I am a retired State Trooper and drove several Ford patrol cars. The 4.6v8 was the best. I put 110,000 miles on my 2006 car and not one minutes of any problems. I had the power in the Police package and loved it. I drove the Ford Mustang also with the 5.0 v8. This had the police package also and boy was it fast. No problems but a small gas tank.
My late Dad was a deputy sheriff from 1962 to 1988. He told me how much he liked the 390 Police Interceptor engines of the 1960s. He had one cruiser that was a 3 speed with column shift that he said was great for city pursuits as it would run 90 mph in 2nd gear. Sure miss him. He lived to age 94 and enjoyed 33 years of retirement.
I'm with you on the 4.6 3-valve engine. I had a 2007 Explorer with the engine, and loved it. Great economy for an Explorer, excellent tow vehicle, everything good that any person could ever say about it, was true. EXCEPT for the spark plug problem when it came to be sparkplug change time. There was the reknowned breakage problem on the mis-designed 2-piece plugs. It was a 100% problem and the only question was how many plugs would break in half at changeover time and drop a broken plug (or several) into a cylinder. The "repair" was for the dealer to take the head off the affected cylinder(s) to fish out the plug remnants, and it was a very expensive repair. Ford happily denied each and every warranty claim, and so at 60,000 miles I traded the vehicle into my dealer for an Escape with the 3 liter V6. It never stopped overheating on the highway, which is another story for a different day. After driving nothing but Fords for 51 years, I switched over to a Jeep Cherokee, and at 121,xxx miles the only time my car has ever been in the dealer's shop was for a computer programming upgrade.
I bought a 1998 F150 with "The Straight Six - 300 C.I." It was my daily driver for 17 years. The only thing I ever did to it besides change oil was a water pump & 1 freeze plug! Ford's best engine! I ended up giving it to a close friend and he drove it for 5 more years.
Absolutely 💯 I have 2 Lincoln Mark VIII's a 97 and 98 with the 4.6l 32v and they are great cars, I removed the Cats and ran straight pipes back to Flowmaster Outlaws and they sound nasty and pissed off the Mark VIII were the first with the "Cobra" engine in 93' originally called Intech and later adopted by the mustang ,one of the best Ford engines ever built great cars and very fun .
You have errors in your information,, serious errors. The small Triton was,is the 4.6 liter V8 a truly excellent engine. Low speed, excellent mpg, 300 thousand mile engine if you change to oil and keep up the maintenance. The 4.2 liter for the years you mention is a V6 and in the 2000 to 2009 the 4.2 liter 6 is also an excellent long life engine. In BOTH cases, these are not the 4 valve race car Mustang versions These are the simple small 8 and 6. You want to rev them high and make them scream,,, they are not built for that. You want to put a ton in the bed of the half ton truck and drive from Albany to LA, and back at 70mph,, that is the right truck and engine. I stopped at 4:14 with that much bad info on engines that I know and have owned,, not worth my time to watch any more.
I agree with you, I stopped at 4:28 myself. I have a 4.6 V8 with 302,000 miles on it & still running strong, "2005 Crown Victoria P71" I also have a 2008 F150 that has the 4.2 V6 with a 5 speed manual that has well over 200,000 miles on it, & it stays loaded with tools while pulling a 8X12 trailer.
I struggled through to the end, agree with what you say. I'm perturbed over the 3.5 1st gen, it wasn't as bad as they make it out and no really clear mention of how much better the gen2 version is!
I bought a 2004 F150 with 5.4 and put 317,000 miles on it with no problems. After that, I bought a 2014 F150 and put 270,000 miles on it with no problems.
I disagree with the 3.5 ecoboost assessment. Sure, it had some problems, but no where near enough to make a worst engines list. Even Toyota, famous for reliable engines has a much worse engine than the 3.5 ecoboost in their new Tundra trucks, with engine failures becoming common.
He literally just made a video that contradicts what he said about the 3.5. He put the "ecoboost family" on his video of top 5 most reliable Ford engines. ua-cam.com/video/SqqSZCbVaFs/v-deo.htmlsi=_nwcTLp0eKGAuN5t
I've owned 2 of them, and both were crap. I won't buy ford again. I was a ford my whole life but the turbo coolant leak and ford's failure to address it have forced my to move to chevy.

