Omg thank you so much for making this video!!! My great-grandfather was an immigrant from Calabria (Pedace to be exact) in the early 20th century. His name was Giovanni Orsini. In Italian culture sons are named after specific family members, and while the name "Giovanni" is quite common its still really cool to see it pop up throughout history. I've been trying for years to figure out why we have this last name. We don't come from nobility or know of anyone who is noble. But we have the last name "Orsini." It's weird cuz it's not a name given to anyone so I've been trying to figure out where in this tree my family connects. It's fun to think that I'm directly related to all these really interesting people

Thanks for the comment. Unfortunately I have no copy of the Chart, free or otherwise, for public dispaly. Hi @Alaina, I'm Kevin from Rome, I'm studying the story of this family and you can find the hole branch on Wikipedia: it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tavole_genealogiche_della_famiglia_Orsini , I hope it will be helpful for you!
Interesting… just one point; where’s Felice Orsini? He was a big player. Attempted assassination of Napoleon 3rd, known as an Italian revolutionary, and important part of the history of the independence movement.
Not having a go at you, I’m wondering why he seems to have been written out of the family tree. Here’s a link to the infamous plot. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orsini_affair
Thank you Dios, I came across Felice Orsini a while ago and thought about including him. He played an important role in British politics of the time also. The reason why he is not on the chart is for two reasons. Firstly, This was mainly focusing on the noble branches of the family (with Ducal or Papal connections). Felice was an Orsini, but from an obscure and comparatively low branch of the family. Secondly, I aim to find at least some familial link to my families, and I found very little on Felice to connect him to the others. I may well redo the tree one day, in which case, he might be on there. Thanks so much for viewing and the recommendation!
@@CardinalConky I’ve tried finding more information on him and wondered as to whom he was related because he certainly seems to have the kind of background and connections to the bloodline. My grandmother told me on her deathbed that he was a family relation… as he maybe have been a bit of a player when in London 😉
My last name is Orsomarso. It is a small town in southern Italy, in Calabria. Do you think there is any relation to the Orsinis?? Perhaps one emigrated south and founded the town, or is the name totally coincidental?
While I have no idea if that is the case, many branches of the family spread throughout Italy. These includes the Orsini of Tagliacozzo, Pitigliano, Bomarzo, Bracciano, Bari, Rome and of course Gravina. I don’t think that its impossible for the family to have some connection to Orsomarso, but I think Orso is bear in Italian. Could be wrong on that but I suspect that it is in reference to bears rather than the family

Yes. Charlemagne was crowned as King of the Lombards in 774 with the Iron crown of Lombardy. While the title King of the Lombards refers to the people group as well as the kingdom in Italy from 568-774, the term, as far as I can see, is interchangeable with 'King of Italy', a title used all the bay back in the time of Odoacer. Some Lombard kings even styled themselves as 'rex totius Italiæ' . Charlemagne was either the king or overlord of all of Italy, minus some Arab/Byzantine enclaves in the south. He also crowned his son, Pepin, as king of Italy in 781. My point in all of this is that the lines here, for me at least, are blurred. While in hindsight, I should have used the title, 'rex Langobardorum'; 'King of Italy' is both reflective of the situation on the ground in 774, as well as clear for viewers, as Charlemagne was a Frank, and not a Lombard, which could be confusing. My history channel was a creative output for me, where I could discuss and research what I am passionate about. I frequently made mistakes, and always responded to them when they were pointed out. However, I don't appreciate your tone here, which is cynical and unkind. A polite comment would have been quite enough.
