An interesting concept to utilise Free Roam in TSW. My family holidayed in St Ives for several years in the mid/late 1980s. I was fortunate enough that my dad was accustomed to waking early as a postman and each morning we'd visit Penzance to see several loco hauled services in a few hours. These included the North-bound "Cornish Scot", arrival of the Down Sleeper, the Down GW TPO, Down Newspapers and Down Parcels. The station pilot given the unofficial name "Debbie" was kept busy shuttling between Long Rock, Ponsandane Sidings and Penzance during this period.
I presume Shunting actually has a very large widespread number of yard duties, including assembling/disassembling long trains, washing carriages (which I didn't think about), Recharging auxillary power cars or locomitives with diesel since it is cheaper to run a Shunter short distances with a carried locomitive off. Loading/Unloading cargo, which is less used for places that have dedicated systems like coal loading/unloading factories. I dont know how boxcars are packed, but I've only seen them packed with forklifts so far... maybe more standard is a conveyor package belt? Would be cool to see some of the maintenance stuff like Track layers and track fixing companies, at least with dispatch systems.
Hi, not that I'm aware of, the signalling system is pretty basic, no special events or situations unless written into a scenario. No random events or emergency working, maybe in time 👍🏻
