It's funny.... I used one of these dry ice blasters on a weekly basses to clean out resist byproduct in a semiconductor manufacturing tool. The joy of seeing the material break away and leave a cleaner surface was awesome.... like the first 2 times, after that a couple of hours of blasting followed by a few hours of scrubbing with diamond pad gets old. Resist is super hard and the dry ice just could not break through the deeper layers. You cant use a sand blaster in a clean room. This is much cleaner and the blasting media just evaporates leaving just the material your removing. I just wanted to add we did not need to use a generator, our machine was 110 and plugged right into an outlet.

Even though you're replacing the suspension parts, if you were to clean them to perfection, laser cleaning cleans even better than dry ice. It's perfect for things like those control arms. It removes rust perfectly as well.
But fail to mention all the toxic smoke that laser creates, and most shops don't have a dedicated bay with ventilation to do safely! Where as rollout a sheet of paper put car on hoist and blast away as long u have decent air flow though area
I'm so glad I discovered your channel a couple of months ago. I just lost my best friend 2 days ago and I introduced him to your channel and he loved the content and we'd watch it together at the hospital. I'm playing this while at work and you really lifted my spirits. Great vid, love how this one is progressing. I have his 2006 Charger RT which is in pretty excellent condition that may be going up for sale soon. Thinking how sick it would be if it ended up with you in Chicago, where he was born. I'd love to keep it for myself but I wouldn't be able to spend the money to finish it like I'd want to. If and when I sell it, I'll call your shop and see if you're interested. I'm sure for you the work needed could be done in a couple of weeks, if that.
I was cringing at this myself! If you intend to reuse the ball joint NEVER smack it with a hammer. Hit the spindle or use the ball joint tool like he used on the spindle to pop it loose if a hammer doesn't do the trick. You can also use the tension of the suspension spring if you put the nut on the spindle and put a jack under the control arm and whack the spindle to pop it loose. This trick works great on G body and S-truck suspensions.
Alex, I've been binging just about every video on your channel over the last few weeks. All I wanna say, is that you have great energy, you make the videos both entertaining and educational and ive learned and done some work on my own car thanks to some of your teaching. So two things, thank you and love your videos!
OMG! I grew up the Chicagoland area (counsole) with an OCD German-American, clean-freak mom and I found this video SO satisfying! Alex, is your mom German by chance? Everytime I watch one of your videos I start talking with that Chicago accent for about a day and a half (da Bears!). For some reason, you seem like family. Keep representing brother!
Alex, never hit the stud on tie rods or ball joints for removal. Hit the KNUCKLE on the SIDE of the stud and it will shock it loose! First thought is to hit it the direction you want it to go but horizontal impact is what loosens the tapered studs!
Yes this one of the first things you learn as an apprentice mechanic, never hit the stud of the ball joint (especially if you plan on reusing it) as it will wreck the stud. The double hammer on the knuckle technique almost always works and doesn't damage the stud.
I think I'd be lying if I didn't say this was by far the best DeLorean video you have made is it. I absolutely love that machine in the way he cleans. The thing is freaking awesome! I love your DeLorean by the way!!