This is so full of bad information. 4.2 V8 was not used in those years. Are you talking the V6 or 4.6 V8? Also the 5.4 was dead solid unless specifically talking about the 3 valve, which you did not
I must agree with you on this video. "Tire Marks" did no research. Almost any vehicle will run forever, except for the Yugo, as each one was hand-built, no two alike. I have owned many vehicles over the years including Fords, Chevy's VW's Studebakers, Checkers, Caddy's Buick's Sting Ray, Checkers, Dodge, Plymouth, and Road and Track cars such as Sunbeam Tiger. Last one is a REAL TIGER! Sadly the car was stolen in 1971. Today its worth $97,000! That baby was a real autocross racer! Bottom line is if you don't take care of your auto it's won't take care of you. How many auto owners with rear drive have checked or even changed their rear end fluid. I guaranteed it will be something like 1 out of ten owners. People just drive until something breaks? Few clean their battery or cables when changing oil. That's why Auto Zone sells so many batteries over the years?
I had a 97 F150 with the 4.2 V6. I don't think it could spin a tire in an oil slick. The second time the intake gasket failed, I traded it in with only 122K on it. Bad engine.
the 97 Engine 4.2 did have problems but ford redid the intake and several other small issues . I have a 02 ,195K on mine changed the intake gaskets once still running strong .
I have a econoline with 268.000 miles ,5.4 , 1998 2 valve ,. I have blown 3 plugs . but overall a good engine . The 3 valve 5.4 was a piece of crap 2004 - 2008 . I actually blame government for change fuel; mileage standards and pollution controls . They have to reengineer their engines in a hurry , and make them more complex , more problems.
I have a 08 expedition 5.4 3 valve, with the newer head with a normal spark plugs, change oil and filter every 3500,, has 267000 And runs great maintenance
THE ENGINE IN MY 63 1/2 FORD RANCHERO IS STILL GOING STRONG EITHER 107K OR 207K MILES IN IT, RUNS VERY WELL,,NEVER BEEN APART YET, 260 V8, EDELBROCK 289 PERFORMER INTAKE, 600 CFM EDELBROCK 4 BARREL, DUALS, FLOWMASTERS,, JUST KEEPS GOING AND GOING, NONE OF THE PROBLEMS MENTIONED IN THE VIDEO, FORD DID BUILD GOOD ENGINES AT 1 TIME.
@Fishboy68 definitely!!! Far better than the 5.4 triton. 4.6 ran great in taxi cabs cop cars the cheaper trim expeditions f-150s and e-150-250 vans always out lasting the transmissions they are bolted to... many cases 3 transmissions to 1 4.6v8
A few months back I traded a ‘92 mustang roller for an ‘84 SVO that was parked next to a barn back in 2001. It’s rough but it’s all there and I only paid $300 for the roller close to 10 years ago. I bought five foxbodys years back, I never paid more than $1000 each and I just put them aside thinking they’d increase in value. I particularly have a thing for t-top cars.
2018 3.5l ecoboost 80k miles, cam phasers were the only problem so far. Replaced on extended warranty at 72k miles. $3800 repair otherwise. Love my 6.7l PSD!
The 3.5 Eco boost problems early on have been cleaned up by Ford and are now a reliable engine. I don’t care which manufacturer we look at they all have problems.
I had the 3.8 with with my 2002 Ford Mustang. Had no issues with it. Only did regular maintenance on it. It was am automatic transmission too. Not sure how much that will change anything. However I only had it for at least 60 thousand miles. Can't remember how much longer oast that I had it. My friend had the 5.4 Triton with his 2003 Ford Excursion. He had the fuel issue and the spark plug one. Didn't have the issue with the timing chain. They also are known for an expensive AC issue that will cost you thousands to fix.
