Great video as always. Loved this game so. However... Come on dude. Climax made both Landstalker, renowned Mega Drive classic. Also Dark Saviour, a fantastic Saturn hidden gem. Dark Saviour is outlandishly good. Very meta and deep story, gorgeous graphics. They also made Ladystalker. 😅
Blue Stinger getting some viscous slander here. For shame. I shocked this was the team that made Illbleed and then turned into Cavia. Such a weird path for these devs. At least it explains where some Dreamcast devs went once the console went under considering how many great Dreamcast games there were but they didn't transition over to the PS2. Likely because the Dreamcast games didn't sell enough to keep the devs afloat. I think Blue Stinger has stuff I like way more than Resident Evil, and oddly it was better made and better looking than Drakengard...
I respect your opinion for liking Blue Stinger, there just wasn't a single moment where I was really enjoying myself. Also haven't played a "classic" Resident Evil game, so that could have something to do with it
Btw, the other characters fall down because the enemy ambush wasn't marked, Eriko is the only one immune to this. She does still fall over in an unmarked ambush but her special trait is getting right back up. If the ambush is marked, any character will just gasp and the fight goes normal. Maze of the Kings also did come out in America, I played it myself. Fun light gun game where you choose Fire, Lightning, or Light as your bullets, each having different power and ammo capacity.
This is just one of those games like Michigan: Report from Hell where I'm delighted to watch a playthrough/analysis but I'd never play the game myself lol. Like, I love old survival horror but you can miss me with this sort of crazy gameplay design!
For what it may be worth, there is a tutorial section on how to use the horror monitor in the hub area. One of the side areas has a cemetery with a horror monitor and some hidden items including I think it was a health upgrade. Some sort of upgrade to slot at the hospital, anyway. Super easy to miss, but the extra resources are nice going into the first level.
ANOTHER CELLAR BANGER BABEY LET'S GO LOVE THE METS i was very excited to hear a longer video was coming and it did not disappoint, excellent work as always!
I would love to see this game be remade but have it actually be.. good. Missing a single invisible item and not progressing would drive me insane. Great video for the spoopy season!
I really think that this game is a masterpiece*, but it's not very good at communicating how you're meant to play it. People keep saying that it's survival horror, but it's more like an RPG with real time battles where the random battles are replaced with environmental triggers that can be predicted and avoided by playing a 3D reinterpretation of Minesweeper. I would really love to see someone else have a go at taking these mechanics and adding a bit more refinement, because there's nothing else really like it and there's a lot of things you could do with it. *barring the way that the game handles the sexualisation of teenage girls. NG+ in this game and the way you achieve the "true" ending by losing Eriko's clothing, only to have her dad make comments about her body is really not excusable. Given that the character was repeatedly abused to the point of losing her ability to experience fear by that person, adding a sexual element to their only face to face interaction (coupled with the fact that Michael Reynolds' mask/face looks like a penis with a blue condom on) I feel like the scene is not handled with the appropriate level of tact and acts like it's a punchline to a joke, but it only serves to leave a bunch of horrible implications about what was really happening during her childhood.
It's not a very scary game, so calling it survival horror feels a little inaccurate, but I would definitely classify it as a survival game at the very least. I don't know if I agree with the RPG label, but I see where you're coming from. I also agree that this game is ripe for a spiritual successor, it's very unique. I didn't mention the sexualization because it doesn't really come up that much, mainly the true ending and that weird bit in Queen Worm. Eriko is the only character over 18, but it still feels skeevy in a way that's not really necessary. I could almost understand it if it was meant to be an homage/parody of trashy slasher movies, where nudity just kinda happens, but the only time it really comes up is when Eriko's friends die? And the... Tremors reference? That's gotta be the least sexy horror movie.
@@TheCellarTaigenMoon I guess it just irks me a bit, given how flippant the game is about implied CSA/incest as the result of that scene. Maybe I'm thinking a bit too hard into it, but I really think that the NG+ run shouldn't have been designed that way. I could potentially see a way for it to work as a re-contextualisation of the game into something much darker, with maybe a bit more work to try and tie Michael Reynolds' films (and by extension the haunted houses the player explores) to him as a character (or possibly having parallels to the protagonist's childhood) but if they did plan it to be that way then it was missing some key components to make it land properly. I guess you could read something into Reynolds' films having frequent references to characters being separated from their children, or loved ones as an attempt at a through line that parallels his estranged relationship with Eriko (at least as he sees it) but I think that it's a stretch (plus, if you really want to go down that road it feels like it only gets worse and worse the more you try and fit the disparate parts into a coherent narrative: Home run of death implies that there's some angst over not having a son, the Tremors parody is about coming to terms with having a daughter, Woodpuppets could be about denying his daughter agency - seeing her as an object, whose individuality is to be suppressed and denied - the one about the shopping mall could reflect how his desire to have Eriko work with him becomes exploitative to the point of him actually turning himself into a monster in pursuit of wealth, Killerman is Reynolds refusing to accept responsibility for his actions and living in denial - clearly being responsive for all the deaths and murders at the park but pinning the blame on a fictional character come to life - and the less said about Toy Hunter potentially representing Eriko as 'Sexydoll' and himself as 'Cork', going to hell and back to 'rescue' her, the better.) It really feels at odds with the surreal and comedic tone of the rest of the game. It's almost certainly not something they thought through in any depth but the more I try and reconcile it with the rest of the game, the less I'm able to enjoy the rest of it.
nice video man! i really enjoyed this game when i finally got my head around the clunky elements of it! finding a copy was an absolute nightmare though Dx
Always liked this game as a kid, despite it’s many frustrating aspects. I wonder if it would work better as an Until Dawn type game. I just like the tone and settings of illbleed so much.
Barely into the video but just wanted to say i love the music intros you do sometimes and i find new music that way. Been enjoying drug church ever since and fleshwater here is also hitting
I wish it got some kind of revival or spiritual successor. Apparently Until Dawn inspired it, but I'd like to see something that more directly tries to do what it does in a more refined way
Learning that this game preceeded Cavia's PS2 era puts everything into perspective.
Not gonna lie, that Greek choice font did an amazing job offsetting that cold opener with the dead kid and the lewd doll.
Shot and chaser

