Hours before the new characters for the final Booster Course Pass got announced, my friends and I were discussing the Direct and I said I wanted Funky Kong to come back. One friend said we were gonna get Pauline and either Funky or Diddy. I half-jokingly said we were probably gonna get Peachette. Cue the Direct itself where ALL FOUR of these characters are announced.
I thought there was gonna be 2 characters at the time I screamed when they showed Diddy and funky then they showed Pauline and I said everybody’s happy rn than I really went PEACHETTE? 💀
You just gotta respect Schaff for making these types of videos because he wants to and not because anyone asked
He reminds me a lot of EmpLemon. Both started off as awesome YTP guys and pivoted their content into making whatever videos they want while having tons of success. Love both guys.

She’s just, kinda there. Not the best by any means, but I’ll gladly play as her over the real Peach variants.
I honestly don't hate Peachette as much as everyone else. She has a cute design and novel biker outfit. Do I wish we got literally any other character? Yes, but I'll take what I can get.

One thing I love about Link in Mario Kart is the big smile he's always got on his face. He's so happy to be there, and I'm happy for him. He needs a break from all the kingdom saving, and while he's been in Smash since 64, that's just more fighting, so it's nice to see him in something where he can really relax and have fun.
No kidding he needed a break. When you think about it, even a place like Bowser's Castle or Twisted Mansion seem less creepy than even the tamest of dungeons he's explored in his home series.
I used to play as pink gold peach (she sounds like she’s drowning when she says ‘woohoo’ and i thought it was funny), then i switched to Link, honestly he’s my favourite now. To be honest, I think it’s just for the nostalgia of the noises he makes (and i love his bikes).
He’s just having a grand old time.
Plus he doesn’t have to deal with Ganondorf who just gets reincarnated after certain number of years after being killed
After all that Link has done for Hyrule, it's super wholesome to see him just have fun with Kart Racing.
I kind of wish we got Zelda as a racer as well, but there are like so many versions of the Hylian Princess to choose from.

As a diehard Rosalina fan, I'm pleased with her placement. I was already in love learning her story in Galaxy, seeing and playing with her in Wii cemented my love for her. Her Luma making all manners of cute sounds during her tricks is amazing.
I just remembered using her in mariokart wii so once i started playing mariokart 8 (on the wii u) i had my main set which later became my bestie once i found someones wii to use together with my new favorite the bower bike

The devs must've been *_thoroughly_* pickled when they thought Pink Gold Peach was a good idea (same for Baby Rosalina screwing with Rosalina's heart-breaking-yet-glorious backstory in Galaxy 1, as well as Peachette from New Soup U Deluxe doubling down on hurting Toadette's otherwise excellent rep up to 2017/18)

Funky Kong has the looks, the voice, the personality… Even if he had the worst stats in Wii he would *still* be a fan-favorite. Although, the stats do boost him up in the fanbase, thanks to his use in speed running.
It’s sorta like Super Macho Man. The character is already great enough, but a goofy quirk or aspect in their use in the game elevates them to a wider appeal.

As someone who actually discovered Rosalina first through MK wii and immediately fell in love with her (and becoming the main reason I got the game along with Galaxy), I appreciate her being so high up on this list.

I agree with you that he's probably the most generic pick you could go with for Mario Kart and Mario games in general, but he's always been a very nostalgic character for me, so I play him mostly because of that. I also play him somewhat out of spite. I was playing a spinoff game with a friend, and we got into a debate of how Mario was super boring, and no one picked him in his own spinoff. So, I took it upon myself to play primarily Mario in every spinoff game I play out of spite. Objectively there are cooler characters to play in Mario Kart, but he's still fun to play.

Fun fact, the voice actress for Cortana (Halo) did the voices for Peach and Toad in 64, which is why they're the best voicelines those characters had in any game
It's actually Double Dash that she's in, voices Peach, Toad & Toadette. Two different voices did them in 64.
If I'm not mistaken, most of the 64 era Peach voices were essentially random Nintendo/ of America employees. They got Cortana for a few of the GC era games, then settled on whoever it is now.
And Charles Martinet was, by sheer coincidence, also part of Bowser's voice, with some of Bowser's sounds being highly distorted old voice clips of his. Bowser also had a somewhat tumultuous GC voice history, before Bowser's Inside Story more or less solidified his voice for everything but Smash.
And I don't know anyone else.