Okay, two HUGE errors. The 4.2 was a v6. Unless he was referring to the 4.6 v8, which generally had only really the spark plug issue the early 5.4 had, they are super reliable. Regarding the 2.0 ecoboost, the coolant intrusion didn’t start until the gen 2 version of that engine, which used an open deck design for its cooling, and they started using that in 2015 (though some models carried over the gen 1 until 2018) and they did a recall in 2019 to fix that issue. There are instances of gen 1 versions of that engine having coolant intrusion, but they are pretty rare and are likely due to a failed head gasket probably from abuse or overheating the engine.
My nephew has owned 3 Ford trucks, all have failed although his new 2004 F150 wasn't an engine failure, it had a host of electrical issues that stranded him multiple times over a 14 month time period, sued ford under lemon law and they took it back, his used 2015 f150 ecoboost went though 3 sets of cam phasers costing 1,800-2,000 per event. then engine developed rod knock, dead at 107,000 miles and lastly his 2021 F350/7.3 godzilla shit the bed at 41,000 miles due to a known cam/lifter issue. this is his 2nd lemon law lawsuit with Ford, he says they will never get his business again
My '97 F250 with the 5.4 has been nothing but dependable (knock on wood) since day one. I think staying on top of the MAINTENANCE has been the key---I've always changed oil before suggested intervals and with SYNTHETIC ONLY. This truck doesn't even leak oil anywhere.....
Horrible video. Lifetime Mopar guy, the mistakes and omissions in this piece of trash are numerous. One of the early thumbnails is a Dodge / Cummins 5.9. Several pointed out that the 6.0 and 6.4 were Navistar engines. Funny, those engines weren't particularly troublesome in medium duty trucks. It was the GD DPF the feds mandated in January 2007 that caused most of the troubles. Ford wrote their own software for these engines, probably because the lighter trucks had stricker emission requirements. My theory is that it was Ford's emission compliant software aggravated the troubles with the basic engine. When he mentioned the 4.2 V8 I thought of the early '80's 255 in the fox platform cars, an emission strangled small displacement Windsor engine, which was one of Ford's best. I had to bail out there, just too much BS. Stealing other channels content is egregious.
All I got from this video is- EPA made Ford struggle to keep up with their demands and Ford engines are junk if you don't do proper maintenance... 6.4 is junk. But with proper maintenance the 6.0 is a great engine. The 5.4 was a very reliable engine when properly maintained which includes using a torque wrench so you don't strip the spark plugs. Trash video spreading false and weak claims.
You're out of date and not fully right. The first gen 3.5L ecoboost was known for those problems, but it was the cam phasers that caused the problems. The second gen solved at least the carbon build up in the intake by having it has a multi port injection system. You forgot about the 1.0L ecoboost. That's been having issues for a while now with no solution insight.
Let's be honest, Ford hasn't made a good vehicle since the early 70s i saw one post that his cruiser lasted 110,000 miles. Well that's rare for a Ford bit still not good. I had an 06 silverado 2500hd 6 liter last 386,000 miles . It was worked harder than most vehicles will even work and if the timing chain didn't let go I'm sure it would still be running. I had an 01 gmc sierra go 632,000 miles with one engine change, one transmission change and the truck was beat hard it's whole life. The truck was so good I restored it and gave it to my son. I use to be a fix or repair daily guy until I bought a new truck in 96. By the end of 99 it had been in the shop over half of it's life and cost me $12,800 in repairs. The last time it was in the shop was at Haag Ford, where i was handed my check back and told they couldn't fix it. Kerry Ford had tried , Cronin Ford had tried. I will never own their shit product again.. oh and a quick FYI, my girlfriend has an 2020 Ford edge with just over 60,000 miles. It's been babied and always serviced by Ford. The transmission went out and it cost $10,000 to fix it. The torque converter was only available by Ford and took 6 weeks to get in. The transmission was in a week and failed because the hub wasn't welded on center and ate the new pump. Ford only covered the converter. FJB and FHF.
At time 9.49 there is a picture of a bunch of non-Ford cars. Why is this in a video about bad Ford engines? I own a Nissan Frontier (left center picture) and its non-turbocharged, naturally aspirated engine has been fine for 105,000 miles.
All the negative talk about 5.4 3v engines is silly. Been blown way out of proportion. We have 3. All with over 175,000 miles. One with 240,000. Never had an issue with any of them. Change my own plugs. Never had any issues. Mechanics are crybabies any time they have to actually earn their money.
