I've had my Formentor VZ since April, can't find enough excuses to get out and drive it, the few people who have driven it just love the way it drives. I think it's a no-brainer over a Golf R especially if you look at the spec of a standard Golf R, DCC costs extra in the golf, leather seats cost extra in the golf, all the safety systems cost extra including the extra airbags the Formentor has, the heated seats/steering wheel, reversing camera, park assist, possibly more that I am forgetting. By the time you add all that up, at least here in the UK, you are paying an extra 6-7 Grand for a Golf over the Formentor with similar spec. The lack of physical controls is a bit annoying at first, but after a few weeks of finding your way around the infotainment and getting it personalized, I've had no issues with it, it's fairly straightforward besides the initial learning curve that comes with it being so different. I'd take the look of the interior over a few extra buttons anyway and honestly even having to use the infotainment for heating controls is straightforward enough that it's little different than having a dedicated knob once you learn how it's intended to be used. Like the touch-sensitive slide controls below the screen, most people when they get in feel the need to swipe them, but honestly, they work better if you just tap them. There is a dedicated defogging button on the lighting controls, which is the only thing you should really need in a pinch and saves you having to navigate the infotainment to get your windscreen cleared up, the voice control activated on the steering wheel actually works pretty well if you need to use it too. I have a feeling that the 0-60 Matt Watson got on the Formentor includes a 1ft rollout, have only managed to match that with my dragy with the 1ft of rollout, otherwise, I'm getting 4.5's 0-60 times, no complaints there though.
I said earlier in the year about wanting an Ateca after your review, scrub that, in waiting for new registrations to come out you have just presented the most amazing weapon and all I'd ever want. Absolutely love it!!!! I mean seriously love it! 👍🇮🇪
I have mine just over three weeks now, and I’m still excited every time I have to go anywhere. Okay, I’ve the PHEV version (I hope this is the 3rd one yet to make it on the channel, Mark!), but it looks practically identical, except for the tailpipes, and the charging port. It’s got one of the best feeling steering wheels I’ve ever held. The sales guy did offer me a spin in this version. As much as I wanted to, I had to turn it down. I knew I’d have cancelled the PHEV order and got this one instead!
Thanks to this video I've got my VZ2 on order for later in the year. Took one for a test drive and only managed to get it to 40mph on a busy road. I cant wait to get behind the wheel and open it up. Opted for no space saver spare wheel so I can drop the floor. I wasn't convinced the boot was big enough given how big prams are nowadays!
Another great detailed review. I’ve seen a few Formentors on the roads of North Co. Dublin. They don’t look as high as an SUV which is great and it makes them stand out more. They’re stunning!!!
I've had this car in the VZ2 310 bhp version for over three months now, yes it is very good but there's that infotainment system that's full of bugs and does some weird stuff like not letting you enter the car, or it can make random phone calls to even slamming the brakes on for no apparent reason whatsoever as just a few examples. VW know about this problem as it's a similar problem across their range of cars fitted with this infotainment system but the Formentor has many electrical niggles that need sorting, what are VW doing about it? Very little.
I had my VZ310hp for almost two months now. Absolutely awesome to drive. Fast and comfortable. Beautiful design all over. But infotainment, assist systems, key less access, drive modes, actually most electronic and software is a never ending nightmare. I would not buy this car again. Oh...and i got the car with no engine cover as that might fall off and catch fire. But the there is a replacement now...which they want EUR 150 for...excellent customer service.
Can't lie I do like the look of it. The badge reminds me of the Decepticon logo from the Transformers! Lol! Having said all that, despite the fact I'm sure it's a great driving thing I don't see the point in performance SUVs especially when you consider that the equivalent hot hatch upon which they're based will handle better and be lighter too.
Ordering a V2 and cant decide on colour, originally liked the graphene but am going off how light and flat it looks, really growing on the camouflage green especially against the copper
go for white, you wont regret it. I got my formentor in white an week ago and I am loving this car. great car and great head turner. It looks gorgeous in white.
Went and tested a VZ2 last week, absolutely fell in love and immediately ordered a VZ3 with full spec, now have a few months wait.... I'm absolutely climbing the walls in anticipation.
I was looking at the Cupra configurator and wondered about the 2.0, 190bhp version. I’ve never seen any reviews of the Formentor 2.0 front wheel drive, so presumably it’s not on the road yet. It might be a more sensible option than the 4 wheel drive model tested here, more economical? If it’s as good as the Golf GTI, I could be interested. Will you be road testing it soon? Given most driving is on congested roads with cameras, it would likely be more than quick enough.
Not sure if out yet and there’s a 1.4 PHEV with 200bhp on sale here so I don’t know if there’d be a market for 245. I’m sure I’ll get it to cover though if it comes here!
@@NobbyOnCars I was mistaken it's not 245, there's a 2.0 190bhp non-hybrid version available here in the UK. It's 4 wheel drive so probably not much more economical than the 310 bhp.
@@podge5555 the colour is Camoflage Green, one of the premium paint options along with graphene grey. Yes graphene grey looks the best by far imo.. matte grey is even better but too much maintenance for me.
Yes it is a lovely car and performs amazingly but what is the depreciation like?I mean its part of the SEAT group.57 grand is an awful lot of money and for sure the Golf will keep its price better.Look also what you can get for 57 grand. Many a lovely car for that money.Maybe as a 2-3 year old car it might makes sense to buy.May i also say that treating SUVS like sports cars, defeats the idea of what SUVS are all about and that is a high riding position and practicality. How much, for example,is the Toyota RAV4 Prime.Again that has 306 bhp and its a Toyota. It will keep its value better and it's a better quality car.
Hey man is same cupra formentor SUV vs golf hatchback small really man is same? Or jokes try compare fsir vs VW SUV plus cupra formentor no need proof anyone is independent brand by racing track ok is better that vw Audi is beat both them go check video plus is best send equal 32-68% awd is use haldex gen system the best in the world mother of antispin system ok like Volvo use 0-100 4.5 sec vs snow 4.7 sec go test with Audi or vw who can do that numbers.

You certainly make a good case for it hearing your experience!
what about driving perspective? I bet Golf 8R won't have a body roll, but Formentor..

@@NobbyOnCars That’s a good sign! Great to see all the content. Great honest reviews.
Looking forward to the next one.

Same here. There’s one that lives near The Yacht, think it’s a 1.5.
Great review. VRT utter joke on new cars though here. Looks like a lot of fun looking at your smile Mark. Engine sounds great.
Simple but comprehensive review of an excellent new car. Only problem now is the lead time to getting a VZ.
Really cool review Nobby. Dying to see one of these on the road. As you said it will take someone very brave to choose one over the Golf R

Great review indeed! Well explained the relevant information!
👍🏻
Excellent road test, as always.
Thanks David
Test drove this not long ago and fell in love! Deciding whether or not to spend the money.

Great informative enjoyable review. Really like the car.

Its a 430L or 420L boot the 450 is for the non AWD

I just got my Formentor VZ 310ps some days ago, and it’s really a nice sports car!

What colour is this formentor ???
Over a Golf R even if comparable to a TRoc R. Should have buttons!
