it got mighty close...
In an hour my brother and I are about to install the same thing on. Brinkley Z3610. I am going to try putting it on the ball then using the jack and some wood to support the other end by the RV.
@@ebuttles1730It towed great, it does add some height to the nose of the trailer. I have on order a 2024 F350 SRW, it will be here end of February. In the mean time I towed it with a 2007 RAM 5.9 Cummins, quad cab, 37’s with a 6” lift. We were over loaded for sure payload wise but it towed great. There was a little bucking at some bridges but not bad. They say it takes about 1,000 miles to break in and that should go away.
from bed camera you had kept waiting for it to snap the ball, lol.....just doesnt look possible that the hitch wouldnt pop that ball out of the truck like a bottle cap, crazy how strong they are
My setup is a reverse leveled LML with the Andersen, the ability to flip the coupler around to adjust heights and tailgate clearance is the winner for me, except for the bucking that comes with it
Nice video. I've seen these. I think it's well built. Pretty expensive in comparison to what else is out on the market. At the end of the day, and why I don't have one..is there's almost NO ADJUSTMENT for ride height
@tomhopkins6758 Why would you say that? A Gooseneck ball is tall and Yes it is attached properly or the lock lever would be standing up instead of laying forward. And yes I know what I'm talking about I own a Gen-Y Executive hitch also.
@jamesglenn520 good for you (about ownership of another hitch) that's great 👍 👌. I still won't be buying this-due to it NOT having any adjustment in height. And in this video. On this day.in this example..that hitch is 100% NOT locked down around the bottom of the ball. (That's why I said that)
@tomhopkins6758 The hight adjustment is determined by which holes in the frame you use. And you can literally hear at 11.07 the click when it locks. And at 12.07 you can see that the lock lever is in the forward down position. Watch when they unhook. He pulls and holds the cable to unlach the jaws. When the jaws clear the ball he let's the cable go and the lever springs forward and locks the jaws closed. Or better yet search and watch an actual Gen-Y Executive hitch video from Gen-Y instead of Uneducated guessing on how you think it all works 👍
@tomhopkins6758 A Gooseneck does not latch down around the neck of the ball like a tongue pull trailer. The jaws lock just under the round portion so that the hitch can articulate further. You Obviously have Never owned or pulled a Gooseneck in your life. Stock trailers have Gooseneck hitches because they can carry more weight and navigate rough terrain. That is why you see a lot of stock trailers being pulled with Flatbed Trucks so the trailer can articulate a long ways without hitting the truck.
I have a Ram 2500 with 61/2 box, I pull a 5th toy hauler with GenY, you can not turn 90*, but can can come pretty durn close, 90* is extremely hard on axles, shackles & tires I have never had a need for it. I would not run any other hitch, Reese Gooseneck is close but to much complexity with air bags & linkages.
looks like it moves the weight to far back and you loose stability of towing over your axles with a 6.5ft bed, just look at your sag in the rear. Also look how close you got to smashing your bed rails (12:24) just pulling out of your shed. I'll keep my Autoslider..........
Thanks for the video!! Good job. I had a question. I have the GD 31MB also, and currently using the Anderson ultimate hitch which you seem to have used at one point. How much better is the gen y gooseneck hitch?
Depends on where you tow, if you stay on hiway and sleep at campgrounds 5th wheel is good, if you haul horses and cattle, gooseneck is way to go for articulation, not towing on flat/level ground. 🐴🐂🐮
Great video, just bought the b&w 3500 gooseneck to 5th wheel hitch about 6 months ago. Now you got me interested in this one. Is this gen-y hitch for all 5th wheel campers? Or just the grand design?
Having the bed open is nice but all that movement from the gooseneck on the ball makes me leary that thing rocks around way too much for me to be comfortable, I'd love to have my bed but I'll take the secure feeling of my v slider hitch. It just looks and feels so much more secure that's why I bought a 5th wheel with lots of storage so I don't need my bed plus it's alot easier to hookup than this
The way that thing sways from left to right from inside the bed that ball would have never broke from just putting the hitch on there and letting the trailer down on it great video I guess dude got tried of pulling withe the lifted truck?
Needs some air bags on that thing. I would have used the trailer jacks to help move the camper once I had the first 2 bolts in. A rubber mallet would have helped too.
I have the exact same truck thanks for posting this video. I just ordered my gen-y gooseneck how’s the turning radius with your setup? From the looks of this video it looks pretty good. I thought about the new goosepuck offset ball but didn’t want to transfer the weight behind the axle. Thanks
Dont forget you just voided the warranty on the Lippert Frame with the GEN Y , GooseBox is the only one approved by lippert.. and is all arund better than the GEN Y
Looks like the gen y fifth wheel pin box is much easier to connect to. No need for safety chains. I guess this set up is about 200 lbs lighter. Does anyone know the weight difference?
Some of the people in our friend group are in the military but higher rank. None of us are rich, but we just work hard and manage money well enough to afford nice things.