I have a 06 f150 king ranch buy in september 05 still going like new nothing mayor...i change my oil evrey 3000 replase plugs at 100000 and its almost 200000 miles
$700.00 and up a side changing exhaust manifolds taking a whole day to do. Jasper has a video on the 3 valve with the oil pump problems.A 2 valve version oil pump used with an aluminum backing plate that flexes dumping the oil going back into the oil pan not going to the cam phasers.
It actually was a Ford engineering problem. Ford used Motorcraft Gold Coolant which is the source of most 6.0 issues. The International VT365 didn't have as many issues, but still had injector problems.
I disagree with what you said about the Triton V8 5.4 L my opinion is the best engine ever made. I had a 2000 F150 had a 5.4 in it never had an issue with it. Best engine I ever owned. I bought the truck in 2000 and I brought it to the salvage yard and 2022 because of the body just rusted away, it had on 240,000 miles
*_THIS GUY KNOWS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT!!! HE HAD A TON OF STOCK PHOTOS OF HEAD GASKETS AND GASKETS IN GENERAL AND DECIDED TO JUST THROW A VIDEO TOGETHER!!! PEOPLE LIKE HIM ARE WHY THE INTERNET SUCKS!!! FALSE INFORMATION!!! FORD ENGINES SUCKS BUT NOT BECAUSE OF GASKET FAILURES!!!!_*
Worst engine of all. The Taurus SHO 3.4 Liter V8 engine, which had a guaranteed 100% failure at 80,000 miles. In an effort to save $1.00 or $2.00 per engine, Ford pressed on the camshaft gears with an extra tight press, but did not spline or key the cam gears to the cam shafts themselves. Over time the press fit would slip and the cam gears would start to rotate around the shafts. Imagine a splined or keyed cam shaft vs a non-splined or keyed shaft. For those with lower mileage engines that were wised up to the problem, they would weld all the gears to the shafts and be OK, but if this was not done, it was a guaranteed failure, with the pistons then crashing into the valves, which were mistimed due to cam gear slippage. Normally, the catastrophic failure of the engine would occur at around 80,000 miles, and of course the engine was out of warranty by that time. Ford religiously denied each and every warranty claim, in spite of the failure being totally predictable due to the press fit cam gears, vs a splined or keyed installation. The V8 Taurus SHO became worthless due to the absolute guarantee of catastrophic failure.
I am so glad to never own a Ford. The Ranger and the Van were great and so many still on the road but everything else they made is crap. I see many Buick's, Oldsmobile, trailblazer, and Pontiac still on the road but no Ford from the 2000's era.
about half of the pictures have nothing to do with the subject matter while being shown some of the points were pure conjecture and not factually based, try again
Thank you I wasn't going to listen to your video I thought I knew it all about the Fords but now I'm a Chevy general motors guy Pontiac my dad had Pontiacs Buicks Chrysler and I had Chevy suburban 5.7 245,000 me on a real gem of an engine after hearing this with no way would I buy a Ford I was looking at a 2008 guy wants $18,000 for it and did the EGR and all that other crap but you know what it's still a piece of s*** so I'm buying that I wrote in a 2006 Duramax with the Allison transmission could not believe it the power the quietness the smoothness of the shifting it's got Duramax has them all beat
Skims over some major problems and make big deal of small easy fixes, also many of the pictures are of wrong vehicle, engine or part. Look for information from someone with a good reputation for working on and fixing, not a content creator this is a waste of time.
I find this whole video crock of shit, it was a 4.6 not a 4.2 as stated by many below the two engines offered in them years were the 5.4 and 4.6. Also your showing the wrong year vehicles while talking about the engines that were in them. Showing a 1993 clypso green foxbody while talking about a 3.8 v6 is just plain stupid becuse that turd motor wasent even available until 1994 in the sn 95 body style. And the biggest problem with them was in the super coupe thunderbird becuse boost pressure and expansion rates don't mix. Most factory 3.8 non supercharged were just fine though they lack performance. Moving foward the later year 4.6 and 5.4 with the p.i. or performance improvement had issues with the cheap ass plastic intakes litteraly cracking.keep in mind with anything if it isn't maintained the results will show.
