Yeah. It's a good idea to go 5 on the last number when you have $4+ to lose. Worst thing that can happen is you miss it by 4 either way (because they haven't used 0's in this game, since the '80s) and still have $1 left to buy the car.
Not to mention the folks in the audience displaying 2 and 8 with their fingers. That was painful to watch, good thing he could do basic math.

Last number needed to be off by $5 and a person in the audience is holding up an 8 and another holding a 2, what fools lol. It's Mathematically impossible to lose if he chose 5, which he did. Those people still would have won, but there is more of a difference than 5.

Seeing as the last number was 5, no matter what number he guessed (the worst he would guess would be 0, and the most he would lose off of that would be $5), with $5 left to lose, there was no way he could lose.
Finally a smart contestant.
If you still have six of your dollars after the fourth number, you literally can't lose if you pick 4 or 5, even if those numbers aren't right. If you still have all seven of your dollars after the fourth number, you're guaranteed to win if you choose 3, 4, 5 or 6, even if they're not correct.
