My boyfriend got the game and he’s been reading the instructions for a couple of days. I suggested he go on UA-cam and learn how to play, he said no. So I am going to go on UA-cam and learn how to play it before he does🥰
Why did he say no? It just sounds like he doesn't want those days he spent on reading the instructions to go in vain lol
Men. 😅 Has he figured it out yet?
@@blindknitter it's been a year, I should hope so 💀
I want to know how this unfolded.
@@danielyuan9862 a year ago but there's just this pride for some people who likes to form their own strategies before looking up a strategy guide.
I'm 60. My older brother showed this to me 50 yrs ago. I just bought this game after watching this video... thank you. You explain it well....
The game is beautiful, though it's extremely hard for beginers. I'm just trying to learn it.
Me: *angrily finding this video after loosing like 40 times in a row thinking this shit was gonna be simple*
that's literally me! :'D
When I started playing, the ones teaching me told me, "Just lose your first 100 games."
So yeah, my expectations were appropriate for the game...
Hi Kele, do you know what program In Sente is using?
@@thomasmalone.4682 It looks like KGS cgoban to me but I could be wrong. Looking at the KGS website, it seems that they've updated what program they use. KGS is the premier go server for the west.
@@AvonaStar Hi Avona, thank you very much for your response to my question. Peace.
Dude you explained this SO well. No wonder I was losing so bad to easy computers. I was interpreting the rules wrong. You have a real knack for teaching. This video is extremely clear thank you so much.
been there
Always nice to see young people taking time to not only learn but also teach stuff like Go. Nice video, helped me big time!

enteresan bir manzara değil mi, beni de buraya şibumi sürükledi...
❤
Tried playing at 1st grade level... lost by 88 pts. Swore I was kicking ass.....
I lost by 87.8 points on level 5. : (
om I can't even get a single one-
I tried that too. I lost by 32 points but Welp I tried xD
same...
Me: its just a game of circles how hard can it be?
20 minutes later: *what*
hahahaha ! : ))
I'm seriously addicted to a Netflix K-drama called "Misaeng," and the protagonist processes everything in life--good and bad--through his understanding go/baduk. So that's what brought me here. You're a fantastic teacher! Thanks!
We watched it too! 🖐 We built a game out of this. Wanna play a game of go with us? 😁
@@gameofgo9172 i mean I'll play, but I'll destroy you easily! Js!
is this series good , i am going to download this
I downloaded a go app from the play store. Lost several times. I then watched this video...played my game and won the first match! Good job 👍👏👌
Dude, for the last 24 hours i was trying to figure out on how that game worked and finally someone explained it.
Everyone kept saying that its about capturing, but acutally its about areas which leads to capturing, i was so confused the whole time.
Thank you so much!!
It's about area control! But yes area which leads to capturing without losing area is definitely a plus!
Thank you for making this series. I enjoy playing physically and not many of my friends like to play because I am an awful teacher (and barely knowing myself) so i would have the upper hand 90% of the time. (Not a gloat) This series has been instrumental in helping my friends and I enjoy this wonderful game!
I've watched several videos trying to learn the basics of the game, and none have explained the game as well as you have. Not only are your examples varied, but your explanation and effort to provide additional info within every example is very welcome. Separating all of the intricacies into two, succinct rules from the beginning, (Territory and Capture) really helped me understand the concepts to follow in a way that other guides have failed to do. Great work. Thanks for teaching me!
I'm a near expert chess player who heard about Go through the grapevine. So now I'm here to learn as a white belt in your Go Dojo
This was awesome, thank you. As a chess player I've known about Go forever, but never really looked into it. I saw that beautiful documentary about AlphaGo against the incredible Lee Sedol and got intrigued. I really want to try it out but I'm still very much intimidated by the game.
No need! You don't have to be so dmeanding to yourself. Just be good enough to have fun and find new friends and you are good
As someone who's awful at chess and slightly better at GO, i can say from solid experience that its much more enjoyable to play GO at a low level than chess.
8 years later, this video taught me how to play
In Knives out, the game Go was indirectly involved in a murder mystery, looks like a fun game. Was seeing how it's played.
Same
Love that movie
That’s where I heard it
Same. I had never heard of it before Knives Out. It looked interesting. Teach me.

Still haven't learned 😕 no excuses! Wiith all this stay @ home protocol, desire hasn't left to play.

