Got mine back in June, just like the one tested here only in black and with panoramic electric sunroof which is also great as it has two parts the front of which completely slides back and tilts. Done so far 14000 km problem free, just the infotainment had to be rebooted a couple of times and sporadically some driver's assistance systems would go off when starting it in the morning but would come to its senses after a while when driving.. Got to agree with Marek, all his comments were spot on, even the consumption which is at 9-9.5 lt/100 km, of course driving sensibly, if you want to race it easily goes to 11-12. Still the interior has not any signs of wear, seems as day one, not the best looking though quite a lot of plastic but of good quality, everything feels solid and well bolted on, the seats are the best (have the cloth/vinyl ones) don't know what they did with them but works, you can do any long trip and will never feel uncomfortable or tired no matter the setting of the suspension, love them!
Yes, I would consider it. Sensible product well specced if not fully matching on a distinction remit, only by a minor effort which the firm can be deemed culpable. As you implicitly spot with your respectful sharpness. I think the PHEV makes a lot of sense in some countries for the coming 2/3 years. Bravo!
Here in DK it is priced at around 2/3 of a Golf R and even a bit under the Octavia RS. So I am giving it serious consideration. I like the design over the standard Cupra Leon ST as well as it is more special even if it has less boot space.
Great Review, wanted to get Golf R, Skoda Vrs or Tiguan R line, but bought Formentor VZ310 about a year ago, loving it so far, sad on plastic interior, infotainment system crashing, after update is fine, not happy with answering phone as when driving, have to get eyes off the road, look at screen and press on it instead of having a button on steering wheel, voice control don't work in my country! For all the Cuprists out threre, hope you enjoy driving your Cupra as much as I do. 😊
Last year October we went to a Seat dealer to order my wife's new car. In the exhibition hall there was a Cupra Fomentor (exactly the same model as your test-car, Marek). Our daughter (16) was completely flashed and ultimately in love. And even we old ones had to admit: coche muy elegante! Although not cheap, the price is okay for what you get. Good value for money, I'd say.
Great review Marek. I've just replaced my 2019 Golf R with a Formentor VZ2. UK spec' is great value compared with the new mk8 R, as well as being more practical and MUCH better looking.
@@MakN. It came yesterday 28/03 ....very impressive car to be fair! Got petrol blue Nappa seats and the beats audio sub-woofer the car itself I got it in the Nevada white! ✨
In my opinion, the logo is one "tenaza" (spanish) usually it uses on the countryside to cut the bunches of grapes, roses, etc. Futermore, the chefs usually use in the cickhen (but not the same "tenaza") 😉
I would like this car a bit more if it didn't have the pointless 150hp four cylinder as an option when Cupra is meant to be the performance option. But otherwise, I think it looks really cool and has some nice paint and interior options that are unique in the segment.
I have this car in the VZ2 310 bhp version, yes it is very good but there's that infotainment system that's full of bugs and does some weird stuff like not letting you enter the car, or it can make random phone calls to even slamming the brakes on for no apparent reason whatsoever as just a few examples. VW know about this problem as it's a similar problem across their range of cars fitted with this infotainment system but the Formentor has many electrical niggles that need sorting, what are VW doing about it? Very little.
Informative Review! Compared to the Mazda CX30,is the Formentor with 19 inch wheels in comfort mode only a little bit or significant comfortable than the CX30? Was the noise-insulation in the Formentor more than average?
Hey Mr Marek what would you suggest for me (petrol head) and my family with two small children. I'm comparing CLA 45S AMG Shooting brake vs Cupra Formentor VZ5 (with the new 5 cylinder RS3 engine)?