So basically what your saying is anything from the modular era of ford's sucks.. well your right everything from that era did suck. N don't think dodge n gm didn't have thier failure engines but ford just kept kicking a dead horse over n over n over. 4.6 ford's both soccer and dohc where far better than the 5.4l but had plenty of problems. Next to 6.0 ford n 6.4 I threw more 4.6/5.4 soccer and 3v heads in the dumpster than any other brand. Just poor design and the 3 v heads where the worst of the bunch. FORD PLEASE JUST BUILD A PUSHROD MOTOR i mean cmon already your getting your ass kicked by a Mopar.. n please built something with more than 302 ci. Sad that gm had to show you how to build your own engines when they introduced the LS but well someone had to do it. Just build something cool for once.. I know some clown will say how great thier coyote is.. also junk.. but thier not your getting your asses kicked by push rod v8s get the picture
A total waste of time and another aurthor not doing proper research. No Wonder he has so few followers. Keep doing bad videos like this will not grow the channel.
Why in the world people keep buying Ford's is way beyond my realm of thinking!!! There are WAY better options, like Honda's or Toyota's. Were Ford's mechanical engineers students who flunked out of university???

The four cam 4.6 litre engines were some of my favorite for sound and performance. Coupled with a T5, it’s a good time.

To be fair to the 6.0 and 6.4 powerstroke's they were built by Navi -Star International.and sourced out to Ford for the Super Duty trucks
well i been ford tech for 39 years and i agree with some of these engine problems but i also disagree with a lot of these engines mentioned..
Correct, the 2 valves blew the plugs out the 3 valves you had to did them out, This is a AI generated video that shows AI is not ready yet.

Hard to beat a 4.6
Others are the straight 6 which were tough
The power stroke was not made by ford neither was the7.3 and 6.9 liter diesels. They were built by international under contract for ford.
A lot of the video clips were taken from other UA-cam channels, what a lazy way to make a video, thumbs down.
Super lazy didn’t even bother to match proper model years of vehicles with the engine
Super lazy when he shows a bunch of different engines while talking about a different engine entirely.

@yanmeyer8243 well they actually did but it was a v6
4.6 excellent motor!!!!!!!
238,000 k on my 6.0 drives like new. No egr and studded. Best truck I’ve ever owned.
My brother had three tritons in his trucks. One 4.6 and two 5.4. They all had over 400,000 miles on them with no internal failures.
I have a 5.4L 3 valve with over 250k on it, and still runs great. 2008 Expedition.
You did not mention the 1 .6 ecoo boost with the wet belt system that damages the engine with timing belt being chewed up
My '97 F250 with the 5.4 has been nothing but dependable (knock on wood) since day one. I think staying on top of the MAINTENANCE has been the key---I've always changed oil before suggested intervals and with SYNTHETIC ONLY. This truck doesn't even leak oil anywhere.....
the f250 got the good 5.4 there is 3 5.4l engines the other 2 are junk
3.5 is a beast. Gen 1 had some issues but we are on the Gen 3 now.
It is junk, one dealer only auto auction in Mishawauka ,Indiana gets them in put in the J lane announced with a bad engine
The 4.2L was not a v8. It was a V6. Most the the pictures shown during the video did not match the engine
Ford should have never dropped the 7.3
That 7.3 was a great engine though it was made by International Navistar as was the 6.0 and 6.4 mentioned in this video.
@@allanrheaume5549 Agreed! 7.3 was a great engine.
4.2 is a V6 not a V8. I own one and it's got 367,000 miles and still runs great.
The 4.2 was NOT a V8. And the 3.8 was Not an Essex.
The 5.4 2 valve did not have these issues. A responsible video would have explained that. No mention of the 5.4 3 or 4 valve concerns.
Had 2 3.5 ecoboost engines both crapped outbon me before 200k one was the timing chain the other was turbo coolent leak. I will never buy another one.
Owned 2 3.5 Ecoboost engines. Great engines. Good power, good gas mileage, great reliability, no problems at all. They were post-2000 F150s.
I think a major problem the engines are too compact making the entire size is too small.
