I've seen those RV's over on Winston for years. The area is kept clean. There is never any drama, partying, noise or drugs. What human being is going to go from living in an RV to sleeping for maybe 5 to 7 hours, if you're lucky, in a foul, crowded, noisy, filthy horror story place with ex-cons, gangbangers, addicts, crazies, and then get roused out of bed at 5:30 am to be shoved out the door at 6:00am and to be homeless once more all day long with no where to go. Whose going to choose that? these shelters are as bad or worse than prison. So, they are giving them the "get out of town" or take a free plane ticket to nowhere option? That's not an option. Those RV's are capitol assets. You can't fit an RV on an airplane. That's madness. For most of those people those RV's are their only meaningful asset and their safety net. So, Breed and Jenkins expect these people to pack up and move to anywhere outside of San Francisco and just start over with nothing just because they might have a relative in some unknown city who may or may not help them out in any meaningful way. What if that relative kicks them out onto the streets? Now they don't even have an RV to stay in anymore. I could call it something else but, I will get censored but, you know what I'm talking about.
Housing communities focused on different types of people and their needs should be constructed (or reconstructed). Women with children need to live amongst themselves as well as complete families, single males, single females, retirees, people with mental illnesses and people with substance abuse problems. Can only imagine the difference I could have made with the billions and billions wasted by this state. The projects would have created myriad of jobs and brought businesses back to California. This clean up by Newsom is an effort to look good so he can be considered for Kamala's VP pick.
Totally agree 👍
Living in an RV taking parking spots away from anyone else, not paying rent or property tax, free loading on city and county services, being a nuisance to neighbors and the public, as if everyone else but themselves need to find solutions for their inability to live in an expensive area. Without any flexibility on finding other solutions, just forcing everyone else to pay or suffer the consequences.
SF should BAN RV living, parked on public streets or parking lots.
The option of going to a shelter is laughable compared to having your own private space (sure it's a trailer, but still better than a shelter by far!), with a lock on the door. So many people choose not to sleep at the shelter because like you said its very dangerous (especially for women and children which is why they often separate them), and your belongings are often stolen.
I think the perspective from the City and County of SF is that this "behavior" has gone on too long, they want people off drugs, inside and working. That's what any City should want for its citizens. But there has to be a plan, you have to get to the root of the problem. It isnt just drugs and mentall illness. Its lack of resources, high housing costs, low housing availability, risings costs of food and necessities. But It has gotten out of control, SF has been and will continue to be a place where we provide a lot of services to folks. But the well is running dry. City workers are tired, burned out and traumatized. The money isn't going to the right places, lots of misappropriated funds. There needs to be way more public outreach, way more detox and rehab programs, way more counselors, social workers and therapists, way more nurses, doctors and police officers. Way more support for these people who are working the frontlines and are first responders. There just needs to be way more help, if San Francisco wants to continue to be a place that attracts those who need help in a variety of ways.
And there needs to be sociologists, people who know how to solve societal issues, working on this as well. So many people have been pushed out of their houses because of rent increasing. I fear for soon it will only be those that are very wealthy can even afford a place to live. Soon we might all be out on the street, getting a bus ticket from Breed.
@@DavidDLee Some people value parking spots in an isolated area where no one parks anyway over human lives and suffering. Ooo more free plane ✈️ tickets ! The city have a lot of those !
I grew up in Park Merced and there was never an encampment like this ever
We need cleaner safer cities for business to thrive for people to get jobs.
Not once were high rents, high energy and inflation ever mentioned as casual factors for the homelessness in this piece. Terrible reporting!
Why didn’t they interview the Joe that cooks up meth in their RV?
The people living in those RVs are HOUSED.
The problem the city has is not the the QUALITY of their shelter, but rather a problem with where it is located.
Offering 1 months rent somewhere should INCLUDE a space at an rv park or campground, but doesn't solve the overall problem.
Build a city owned rv park, and manage it?
Finally. RVs are not meant for our streets. City camping is NOT an option. This is our shared public space and they need to leave.
Kamala's house has a lot of yard room.
They are sharing.
I’m a trucker and have seen countless RVs and campers parked by the side of the road all over the place in the greater Bay area. It’s just unbelievable versus a mere decade ago!
Only took 20 years, good job.
Maybe this could have been prevented if the cost of living didn't have gone sky high
RVs started popping up on Winston Dr. around 2016.
I think they need to build a trailer park type model! If the city wants them they need to make space for them! And an actual space not ad hoc
Nice solution!!!
Unfortunately, there will be folks who have lived in their cars or campers that are inoperable, so they will lose their place of living.
That’s not a crime to park anywhere.
But diversity is our strength. Have you no heart for the less fortunate?
They don’t speak English nor want the help……..
Had an apartment in Daly City. And bought an RV just to go camping? Those type of financial decisions are how you will end up homeless....
To her find me I’ll buy it for 10k take it or leave it
I wonder if "van life" has anything to do with this increase . . . No one wants to work , everyone wants to be a youtube star 😹
has anyone spoke with the coalition of taking a dump on the streets?
the coalition of homeless can go to hell
Yeah, I spoke to them. They are asking the city for free toilets on every corner. 😂
@@MissOakland510 Last I checked, the public toilets in SF cost a million dollars each.
@@MissOakland510 they tried that in LA and Hand Washing Stations...😆 they were always bone dry and the toilets were operated by gang members.