Specifically, it's the laugh used in the N64 titles. I forget the exact order of operations, but that laugh was made by slowing and distorting the sound of the Boo sound... which itself was a stock sound clip sped up.
That stock sound clip of a man laughing was actually recorded by Charles Martinet some decade earlier. By compete coincidence it was on the selection the Super Mario 64 devs had, and was the one they chose, then later unknowingly casting the source of that laugh as Mario.

He’s a huge part of Mario lore in general so it’s genuinely shocking that he isn’t in yet. He could even have a car from his industry’s that would be so cool!
Hell, with how many ideas have already been thrown around in the series, I wouldn't be surprised to see both E. Gadd and Poulterpup in an MK game somewhere down the line. Personally, I think the doggo's a stretch but it would be a very good fit if Nintendo actually did it.

Pauline is a heavyweight and a great character that I think more people came to like since Odyssey, she woulda been a way better choice than pink gold peach 😭
Mario Kart 8 came out before Odyssey, so Pauline's last major appearance was in Donkey Kong iirc. Totally agree though, it's great seeing the character come back to life after Odyssey seeing she's been in Tour and the new Mario strikers game

Actually, Pauline did make several modern appearances on the DS in the Mario vs Donkey Kong series, so she did have a modern design they could have used even before Odyssey. There was absolutely no excuse to include characters like Pink Gold Peach or Honey Queen over her.

Hot take: Metal Mario is just as useless as pink gold peach and uglier than her too. Pink gold peach should be removed but only if metal Mario is too. Same goes for raccoon Mario and cat peach. Both are useless except peach is cuter. Adding in characters like Birdo would’ve been better than having a million marios and peaches

Finally someone who doesn't slander the koopalings. I have an issue with there being like 8 of them that have to be modeled and end up "taking" away a spot for other characters, but they are definitely varied enough to still be good additions to the game, both design and personality wise.
Tbh I get the complaint with them taking up so much but I think they're warranted, the issue is more so with the roster just being so small that other good characters miss out.
Nintendo please I beg you make the roster bigger

Mario in this game has great comedic value for me, because he’s the character of choice for my “I’m pretending I just opened this game out of the box and I’m not aware you can change characters and parts” loadout. Full stock is pretty funny to use online if you ask me, and a huge part of it is simply because nobody picks Mario.

its so cool to see someone appreciate rosalina as much as you do! yes peach is big part of the franchise but DAMN rosalina is a space goddess (??) and the lore surrounding her is so much more interesting. not only that, they made her a heavy weight character in mario kart so she completely demolishes. she is so badass.

I think Lakitu being so unmemorable and getting lost in a sea of other characters… is what made him my go-to. He’s an underdog for me, he’s straight up adorkable with his goggles and excited waving animations.

I love king boo so much, but the only thing that could make him number 1 is if they use the Luigi’s mansion design in the mainline. It’s just so damn cool, have a more dark and creepy like character on the roster, who still sticks his tongue out a lot when drifting

@@frmug agreed, I love both in their own aspects, luigis mansions design is obvious, its f*ing sick as hell (and I especially love it because my fav colour is purple 💀), but I also love his main design because its more accurate to a regular old boo, but well, bigger and with a crown! And also he just gives me marshmallow (as in the food *obviously*) vibes and just looks so cute in a spooky way(?)

@@yingyang9164 honestly, his main design is kinda weird to me. It’s funny because it’s just a boo but BIG but I kinda wish he had a slightly more complex design like king bob omb or king goomba. Sth between his normal design and his LM design would do wonders to make him a more awesome character but it’s still pretty good as it is.
Overall, a bit of missed potential with his design but it’s pretty good nonetheless.

Dry bones is a character i really didnt care about in the beginning. And then one day while i flipped through the different characters with their vehicles i saw the most beatiful sight i´ve ever seen. a strong unbreaking frame, the elegance of a simple yet functional form. an accelaration and handling which is ludicrous. And thats how i learned to love the little guy in association with the monster that is the Dry Bomber. There will be nothing that is ever gonna beat the pure joy of Dry Bones/ Dry Bomber/ Waluigi Pinball