From whom or what are your friends running? That's the only reason a person would run right? Also, I learned when programming your settings, the lesson is, just press sport mode, right? I like this car. It's a very sharp design! Not too sure about the name though... formentor? Sound like tormentor. And formentor sounds like a small kitchen appliance that you make bread in. Your shot at the end of the video looked great. Very nice soft lighting for that time of day! As always, entertaining video!! Thanks Marek
Cap de Formentor. Real place. But I've heard fermentor, formentator, etc. Yes, I get up early to film before people appear. Joggers and cyclists are the worst :-)
Love your style man, great review and easy to watch. Would’ve liked to have heard more about the performance though especially with other EA888 cars. Is it as quick and fun as a Golf R, or is it noticeably slower? Will be subscribing to your channel anyway 👍
I'll admit I skipped the vRS in favour of cars I haven't had on the channel in any form yet. But I'm working on a new schedule, which will allow me greater flexibility in the future.
@@MarekDrives great! btw. love you reviews - it's really good for us to have someone that can state their honest opinion about the cars with a healthy dose of humor :)
Why is there no actual high level 3rd brake light, instead its incorporated in the centre of the light bar, this defeats the purpose of the high level light?
It's not the height that makes the third brake light significant. It's the fact that there is a third brake light is important, as it improves visibility. Carmakers have been placing the third brake light in many places, the easiest of which was under the rear glass either on top of the shelf or under the roof, where it would not obstruct the rear visibility. It is also sometimes mounted on spoilers or trunk lids, so this here is nothing extraordinary.
@@MarekDrives Imagine the scenario you are about 3 cars back from the car with the high level brake light at the high level, when it brakes you would be able to see the light, through the glass of the other cars, warning you in advance that the car is breaking, if the light is at a low level there is less chance of you being alerted earlier
Ateca Sportback. Here is the problem. Seat is a semi sporty brand. Well it was 20 years ago. Now Cupra is the sporty brand of the sporty brand. Fine I guess, but then why do they offer a 1.5 TSI crossover? How is that a sporty sports brand? It's literally a Seat Ateca with a different roof line and an uglier logo.
I tested it yesterday, I think the only drawback is that u r sitting way too low for a cross country car!! Probably the seats that isolate you from passengers at the back could be another one too! Other than that thumbs up, once again thank u marek!😊
What i dont like is that horible cupra sign who looks like some kid transformer movie and just like yo say that motor cover who look like diesel cover for some small diesel.
Marek, cheers, great review and very good choice of exhibit. As for the car - Good but very rare creature except for the Mediterranean. Will go for some crazy enthusiast who by some sudden embarrassment forgot he can have a decent BMW of the similar worth.
to get the exactly same Tiguan or Q3 you need to spend an extra 20-25 thousand, obviously this Cupra and the VAG likes are way off your budget so don't even bother commenting on them as it only shows resentment from your side
I remain unimpressed. Even the design is too generic. At least Tiguan R looks rugged, this looks exactly like what it is - testing the market before they invest any significant funds.
Tiguan zzzzzzzz - all the VW products are so generic and boring. This has some edge to it. Dont get me wrong - I like the Golf R but in estate version it is just not very interesting to look at.
Is exactly the opposite, the Tiguan is very generic, boring inside and out, also pretty basic and old looking interiors too.. If you don´t like this Cupra it´s ok... but one thing is for sure, it´s not generic at all.

Ordered after the test drive. Well equipped over the equivalent rivals and saved plenty of cash to throw into mods.
What mods you done ? I've just got one myself
I’m in love with the formentor. Amazing car
Cupra Leon ST with the same engine drives even better. Weight distribution, aerodynamics etc.

Formentor. Your back will thank you, when you put those kids in the child seats.
It’s the amount of money I’ll loose that would concern me, the desire for Cupra in England is lacking.
I don't think they took off anywhere. But I guess it's a niche brand by design. Somewhat diluted by the lower-end power variants IMO.
Lol.... you sure made some runners reconsider running.
The Cupra Formentor VZ5 2.5T has Audi's RS3 engine.
Nice video as always. I was waiting for for this for a long time. Would you choose this over Stelvio 280hp?
The Stelvio is a great car to drive, but I can't stand the interior, so probably Id' get the Tiguan R.
Thanks for the quick response. Only issue with Tiguan is that it just looks like a box. It doesn't look attractive at all in IMHO.
Maybe I'd look at the Macan then. Base engine is relatively cheap.
