This is a magnificent music composed by Telemann, the table music is amazing in harmony and grace, they are true masterpieces. Only a genius could written so elegant and sublime compositions for amusement and joy life moments. The soloists and the direction are flawless. Thanks for this unforgettable and remarkable recording.
@@stevenvanhulle7242 Ja, in the early years certainly. But I think the late Bach overtook already Telemann back then. But I'm not sure, my comment was meant mainly from the current perspective. I would say Bach was the greatest genius, followed by Beethoven.
@@hansharz8321 During their lives, Telemann was far more famous and popular than J-S Bach, which has never been really famous during his life. It is only during the 19th century, thanks to Mendelssohn, that Bach became famous. In the same time, Telemann was totally forgotten.
This is performed with real beauty and great instrumentation. There is nothing harsh about the string sounds and they are delicate and have a breath like quality as does the entire music here. Plus the musical inventiveness and melodic lines are that of a true master composer. We really are blessed to have such music in the world.
Georg Philipp Telemann ( 1681 (Magdeburg)-1767 (Hamburg)) was a German baroque composer and multi instrumentalist. He was Handel's and Bach's friend. Telemann is one of the best composers of all time. In his time he was the most popular composer. He wrote more then 40 operas, 145 cantatas, 15 misas, more then 600 instrumental works...
Telemann, Bach, Händel and Buxtehude. Baroque was the master period, but everyone talks about Mozart and Beethoven, schoolboys from the classical period. Mozart for instance would have been a nobody without Bach's sons putting him on track.
@@jaikee9477 You are not quite right. Sometimes the music of the Vienna classics looks too simple and childish, but they made the foundation to the music of 19 century. I suggest also to listen to Telemanns Fantasias for clavier - they sounds like Mozarts early music; Telemann himself was one of the founders of this new simplier antibaroque style.
Actually, he wrote about 1800 cantatas. He composed so many works that it is impossible to know how many, some sources say 4000, some others 6000. A lot of them are lost.
This is a delightful performance, of Telemann's most winning compositions - & superb in conveying the intellectual weaving together of all the dense "brocade" that makes for such a brilliant result, that we may notice in between the soup & the fish, the cheeses & the Cognac. Surprising not more listeners - they're missing a gem, as was I. Thanks to all.

Always our favorite mealtime background music, also wonderful for these days of WFH & crisis homeschooling combined! A little peace and cheer in the background helps keep the mood in a good place.
Telemanns music is just so “fantasievoll” I guess you could say fantasy like, it’s so light and airy and abso-bloomin-lutely beautiful! you can do just about anything with it playing
And there is no singing. Talking. Coughing, sneezing, crying, papers moving, babies booing, clapping, or screaming! That is worthy of a miracle! Thank you, for being extremely thoughtful.
So true! How did these people compose music of such complexity and intricacy? When you look at the sheet music it astounds. Just watching the performance of such music is worthy of awe. I like rock music and modern music but for me it does not compare to music like this which is on such a high level.
By temperament, Telemann strikes me as a very tender, good-hearted man, with a deep well of humanity on which his life floated. These virtues are on corporeal display in his particular proclivity for surprising me at unexpected turns of melodic direction or harmonic modulation, when phrase abbreviation or extension enhance a stretch, and especially in moments when his choices of meter and rhythmic play leave me intoxicated and more than a little infatuated with this portly, humble, brilliant and generative man from the sparkling age of the German Enlightenment.
I've performed some (and listened to many more) of these works, and there are still quite a few in this comprehensive collection that I've never heard. The performances are light and energetic. Thanks for making them available!
It's a difficult choice, but still it's a strong candidate. Albeit, I'd avoid choosing the absolute best... There are Masterworks, than there's good, mediocre, bad and "so-bad-it's-so-good" Music in every Period and Genre, so despite loving Renaissance and Baroque Music so much, I'd always avoid proclaiming any "type" of Music as the absolute best.
¡FELICITACIONES
From the booklet accompanying the album: "Telemann, . . ., wrote not only an immense number of sacred works and operas, most of which have been lost, . . ."
The track at 02:22:32 has many similarities with Handel's "Arrival of the Quenn of Sheba". 🤔 I wonder if there was any direct inspiration between these two pieces, considering the composers knew each other personally.
Tafelmusik (German: literally, "table-music") is a term used since the mid-16th century for music played at feasts and banquets. I wonder if there's anything like "reading-music".

Hello ❤
4 hours of perfection. Telemann is simply the best!
As is JSB!! ;-)
@@stevenvanhulle7242 Would say Telemann was the best until Bach came ;)
@@hansharz8321 - I wasn't there, but I heard in their time Telemann was way more famous that JSB was.
Isn't it music for dinner, with knives and fork sounds?
Georg Philipp Telemann
( 1681 (Magdeburg)-1767 (Hamburg))
was a German baroque composer and multi instrumentalist.
Agree!

A true masterpiece. My favorite music from Telemann.
A Joy
I've listened to many recordings and this is the best Tafelmusik I've heard. It's been in my collection for years. Production II is *chef's kiss*.

Gorgeous wonder how the human being composed. Excellent!!

Don't try to analyse it or

It's a difficult choice, but still it's a strong candidate. Albeit, I'd avoid choosing the absolute best... There are Masterworks, than there's good, mediocre, bad and "so-bad-it's-so-good" Music in every Period and Genre, so despite loving Renaissance and Baroque Music so much, I'd always avoid proclaiming any "type" of Music as the absolute best.
