This happened during my High School Senior Year and IMO, the 27th Season was the Final Good Season of Barker's TPIR I miss Janice, Kathleen and Chantel, the REAL Stars of TPIR and R.I.P. to Rod Roddy another REAL Star of TPIR
For me, I allready had graduated from high school a few months before this episode aired that same year...and thank goodness! I hated it there soooooo much.
I didn't win a dime, but I was smiling and cheering when that $1.00 came up for both ladies! Good fortune to all! I realized that had Bob reset the wheel to a nickel after Suzanne's second win, Chirell most likely would have had ninety cents and beaten Suzanne for the Showcase. But I see he/they felt he didn't need to.
The wheel is reset to the 5-cent space only for bonus spins, which makes it impossible to land on the money spaces without having the wheel go all the way around at least once (unless you only move the wheel two spaces or something dumb like that). After they'd both won the $11000, the next spins weren't bonus spins, so the wheel doesn't get reset and they just spin from wherever it is.
"Will you take the first showcase: a trip to Brazil, Germany and Ireland and a car? Or the dinette set and the lovely Broyhill carpet?" "I want that dinette set Bob!!!" I remember in the good old days there was always an amazing showcase full of adventure and trips and transportation and then... there was the dinette set placed beautifully on a Broyhill rug!
So, obviously, when Chirell spun 5 cents it was a lock for Suzanne. She could do no worse than tie Chirell. Greedy as it sounds, I think they should have been eligible to keep winning on the greens and dollar. They both would have won another $5K! LOL
aDg 2k18 - Jeopardy lets them win as much as they can but realistically how often does that happen? The average winner walks away with what 10k? 20k? So a 100k winner every 3 months is no big deal.
They should just keep adding a 0 on the end every time they spin a dollar until they miss. Insurance on this shouldn't add that much to the premium CBS pays to insure against having to pay out large sums out of pocket.
Bob was awesome as host. He knew how to fill the empty space while the wheel was spinning. Drew insists on asking the contestant who they wanna say hi to. It distracts from the excitement... in my opinion.
Drew's getting better as time goes on. Bob Barker was a game show host his whole life. Drew will probably never be as good as Bob, but he's getting better every season.
hi i'm emily it wouldn’t have mattered if they both hit a dollar - there was no more money to win, they would have gone again if there was another tie.
And then 9/22/2017 happened. A perfect show, and a repeat of THIS, except even better. ALL 3 PLAYERS got $1 for $10,000 (because of Drew's 10th year as host) and then 2 of them got $1 AGAIN in the Bonus Spin for $25,000, for a total of $35,000! The 3rd one JUST MISSED another $10,000. $80,000 was won in total during that Showdown, which is now a record that will probably never be broken, even by normal standards. The max that could be won in the SCSD in the Carey Era (post-S36) is $78,000.
Kinda makes you think it was rigged considering it happened on his birthday. I mean the odds of that happening are very slim but ya know we've later learned of several game shows that were rigged.
If Suzanne had gotten a nickel in the third spin-off, Bob would have probably made one of his infamous "The Young and the Restless will not be seen today" jokes...lolz!
During Bob Barker's run on "The Price Is Right" back in 1998, it had two wheel spinners get $1.00 and picked up $1,000 to force a bonus spin and a spin-off. And then they both got $1.00 again and ended up with $10,000 more for a total of $11,000 each for a grand total of $22,000 in one Showcase Showdown to force a second spin-off, and the sole survivor with 15 cents went on to the Showcase. Wow, what a rare happening of occurrences, right before it happened again later in the season.
Hey everyone, which reaction from Bob Barker you think wins and takes the cake? This clip, or the one where Joy, one of the worst players, kept messing up by leaving 13 as in 13 thousand what and using the '1' twice and other numbers on her last try and then got it right?
Suzanne look like she ready to pass out ... I love the price is right ....watching from Belize for many many years Best to show off all time ... Respect Mr Bob
since Suzanne wasn’t eligible to win anymore money on her last spin and wasn’t required to spin the wheel completely around, and to avoid risking a tie (which she came close to by landing on 15), she should have barely spun the wheel to let it advance to one of the next few numbers (like 1.00 or 15).
All spins are required to go around at least once. Even spin-offs where no money is required. The only difference is a bonus spin doesn’t count for money if it doesn’t go around. The contestant would be required to spin again validly to break the tie.
Presently, the dollar on the nose is one grand & bonus spin prizes are the following: landing on the five and fifteen results in ten grand and another one dollar results in twenty-five grand.
How cool would it be in the bonus spin off for one spinner to get five cents and the other to get 15 cents. One player would win, but they'd both get the extra 5K. Man I'd love to see that happen!
Everyone is very excited for them for both hitting the dollar. But, I'm positive a producer somewhere was sweating hoping they don't do it a third time.
There should be a rule for this where you keep adding a zero for every subsequent $1.00 hit in every spin-off. Each player should have been awarded $50,000 for hitting one of the two green sections on that last spin.
I wish Freevee et al. would show these "later" years of Bob Barker's tenure. they keep showing the same handful of seasons and never get to Rod Roddy's years.
Amen to that!! That much money would certainly go a long way if it were used wisely, and not all at once. I never ever saw something like this happen before on the program. Bob was impressed!! Congrats to both of those women!! -Matt
You know, it's kind of funny because Lindsey had like no reaction to winning the thousand, like she knew she was hitting 50 cents again but then she goes nuts on winning 10K
That actually happened once with Drew Carey. Two guys tied with .95 during the initial spin, they both hit .50 on the spinoff, then they both hit .05 on the second spinoff. I believe the clip is here on UA-cam.
Correct. Only on bonus spin spinoffs is the wheel reset to 5 before each spin which Bob did. After that it is a regular spinoff and the wheel stays where it is.
Saw this happen originally too! But the question is begged, how many times did all three contestants spin $1.00? There is one occurrence during Bob's tenure on YT. And of course, both instances during Drew's time are up!
That record hasn't been beaten until it was the week of Drew Carey's 10th year as host. That week, they would get $10,000 for the first dollar. Nobody got a $1 until the last SHSD of the week when all 3 got $10,000 and the first 2 got $25,000 (a total of $80,000)
This is proof that the design of the wheel and the way people tend to spin it gives players about a 1:7 chance of hitting a dollar in two spins, and a 1:14 chance of hitting it in one spin. In contrast, if it were truly random, then the odds would be 1:10 for two spins and 1:20 for one spin. The odds for this situation would then be (1/7)*(2/7)*(1/14)*(1/14), which equals 4802, about the number of episodes at this point. [The 2/7 is due to having a third player in the first round.] It may also be closer to 1:7, because it seems to be rigged to win at times. In the episode where three people hit a dollar, two again in the bonus round, and it was worth 10K for the first round, and 25K for the bonus round, it was clearly rigged. Using these odds the chance would have been (1/7)*(1/7)*(1/7)*(1/14)*(1/14) = 1:67,228. With the current number of episodes that would be slightly higher than 9000/67228 or close to 1:7. However, that was a special episode, which would bring the odds down to around 100/67228, or 1:672.
great posting....closest thing i ever saw to this was from an scsd around 1988 or 1989 where there was a three way tie at a dollar for all three spinners.