You are a gentleman and a scholar
15:13 "You can start your Go journey. And it will be great!" Thanks. Excellent video/tutorial
Thank you for this. My wife and I have a Go board but haven't played in years. I was looking for a refresher video, and most of them talked way over my head. You made everything really easy to understand. Kudos.
I have ever tried and didn't even know this game but tonigh I search a lot of websites and i find u, u explain clearly for know I will play and try it and thank man
Sending this video link to my 11 year old nephew - hope to learn the game WITH him :) Im an old time chess player but love the depth that go has always promised!
This is one of the best, informative, in-depth "beginner Go videos" I've seen, thank you. AND it's a series!? Awesome.
At 18:08, why is black able to play? It’s not immediately capturing white and it doesn’t have any liberties. So should black not be able to play there?
Is it because it extends his liberty?
Thank you! I've been trying to learn and all I've found online are super confusing videos. This is great, explains the basic comments better than anywhere else I've found. Thank you.
This by far the best introduction to Go that I've found. Thank you for such a clear intro with great examples.
Thank you for putting this video together. At the 7-8min mark you explained something that I have tried to find in countless other videos and books. Much appreciated!
I just finished watching the drama Hikaru no Go and was inspired to learn more - so glad I stumbled upon your beginners guide. It has very clear instruction and pacing such that I am now eager to get a board and start the journey.
still playing ?

Where did you watch the anime. I didn't find it on Netflix.
Many thanks for your Beginners Series! I had an unplayed Goban at home for 7 years and your videos finally motivated me to tackle the game of Go.
Thank you for such a slow and clear explanation of the game! Really helped me understand a lot more than other videos on YT.
Thank you for providing Go instructions for a guy like me who has been trying to find instruction everywhere unsuccessfully! Someone told me to try UA-cam, and I laughed, but here I am, and found your tutorials...nice job!
Thank you. I was trying to learn with OGS and could not get past the defend tutorial 3 to create 2 eyes before watching to the end of your video.
Thanks for this series! My fiancé and I just got our first board and this is far more helpful than other videos I've watched.
Just got my first set of stones and bowls, almost by accident too. Now I have a new game to further stimulate my creativity!
I got a Go board for Christmas & am starting my "lifetime to learn" journey. This is a fantastically clear and informative tutorial! Thank you so much :)
Thank you for this perfect beginners tutorial. I feel like this is actually possible for me to learn
Sir, you have been the best go teacher that I have found. Thank you.
I just recently got a nice Go starter set from Yellow Mountain Imports due to me remembering how much I liked Go many years ago. It is quite nice, bamboo and full etched 19x19 on one side, then etched 13x13 on the opposite side. I tried playing a game on the 19x19 side against myself just from the rules I remembered, and it didn't go so well lol. Came here looking for a solid foundation of knowledge to start all over again from, and now my games are looking a bit better! I really love the abstract, open nature of this game, as opposed to chess. I thoroughly enjoy both games, but I really do think that Go is my preferred one between the two!
Finally!!! This is the BEST explanation I have yet of Ko and the two eyes. I had such a hard time up until now understanding liberties
This is the best introduction to this game I have seen so far. Good job!
Best guide on the web! Easy, clear, direct to the point.
Thank you so much my brother for this video series. I feel so confident after watching this video, you are a gift to the internet. Stay blessed.
Really good video for beginners! Thanks, I'll watch these! I just started trying to get into the game again, after failing to learn it properly several years ago.
I’m really enjoying how easy it is to follow and learn from your explaination. Thank you
Came from SU&SD; thanks for the interesting and easy-to-understand video!
Another SU&SD fan over here. Saw their video, and went "humm.. I'm good a chess, this looks simple". Well, it is not.
Perfectly clear introduction, thanks a lot for sharing!
Teaching a friend a week ago!!! Your friend still doesn’t have the hang of it!!!!
No wonder it’s only popular in China and Japan! Much smarter countries!!!
Love your videos. I have really learned the basic strategy from them. I can say now I finally beat the computer in 9x9 was fantastic to hear RESIGNED.. ))))) Well Done. I look forward to the rest of your series.
This video is really helpful, just bought a nice go board and really excited to start playing. Thanks for putting this together, learned a lot.
Well done! Thanks for the detailed and easy to follow explanation... Best I've found so far
This video was so helpful!! This is the first video I've been able to watch fully through and actually understand it. Thank you so much!! ❤️
Thanks to your wonderful explanation of the basic rules and concepts, I just won my first game of Go! You, sir, are a very good teacher.
im grateful this guy made some solid content for us beginners before he went full Ruka Urushibara and departed.
Amazing explanation, it feels like a lot of the tutorials on go seem to gloss over certain facts or not explain things properly but you did it very well, and adding example questions is extremely helpful
i Love playing GO. I leaned about the game when I read a book SHIBUMI by Travanian a very extraordinary character with an abundance of culture and technology from the past. The board game was the game played by the character and was intrigue so searched for the rules of the game. Once printed, me and my friends started to learn to play and interpret the rules in practice. we color the 1 cent coin with black, the uncolored is anyway an alloy with silvery luster. wow, it's so powerful and yeah. i love this game.
This is very clear and the pace is good. Not too fast, not belaboring. Thank you.
Best Go explanation for beginners I've found so far. Hope you have a good 2019 mate.
just played a few games! And it is fascinating just how entertaining placing stones on blank map is. Thanks for the tips!
Thanks for the clear instructions. Now we're ready to play beginner GO-vid-19!
Great explanation of the game! You made it so easy to understand and it doesn't sound intimidating to start. Thanks!
What a Great introduction, incredibly pedagogical and well executed. Thanks.
best introduction ive seen, ive been looking a while and now I get it, great examples... thanks alot ! and online go requires login
rhubarbcheese thanks for this. Been trying to learn on my own. Then suddenly thought. UA-cam!!
Only playing on andriod app but just won my first two games thanks to this video
Thank you so much! This is excellent. I hope you always continue to teach...you're a great instructor!! 😊
As a confused and frustrated beginner, this is the video I needed. Thank you!
I am soooo gonna go play this against my computer. Thank you. I love how you explain things.
You have explained it veey well. I appreciate the way u didnt rush thru anything just to make a video.
THANK YOU !
You do an excellent job of simplifying this strategy game. I'll have to watch more of your videos.
Very clearly and helpfully explained. The video certainly interested me to play Go. Watching this in the UK during our 3rd lockdown.
Great explanation. I watched AlphaGo last night. Never heard of the game, but it is very interesting and very strategic. Thanks for explaining it well.
Thanks for these videos. Im a visual student and this clears up a lot of confusion.
Very good intro - thanks a lot from a complete beginner :)
Best instructional video I’ve found so far. Thank you!
Thank you so much for making this video! You're a very good teacher and it taught me a lot.