Spray your wheel wells and undercoating with amsoil mudslinger it's originally designed for off-roaders so they can clean their undercarriages easily but I found that it works great for the car fender wells and under body of any car and stops mud and stuff from oil sticking to your underside it's almost like putting ceramic coating on the undercoat of your car
First of all - absolute all positive 100% for LSC. No negs at all. Alex you are a great guy, I feel you like a brother for a good and healthy case of OCD that drives the both of us to excellence. NO minus AT ALL for you, your lovely family, the shop, the channel the production and so forth. Additionally the "cool factor" of the DeLorean is beyond words, off the scale etc. But now in light of your and the chill factor of the car being >100% lets get down to cases about the car itself. You are so kind and benevolent to that car. It is a dream of your very young "youth years" to sit in that thing and drive it around, and my gosh even that concept I get fully as well as support whatever it takes. The car seems to be a hodge podge in certain areas. Was Delorean under funded? Did he just get up one day with a merry band of engineering and designer men and decide I'm gonna build the cool car of a generation? My personal perception in cold hard reality a great deal of your issues and difficulties with the car which you seem to relate are shared by all Delorean owners go right back to lack of a robust tier supplier structure back in the day. I observe this after being in a training position with a major Japanese manufacturer in and out of the assembly plants, engine and unit plants for 15 years. In the community where the plant is located there may be over 1000 tier 1, 2 and 3 suppliers. They make dash boards, seats, wiring harnesses and on and on. The actual manufacturer of the car stamps all the sheet metal you can see (exterior body panels) but tier suppliers may even stuff like floor board and trunk panels and interior superstructure. So my point to understand why my following comments elude to weird parts and part selections when the menu of tier suppliers to produce parts and feed them to the assembly plant may be limited because of existence or commitments DeLorean could make could explain wooden parts and creative wiring harnesses etc. Like the little boot for the cables through the gull wing door that seemed to be a bit flimsy. Or the choice of the motor? That is truly the puzzle piece that don't fit to me! So i think if Delorean had been a little more stable in financing and in infrastructure so many issues you are fighting like the motor's valley of death would have been non existent. Simply source a viable small V8 from someone notable like Ford or GM. Imagine if the Back to the Future car came with a small block GM or Ford V8. a major parts store or the like could provide a rebuild kit for the engine, etc So the payoff of this ramble is this. It makes me think even more of you if that is possible because I have always though you were among the top 2 or 3 on YT for you character, integrity and honesty as well as real grit. Halfway? No way gonna do it right all the way or not at all. So to see you go after this DeLorean with tooth toenails and both feet tells me you have principles and appreciate the vision and dream of old DeLorean even if he was not quite half cocked on getting this car produced. It takes true grit to get this one done. Anybody can do a foxbody Mustang (you would do it better I bet) but most anybody would grow pale and weak in this restoration battle and faint along the way. Another partially restored DeLorean up for sale. But absolutely NOT YOU. So all I can say is I wish I was rich so I could come work for free and give you a big wad of money to help with the project. Much love and respect from Mobile Alabama. Just call me wrenchin since I was 9, just turned 72 and have more wrenches than I'll ever use,😃😃😃😃😍
I liked that you put a license plate between the fiberglass and the flame. I've seen some welding guys use a really neat fabric behind their welding and torching that absorbs 100% of the heat from going through to the other side. I wonder if they make a flexible pad like that so you could save that fiberglass from the heat. I know you didn't hit it with "flame" but you can definitely tell it got quite a bit of "heat" on it.
There's a tool called an induction heater that doesn't use flame to heat bolts in sensitive areas. They only run a 2 to 3 hundred dollars which is tremendously less expensive than repairing fire damage. Being in the rust belt I'm surprised he doesn't have one already. Of course he's still using MAP gas instead of a true torch which I find surprising for a former professional mechanic.
I love this series, and I’ve been a subscriber since you were well under 50k. Watching you grow this thing is amazing. It’s not what you do, but I wonder how you’d resto-mod a camper.
@@markopolo945I’m sorry you lost your mom to breast cancer. I lost my mom too, but the breast cancer didn’t Quite get the chance to kill her. Instead it was the radiation that killed her. Very very painfully.
Dude, wear a respirator mask when you're dry icing, you're breathing in all the garbage that's flying off the car. And make sure the area is well ventilated. Dry ice is frozen carbon dioxide which turns to gas once shot out of the gun and displaces the oxygen around you
Another thing sara n tuned found, degreasing and pressure washing first helps a lot. The dry ice machine wont temove grease. Also pre cleaning prevents bits being blown onto cleaned areas
It's an amazing transformation, for the price I guess it better be. I think the biggest concern, even after you remove so many vulnerable things, is if it's doing any damage to gaskets/seals and such.
WOW! The before and after hit the spot to clean and expose the big D hidden underbody secrets! Before watching the video, I was split between the process working out like it should and it being an epic fail if the dry ice (coldness) and pressure could have damaged the fiberglass components. I am glad it worked out but not surprised that it did! Alex you are the man! I think you will make the Halloween deadline and be very proud of the final resto!