Is the problem really all the homeless or is it the lack of social needs vs corporate profits? Stop blaming homelessness on the victims and go after the greed that put them there.
Probably greed had nothing to do with it. Try coming up with some known, provable facts.
If you can't afford to live somewhere you would think they would look into the surrounding cities or even as far out as Sac.
there's a reason there's a job shortage for those minimum wage places. Not everyone has the opportunity to make 100 K plus a year
No, don't stop at Sac. Lot's of space past Reno to park those RVs. No state income tax and low cost of living.
Leave Sac out of this. It’s bad enough 😡
someone can't afford to live here, how do you expect them to afford to move?
@@LoveLee-jz1tj they were able to come here, they should be able to get out
Blame the corporate matrix, they have billions tied up in land and real estate, not to mention the high tech industry absorbing all forms of monetary sources for themselves.
I can afford a 100000 $ rv. But cant find a home. What a bunch of crap.
A home in Sanfrancisco is $1 million & up. A $100k Motorhome is less than the down payment and no monthly payments or property taxes or crazy expensive insurance.
@torsten6777 I can't afford to live Hawaii so I don't. Move to where you can. No excuses
They don’t have enough money to live in San Francisco. That’s their choice to be in the RV in San Francisco living by the ocean is what we all want, but most of us taxpayers working class can afford it so we live in the surrounding area. There’s plenty of other towns in California. They can move to that is way cheaper, but they choose not to. Stop 🛑 feeling sorry for these people get them out of San Francisco.
That’s a western thing. In Asia it means your broke cus you live near typhoon zone.
They have no right it's a public place
So the public place is not really public?
You can use it but others can’t?
I live in East Bay and no RV's allowed to park on public streets, not even on drive ways.
RV can be parked inside the yard at home, but has to be covered.
Same with boats!
Even cars are only allowed to park for 24 hrs on public streets than had to be moved!
Parked my car Infront of my neighbors house on the street, she called the police, who marked my tires with chalk lines to monitor if I moved my car or not.
Not sure, how SF allows RVs on public streets, people living in it?
🤔🤔🤔
Maritime and roads are the same in terms of navigational laws
I see a lot of RVs living on public streets on Oakland. Permanently camped out. There’s also a large encampment between Berkeley and Emeryville.
I see RVs all the time here in the "east bay". I guess it depends which area you're referring to. Not sure if they have to move their vehicles every so often but it seems like they're parked on public streets and even frontage roads facing SF bay all the time.
Dude. This post has so much nonsense in it should be deleted….
Fremont. Take 880 toward San Jose. You can spot them on city streets from freeway. Lake Elizabeth. There's a few at the library.
Well has anyone seen the movie robocop 3 fiction has become reality the revolution is coming people we living on crap and now they want it poverty has become a crime and that makes me BILLY THE KID!!!!!!!!!
“San Francisco’s mayor” doesn’t care about anything except her own career.
We can find places to park RVs. Stop harassing poor people.
Why is ABC news making it appear as if citing these HM's is a new thing? How about reporting people living in MH's, RV's, and cars can park as long as they want and rack up $1,000's of dollars in tickets and nothing will happen to them thanks to the homless coalition. Go to SFMTA pay tickets and type in any of those license plates and see how much they owe in tickets. The only way it gets towed is if their vehicle registration is expired over 6 months or parked in a red zone. ONLY IF IT'S NOT OCCIPIED.
The city SF and all MUST STOP the RV storage places from giving the RV for free (because the owners did not come back to get them do to COVID and now the storage are stock so they give it free so they will get their money from TAXES) if the Countys and city's will do their jobs this will never be a problem. we have to pay property tax, ins, car regs, ins and more
Thanks to Biden & Pam.
All illegal aliens or what?
My experience living on the coast has been a hilarious insanity. It’s like living in a trailer park but you pay more than all the other trailers cause yours isnt mobile 😂
When you see piss being dumped out of a Van on your block, and you pay 2k for an apartment. You have to ask yourself who’s really the idiot here. The person who can leave at any point? Or the person who’s locked into a lease that states regardless of the freeloaders around you, you’re gonna pay 2k 😂 Truly a Hilarious insanity.
2k what a bargain
Proof that the slippery slope argument is not a fallacy.
In order to park on a public street, your vehicle needs to be legally registered, you need to have insurance, and you need a physical home address. Where do they mail the tickets to?
Van down by the river
@@RaymondHng from google: "In several jurisdictions, using a PO box on registration is either completely forbidden or severely restricted to the extent that it may only be used when you provide a physical address. In certain states, like California, you may only use a PO box to register a vehicle if you meet certain conditions."

@@mason5540 I use a PO Box for my vehicle registration in California with no problem. I do supply a physical address, but that is not printed on the registration card.
People in rv are different from those in tents. People in RV are truly victims of unaffordable housing.
a lot of these homeless people are veterans that put their lives on the line for your freedoms. plus living in your RV car or tent is the new American dream a lot of people can not afford 3,500 4,000 a month rent they have to live somewhere the same god that made them made you and someday you could find yourself homeless the way this country is going have some respect for your fellow Americans that are down on their luck and living hard times it is the American way or at least that is the way it use to be just because you are poor and down on your luck dose not make you a bad person most of these homeless people would give you their last dollar if you needed it and you were down on your luck.
@@CalvinMorris-cf8jk The several people interviewed can't speak english. They're not Americans and definitely not veterans.
A lot of them are Mexicans that ran across the border