I have a 10 3500 with airbags. Towed a 40' toyhauler. The airbags will help the ride height and smoothness as well.
How did the camper stay attached? It did not appears the hitch was fully seated on the ball... 😬
Definitely cringeworthy!!😲

There is a an attachment that bolts to the existing gooseneck so you have the option to use either one. I’m using it on my camper now
Any plans for a video showing the max turning radius with this hitch and your truck? On flat ground and on a slight slope.

Drift Pin. 👍
The goose neck ball is rated for at least 24000 lbs. So your idea of hooking it up should work
Now you have a clean bed. Nice 👍🏽
Did the same swap on my camper. The ride gets even better after break-in.

Thanks guys! Almost convinced to swap to this hitch. First time seeing this, little more research.
Great video. Did the Gen Y hitch move the camper back far enough as not to hit the back glass in a sharp turn. Thanks, have a great day.
I use the Reese Goosebox hitch and never have to get into my bed to hook up chains or to add air to it's air bag.
Where do you hook your chains if not in the bed?
Where is the valve located for the bag?
Nice video.

Any issues with cab or bed clearance with the 6’ bed? Looking at this option for my 35’ 5er and ram with a 6’7 bed.

@@randyphillips559 awesome, thank you for the help!
@JW did you have any reservations since Lippert does not endorse the GynY?
13:50 "perfectly level" pans over, truck is practically off the ground in the front.
I believe if you had greased the sides of the pin box she would have slid right in after the first set of bolts. But that's just a guess.
How much room between the tailgate & Rv ? I heard it moves the Rv 2” closer to the truck . Thx & happy new year .

As far as turning radius is it better or the same?
Great video, just bought the b&w 3500 gooseneck to 5th wheel hitch about 6 months ago. Now you got me interested in this one. Is this gen-y hitch for all 5th wheel campers? Or just the grand design?
I believe they make them for all you just have to make sure you buy the right one
Thanks for the input.
The overhang of your 5er has to be able to support the extra weight of the hitch. It's not just a kingpin anymore. Our '22 Jayco wasn't rated.
But what’s U-R Milage compare to the Other Truck.
Can this box be used with a lifted truck ??
Make the video!!!
You could hear and see it lock into place
I know cobbham rd from anywhere ol Samuel’s truck stop

Yes it's latched properly.
You can plainly see that the lock lever is fully forward.
75mph? What’s the speed rating on your camper tires?
Only 65mph this is how people die or kill others on the road all the time!!!

You didn't hook up the break-away safety for the trailer brakes.
Now that you’ve had it a few months what’s you opinion on the genY
We have a gen y hitch store in my home town Nappanee Indiana
What size lift was on the silver truck?
I've seen people use ratchet strap s to lift into place
Needs some air bags on that thing. I would have used the trailer jacks to help move the camper once I had the first 2 bolts in. A rubber mallet would have helped too.
05:45 made me cringe. Brand new, beautifully powder-coated hitch, so let's just bang the hell out of it! 😮

The dude in the hoodie was 100% right, install the hitch on the ball and use the jack for the back to lift it to the RV.
that hitch is 100% not locked on the ball.
Thinking the same thing
Agreed
It’s on there, they don’t sit on like a typical ball. The recessed cup is shallow, not like a typical connection, that gives you a ton of flex.
You can hear it click when he lowers the unit on the ball that's how it sits
Im almost certain it hit the tailgate
Haha grand design is like 20 miles away from Nappanee too.

No 💩!! I couldn't believe he even thought that and said it outloud 😂
It doesn't look like it was on the ball right .
Yes it is. You can see and hear it latch.
I had to stop watching when he started beating on that brand-new hitch with a hammer.
