Fun fact: Andrew had to listen tapes of Jonathan singing to grab the voice sound type and do a close interpretation.
That's so interesting and amazing to hear! He definitely did his research and he sounds amazing!!
@@CathlynRoseMcKellar not only that Lin teach him some of Jonathan presentations and some of he’s own when Lin did the show so Andrew could understand the mind behind the genius
@@marcosP97 he is such a professional actor .. if you heard what he did for his performance in the movie ( silence) .. you will understand how much he respected his work and his fans .. OMG .. I love him❤
They actually took old videos from Jonathan recording his apartment and made the set for his apartment look exactly the same.

Nobody knew he could sing...including Andrew himself. He learned for this.
He knew he had the voice but just didn't know HOW to sing
If Andrew doesn't win an oscar for this i will be very upset.

Well, prepare yourself then. There's zero chance of that happening. He was good in the movie, but the film itself was pretty bland.
@@chand911 I thought it was a beautiful film and Lin did a fantastic job adapting a stage show to the screen.
Most times a movie musical comes out, I feel people are surprised to find the actor can sing but usually won't want to listen to them like they would any other music artist. Andrew Garfield, on the other hand, has me genuinely surprised by just how good he is! Those high notes were beautiful and controlled. There was so much energy and life to his voice and I seriously can't stop listening to it

The answer to who knew Andrew Garfueld could sing: Lin Manuel Miranda.
Andrew Garfield didn't even know Andrew Garfield could sing but LMM saw him in a play and by his breathing and line delivery alone sent him to a vocal coach.
Lin actually asked the massage therapist he and Andrew share if Andrew could sing after he saw Angels in America. The massage therapist said of course Andrew can sing, then called Andrew and said please don't make a liar out of me, I told Lin you sing. Andrew trained for a year before filming started.
I can’t stop listening to it. It’s so good!!! Andrew’s voice is SO GOOD!!! I can’t wait to hear more of his voice in the film!
He's high notes were so good and smooth!! Like, how has this man never sung before?!
We need Andrew to do more musicals right now!! He is not allowed to hide his voice from us anymore!

What's wonderful about Andrew Garfield's singing is that he's absolutely acting a character through his singing - something that most singers struggle with. I guess this is the wonderful thing about an actor learning to sing - a good actor who can master singing technique will naturally imbue singing with acting. I read this was the casting strategy behind La La Land too...Emma Stone was cast not primarily for her singing and dancing skills but for her acting skills. She worked like crazy to be able to sing and dance, which she does fine at, but at the end of the day it's her acting through singing that shines through.
And Andrew’s pretty good with accents. He copied Larson’s inflection in singing the song as well as the way the man performed.
A singer would put themselves in a song … guess an actor would put the character they are portraying into the song.

great recation! from what i've seen of his interviews, even Andrew Garfield didn't know Andrew Garfield could sing lol. Lin is either a jedi of finding musical talent in someone, or he just got really lucky.
It was a fabulous movie!! Don’t be afraid to go to the theater. I was literally ALONE in the whole theater. I was to sing along without bothering anyone!

I love seeing other people react to the brilliancy that is Andrew Garfield. My friend introduced me to him as an actor and I'm so impressed with his work!
i think my favourite thing is that andrew learned how to sing for this role, he didnt know he could sing, he had never done it until Lin called and asked if he wanted the role! andrew spent a year in singing lessons

He copied Jonathan Larson’s inflections and mannerisms.
Guess this is the logic behind hiring an actor who can sing versus a singer who can act. With a singer they interpret the song their way so they pass their message to the audience. An actor embodies the character and delivers the message thru the character and they prefer you don’t see them or hear them but see and hear the character.
The other singers are Vanessa Huggins and Joshua Henry. Joshua is a staple of Lin Manual Miranda musicals, and has three Tony nominations.
Lin didn't know he could sing either. Andrew learnt to sing for this role.
Lin strongly believed that he could. Thus why he casted Andrew and set him up with a vocal coach. Gotta give it to LMM how he just knew what he was doing and on his first directorial effort too.

I haven't listened to it yet! I have it on my schedule to do a reaction to it but I'll be doing it a bit closer to when the film comes out on Netflix! There'll definitely be a reaction though! :)