Not swapping that engine is an ongoing insult to DeLorean. He never wanted that engine, but was forced into it due to collusion from the big 3 to screw him over. Put a powerplant in that thing that DeLorean himself would have been proud of.
I wish you would had been around when I was a kid those 90s car rebuild shows were boring I would had learned more watching you then them ! Great jobs as always guy !!!!
Alex you need some Speed wrenches. I didn’t think I needed them and I was just lazy but nooo! They saved me so much time doing break lines and getting my motor out of my Taurus.
Hey Alex, I really enjoyed watching all of the nastiness being stripped from the DeLorean. Thanks for setting this up. I'm looking forward to another installment. Cheers!
I appreciate you looking into a local Dry Ice Blaster Supplier to use on your beloved DeLorean. .I don’t know if you did contact Rebuild Rescue to speak to Jason to learn more about Dry Ice Blasting. When I suggested it to you, I was convinced that the results would take your Car back in time! Your results are extraordinary.
So happy you dry ice cleaned your De Lorian! Looks amazing!!! Now, if you want to go crazy, ceramic coat all the fiberglass and frame and suspension! It will add some protection, but it will be easier to clean again later.
Great energy working on stuff. Can get boring when someone has the wrong attitude working on anything. Keep up the jokes and the bolt turning obsession! Your attention to detail is contagious also!
😮 wow what a transformation on that frame I didn't even know I could do this with dry ice amazing work you guys did I can't wait to see this car finished, one thing I did knew you was going to do was clean that whole car out even before the dry ice because your a clean freak and I can relate because I'm the same way I just hate to see dirt on my car, great job keep this amazing videos coming your the best and no one does what you do and that's going the whole 9 yards I totally respect that .
That dry ice blasting is great it's a bit like Shot blasting which I have done but it is not as destructive, I do love the before and after and I am pleased you have now seen just how good it is but the price is not always easy to justify apart from on time machines.
Have been watching your content for ages, love all the Mercedes stuff but never owned a Mercedes, but it is so interesting it always keeps me enthralled, this project hit home because a friend of mine and his son absolutely loved the "back to the future" series, unfortunately he passed away unexpectedly, very sorely missed! but his his son bought a delorean, I was really reticent at first, but, I have come to understand his decision, and I have pointed him in your direction, and I am sure he will be very gratefull for the fantastic instructional information that will be invaluable to him in his ownership journey.
Would have been interesting to see the dry ice on low pressure clean up the engine valley. You do need to treat the alloy tonprevent further deterioration. Plenty of good products from the aerospace industry and then you can do some metal apoxy bonding.
I worked in a factory that made car parts using plast-injection molding. Dry-ice blasting the molds was a normal part of preventative maintenance of the molds. If the parts are coming out with defects, it's normal for the tool builders to dry-ice blast the molds while still in the machines.
I finished the DeLorean! Check this out! ua-cam.com/video/DsAxVt94sb8/v-deo.html

Disassembly…so satisfying! Remembering where it all goes back is my challenge!! I love watching you do it all!!
Wow nice work, it’s looking amazing! Can’t wait to see what you accomplish in the next video but you’re doing a phenomenal job!
for stuck tie rods, instead of whacking the bolt with a nut on it, hit the side of the knuckle where it threads through and it will pop right out.
right after making the comment i see you do the same thing i meant after you cut the castle nuts off. lol good job man
I was cringing at this myself!
Dry Ice Blasting, GREAT SCOTT! 🤯
Also, I was really surprised these guys showed up with a Kärcher, a brand that is very common here in central EU :D.
This is not magic, this is hard work. Thanks for sharing 👍
Hello Alex, living up there in the rust belt, you need to purchase an induction heater to remove those rusty bolts. You will love this type of tool.
Alex, never hit the stud on tie rods or ball joints for removal. Hit the KNUCKLE on the SIDE of the stud and it will shock it loose! First thought is to hit it the direction you want it to go but horizontal impact is what loosens the tapered studs!
That's correct, the knuckle will deform enough by hitting it to release the taper shaft easily(for the most part).
Lol , G'luck putting all those washers back on.. I think had DeLorean just used correct length bolts they'd probably be in business still.