The 6.0L Power Stroke is a NavStar design, just like the even worse 6.4L Power Stroke.
At time 9.49 there is a picture of a bunch of non-Ford cars. Why is this in a video about bad Ford engines? I own a Nissan Frontier (left center picture) and its non-turbocharged, naturally aspirated engine has been fine for 105,000 miles.
Ford should have kept the 4.6 and the 7.3 diesel, the 4.6 was bullet proof
The 4.2 is a V-6
Keeping my smooth running 94 f150 5.0 with 232k…..only thing more reliable is the I 6, 4.9…
Notice all these problem ford have (mentioned) are lack of Ford keeping up with engineering!
I have 5.4 three valve with 207500 miles proper service is essential
$700.00 and up a side changing exhaust manifolds taking a whole day to do. Jasper has a video on the 3 valve with the oil pump problems.A 2 valve version oil pump used with an aluminum backing plate that flexes dumping the oil going back into the oil pan not going to the cam phasers.
Never buy a vehicle with a new engine design, do your homework and buy tried and true engines.
6.0 wasn't a ford engineering problem, that was an international engine.
6.4 international took another shot, still missed the mark! Ford got sick of the bad engineering, so developed 6.7, on there own.
HEY FORD ! Bring back the 300 inline 6 and turbo it with the gear drive timing they last forever.
Amen. They were indestructible
Good info but your irritating and interrupting music track drove me away.
Quality, job 1
I am so glad to never own a Ford. The Ranger and the Van were great and so many still on the road but everything else they made is crap. I see many Buick's, Oldsmobile, trailblazer, and Pontiac still on the road but no Ford from the 2000's era.
That's why you get a f150 with the good ole 5.0 Coyote V8.
about half of the pictures have nothing to do with the subject matter while being shown
some of the points were pure conjecture and not factually based, try again
worst by far is 1.0 ecoboost with timing belt in oil
4.2 was not a very but it was a 6 cylinder
The 6.4 diesel wasn't any better than the 6.0
There's no 4.2 v8. The 4.2 was a v6.
I have a 2001 F 150, nothing but problems. Ford needs to change all of their engineering, they suck
Same with any brand
Found Oil Right Der
Any engine with more than 6 feet of timing chains is JUNK. period.
6.0 and 6.4 are not ford engines they were made by Navistar
6.0 won't last? Bro mine has 360,000 miles.
You forgot about the junkie 5.0l engine's
FORD - Fix Or Repair Daily
Ford Engineering,as per usual!!!
Skims over some major problems and make big deal of small easy fixes, also many of the pictures are of wrong vehicle, engine or part. Look for information from someone with a good reputation for working on and fixing, not a content creator this is a waste of time.
Why is he only talking about older late vehicle models instead of recent ones? Sounds like somebody is stuck in the past!🤣😂🤣😂
Ford hasn't made a decent engine since the 4.6 2V
This video is full of errors.
None of the ecoboost engines are worth having
*_4.0 SINGLE OVER HEAD CAM.WORSE RATED ENGINE EVER!!!_*
This author needs to change the name of Tire Marks to Skid Marks, it’s more appropriate.
I’m sure he will delete this comment
They had problems not "issues". Learn the proper meaning of words.
Just taking someone else’s opinion is not the right way to make videos. Try researching on your own.
The 6.0 diesel has the kick of a 90 year old chorus girl
What happened here Ford?
At least FORD circled the problem !
You GM people
Anything that’s called eco boost and pretty much anything that’s got multiple overhead cams an 20 foot long timing chains and or direct injection !
Pretty much a garbage video that feels and sounds like AI. Thumbs down.
A total waste of time and another aurthor not doing proper research. No Wonder he has so few followers. Keep doing bad videos like this will not grow the channel.
What a poorly made copy and paste hit piece.
AI created UA-cam videos need to go away ASAP. This garbage presentation is prime evidence.
Why in the world people keep buying Ford's is way beyond my realm of thinking!!! There are WAY better options, like Honda's or Toyota's. Were Ford's mechanical engineers students who flunked out of university???
V8 4.2 ?? 🤡🤡🤡🤣🤣🤣
Plagiarism 🤡
