I love to see these amps being appreciated for the treasures they are.

GND reverses the polarity / ground lift...if you have a bad power source causing "hum" ...flip the switch

Great review and nice job cleaning it up. The biggest take-away for me was when you were recording and moving the mic on the speaker. I don't record and was surprised at how a minor adjustment in mic position made a huge difference in tone! Thanks for that accidental lesson!!
Beyond that, the owner's manual is available on Peavey's website. Looking at it, the EQ section on the Normal Gain (clean) channel is a passive EQ (flat is 2-10-4 (low, mid, high)) while the EQ section on the Lead Gain channel is active (flat is with controls at Noon) and the Shift button changes the center frequency of the Body (aka Midrange) control.

The exact year/make/model I have always wanted. I settled for a used Bandit 65 with Scorpion. Another revered PV model that sounds sweet & I have enjoyed many years of use. Great clean platform that I used with the plethora of stomp boxes I own. Then I bought a Blues Jr. At the time I owned a large home with living area downstairs & bedrooms upstairs. So I had an amp on each level. I used them both. But then I sold the big house & the amps just sat idle while I rented an apt. A year later I bought a small ranch (only 1 level). The Bandit sat idle some more. When I fired it up again the pots started crackling. So I bought a teal striped Envoy 110 (10” speaker) off of eBay. The pots of the Envoy were also crackling. I disassembled the Envoy sprayed the pots with contact cleaner & it has been as good as new. The Envoy is the perfect sized amp (35 watts) to fill a room & easy to move. Bandits tend to blow your ears out and are damn heavy (I am 62 yrs. old). Ultimately I disassembled the Bandit & sprayed its pots. It was working well . But the years passed and it sat idle again. When I fired it up many years later crackling pots again. Anyway I have still have the Fender Blues Jr., I picked up a Bugera V5 & my crack head cousin found an old SS Kent in the garbage and gave it to me. It has 3 input jacks but only 1 jack works. I keep in the garage & allow it to get moldy & dusty. I primarily play the Envoy cause I guess I want to preserve my tubes in the Jr. & V5. Tubes are expensive. I continue to lust the Teal striped Bandit w/ Scorpion. I see one online nicely priced. I know I don’t need it but I want it! I wonder with the old PV’s if you don’t play regularly that you are always going to get the crackling pots thing. BTW I have perfectly fitted covers for the Jr. & V5. I made a cover for the Bandit 65 out of a dollar store tarp & like I said I allow the Kent to get moldy & dusty in the garage. I have the controls set on the Kent & Envoy. I guess if you don’t move the controls you don’t get static. Sorry I told everyone my life story. If I was living with my in-laws & in the process of moving. I wouldn’t have bought the Bandit cause too loud & heavy. A PV Envoy or Bugera v5 would be good amps to consider.

Nice! It turned out great. I'm glad you didn't get too much water on it during cleaning. The cabinet is made from particle board, and water can get into the screw holes in the Tolex, which disintegrates the particle board when it gets wet. I have one similar to yours that has the Sheffield speaker. I'm thinking about changing the speaker.

That amp was probably sitting in a garage for 20 years, good job cleaning it! I have a silver stripe bandit from the late 90's. It is a very versatile amp, but I only use it for clean and light overdrive sounds. The only negative is that it weighs 48 pounds!

One of these sits next to my Fender M-80 1x12, another killer 80/90's tone. Great vid and demo!

Quite often, you will find an amp that has NO OUTPUT. To test, just bang on the case and see if you can hear the clash through the speaker. Chances are, you have a very dirty "Return" jack that needs cleaning. If the Return is dirty, that will prevent the signal from passing from the Send to the Return to the amp section. Just put a 6 inch jumper cable to test this. Use DeoxIT cleaner or similar to clean the jacks. Ok, dirty pots are also common. These amps are solid. I can find these amps for $100 or less and they might require some light maintenance to get them back up and running like new.

Wow. I just picked one up for 50 bucks (from 1992) to see if I could get it working, saw your comment, did the test with the short cable and that's precisely what the problem was. Sounds like you've been around a few of those peavey amps lol

I recently bought and reconditioned a 1988 Bandit 112, most commonly known as the "No Stripe" model, which is almost identical to the one shown here apart from having just 2 switches (Bright and Channel) and just Bottom and Edge controls on the drive channel. I also had to remove the chasis and the speaker as some pots were scratchy (I just sprayed some contact cleaner and it did the trick) and the Scorpion had a big hole on its cone, the tolex doesn't look like new or anything after warm soapy water and some armor-all but all in all I'm very satisfied after paying a little under a $100 for it (including the speaker being fitted with a new cone), I was surprised to find Dual Lock on it used to affix the grill, I thought that stuff was newer 😅. The amp's clean channel sounds clear, glassy and very responsive to the guitar's volume knob so it should be a great pedal platform, it also has an fx loop! I've seen these go up in price on reverb as many guitar players are catching on the fact that these amps are rock solid and the Scorpion speakers are legendary in the industry and no longer available. I might look for another one if it's the right price.

Love that amp, been having trouble for some time, gain drops, reverb crapping out. Hiting it fixes it for a while

I really need to learn how to use Reaper. I have had this amp for 20 years but haven't really used it at all, just has been collecting dust in storage. I had no idea it was possible to make it sound like that.

One question for you. I don't have the peddle for it. Are there settings I can't access without it or can I still do everyone from the buttons and knobs?

If you still have dust and dirt showing on the black still, you can use black shoe polish. Just wipe it on and then wipe if off, works great on standard black tolex as well.

best way to clean that Peavey hard tolex is to use a semi hard bristle brush. that tolex does collect dust and impossible to clean. Also, this amp was built in 1990. according to Peavey serial number.

Just bought one that needs some love, my plan is to convert it to a head and use the scorpion to replace the missing one in my 212 and use the scorpions for the bandit or my mustang V!

GC is probably the best place to get a reasonably price Bandit 112 as of 2024. In the used market, sellers are starting to get wind of the cult surrounding them and I have seen priced from the 400s to 275 on Reverb and eBay. Probably a quarter of those listings don't wanna ship. I got a silver stripe shipped for $250 out the door. Just call up and ask some questions and move on to the next one on the list if you don't like what you are hearing.