Hi! I am a 15kyu and now I am teaching my friends! Love this game!
This was a great explanation of the game. Thanks for teaching me the basics!
Just wanted to thank you very much. This is a great video, and you're a great person for doing it. Keep it up.
Thank you! I was looking for exactly this kind of tutorial.
I read a book called Shibumi and Go is a prominent theme within the novel. It had me desperate to play and this video is brilliant in its clarity and simplicity. I can’t wait to play.
Best beginner go tutorial iv come across so far. Very helpful. Yay !
Thank you so much, you were totally right at the beginning of the video. I got interested in Go because I have recently read the manga Hikaru no go, btw the manga is amazing 😂😁😅. This tutorial is very helpful and I managed to understand how to play the game, I look forward to more of your tutorials.
Thank you for this awesome tutorial! I’m excited to start playing this game 👏🏼😊
Thanks for this video! I suck at explaining stuff and things so now i gotta video to link to people to do a really nice job of explaining.
Great video well described , even though my brain is scrambling to comprehend the game you are a great Teacher .
All the Best!
I know this is a old video but I find this gave to be very interesting. Tried playing a game after learning the rules and got demolished. I lost by around 55 points
same here xD
The 18 kyu bot crushed me
Dude, I could fall asleep to your voice, but in a good way haha! You sound calm and confident thats hypnotizing. You look like a nice guy! :D Thanks for the video!
I watched AlphaGo so I wanted to get a feeling for the game, I lived in Japan a long time but never picked it up. Your patient explanation helped me a lot. 🙏🏼
Skip the first minute and 1/2 and just start at 1:29. Nice job with the explanations and examples.
Never watched Hikaru no Go but I am going to now :D Thanks!