Antisieze every bolt and washer you or someone in the future will be so glad you did .
Have you never watched one of his videos before? He uses that stuff all the time under hood and for fender wells. He's also an Amsoil dealer.
@@FastSS02 no just started watching it because it was suggested to me cuz I own DeLoreans
Alex, You're so genuine. Happy this is all working out for ya.
The car itself is absolutly disaster engineered ,but its still a legend
Imagine if the Back to the Future car came with a small block GM or Ford V8. a major parts store or the like could provide a rebuild kit for the engine, etc
So the payoff of this ramble is this.

@17:11 "That could fester hatred and anger"
See "Hoovie" and "Buried vehicles in my yard".
Where is PETER????? We miss him. Did he go BACK to the FUTURE?
The dry ice machine is kind of mesmerizing and therapeutic all at the same time. Great video by the way.
I love this series, and I’ve been a subscriber since you were well under 50k. Watching you grow this thing is amazing. It’s not what you do, but I wonder how you’d resto-mod a camper.
Dramatic transform!! Always wanted to see that actually done. Thanks.
Pick up an LSC Breast Cancer Awareness tee shirt before they sell out! bit.ly/KomenLSCshirts
Hell yeah I will! Lost my Mom to that😢
@@markopolo945I’m sorry you lost your mom to breast cancer. I lost my mom too, but the breast cancer didn’t Quite get the chance to kill her. Instead it was the radiation that killed her. Very very painfully.
Really appreciate that your doing this! On your way to become the Mr.Beast of car UA-camrs. You and Tyler with his holiday giveaways!
No one want to drop the bomb on how little money Komen actually donates to research?
I've watched pretty much all of your projects start to finish but this one is my absolute favourite.
Dude, wear a respirator mask when you're dry icing, you're breathing in all the garbage that's flying off the car. And make sure the area is well ventilated. Dry ice is frozen carbon dioxide which turns to gas once shot out of the gun and displaces the oxygen around you
You might have breathing issues in a sealed room at floor level. Co2 is heavy so opening a door helps clear it.
Wow, what a progress! I’m very curious to see them restore the frame also ! Great job done Alex! 👍😀
I’m going to have an aneurysm if I don’t find out what happened to Peter
This is a great series . I really like how far you go to making them perfect
Wheres PETER?

There's a homeless dirty man I see every day on my way to work I wonder if this machine would work to get him cleaned up?
I suggest making the ice blasting part a short on UA-cam/tiktok/instagram.. just a suggestion. Get some extra engagements
Back to the pile!
Need to find one of those (larger) laser rust removal machines now!
The 80's-style montage with video-game-font text was hilarious! Nicely done!
i think my enjoyment factor for alex's channel is 30% Technical knowhow, and 70% his funny voices and parts having a personality 😂
Great work! The car is coming along really nice. Thanks for the update, looking forward to the next one.
And yet again another quilty video love it. And the outtakes are becoming my favourite part 😂
That dry ice blasting is great it's a bit like Shot blasting which I have done but it is not as destructive, I do love the before and after and I am pleased you have now seen just how good it is but the price is not always easy to justify apart from on time machines.
Brilliant channel always enjoy your videos 👏🏻🇬🇧
Out of all the car related content I'm watching right now ( which is a lot ) this is by far my favourite. So epically cool 😎
If anyone can show the world dry ice it is you. Thoroughly enjoyed this video.
I got so excited bout this vid! I really saw this as a dry ice project from the start! So cool that you listen to the comments! Wrench on!!!
Btw those aluminium parts, in a mediablaster like water and soda, will make them look better than mew… just sayin😅
What a transformation. You will obviously get a lot of reassurance from this process.
Look forward to more videos on the. D-L. Hugh Somerset UK
By far my favorite car channel and presenter! Go Alex!
I worked in a factory that made car parts using plast-injection molding. Dry-ice blasting the molds was a normal part of preventative maintenance of the molds. If the parts are coming out with defects, it's normal for the tool builders to dry-ice blast the molds while still in the machines.
Love these vids bro and appreciate how kind hearted you are with donating to charities. Some people will be negative but dont worry about them.