I love this game so much I made a live action trailer for it. Glad to see it is being re-appraised in recent years.

UA-cam recommendations got it right finally. Great video. Money Spider.

Watched the Game Informer playthrough of this, was bloody hilarious from start to finish.
finally i remembered who you are, wanted to see more of your videos. changed subscription settings to ALL!!

That's crazy, I never found that. Feels like a pretty big oversight
@@TheCellarTaigenMoon The ticket taker in the intro cutscene told you to go there.
"Go up to the left."
@Sianostrakarenrenren counterpoint: I don't think
That opening umm okay yeah I'm all here for it.
good tribute to Aris with the green room.
I was inspired by him to film this from inside a bottle of 7-Up

i was very excited to hear a longer video was coming and it did not disappoint, excellent work as always!
I vibe a lot with Michel, mainly her haircut.
I think she's my favorite design of the main characters, not a style you see very often anymore
illbleed is my favourite game ever thank you for making this video

Thanks 👍
It's not as bad, there are far worse games design wise. I think the game itself is good as an experience, but not good from a game design perspective.
I really think that this game is a masterpiece*, but it's not very good at communicating how you're meant to play it.

You’re very skilled at storytelling
well, that ended on a real downer
but cool video, love the long form content
I go where the story takes me lol, I'm glad you enjoyed

ehhhh, I don't think so, I think they just needed to iron out some things.
holy shit that first song you used by fleshwater sent me on a hell of a headtrip listening to that entire album as soon as i could lmao
You're welcome 👍
What is the name of the song?
@playerback7722 Foreign by Fleshwater, all the music I use is in the description 👍
In that final boss room, there's a butt on one of the walls which poops on you. I am not joking.
I just installed flycast. Now i HAVE to play this game. Thanks dude!
👍👍👍
Goosebumps WHAT Land?!?!
Uh uh uhhhh

This is the best thing I could hear, I really appreciate it 👍👍

Love this game. Great video
spoiler- michael is an alien from ultraman , for reasons......
Yet another weird niche game i bought for 20 bucks now worth absurd amounts of money. 20 bucks is almost what its worth as the janky doofy mess it is.
