@user-yz2em5tf3w Hi! Yes, I think he never forgot where he came from and remained grateful. Probably that's why he was so generous with friends...and strangers. Thanks for watching 👍
Incredible what you have done. Thank you !!! I was in Tupelo last month, and visiting the birth house, I have been surprise to know that the family move there after 3 years, and live in many places until 1948...very very nice job..
is it any wonder why Gladys worried so much? Going from place to place over and over again, never rock steady in their lives? I just wish she could have enjoyed Elvis looking after them and lived life in abundance.
You're right Dorie. But the one constant in their lives would seem to be the family bond through adversity. Vernon's constant search for work and a better living wage really contradicts many people's opinion of him being lazy that's for sure!

Hello, I was there in the house where Elvis was born in Tupelo, there was a lady sitting in a chair on the other side of the ropes.....I passed by her...then a lady in the Kitchen told me that she was Elvis's grandmother.....I was wondering why the lady kept looking at me, I'm sorry I did not say anything to her.....John Steelman from North Carolina....
Vernon didn’t forge the check. He allowed two men to copy the signature of the check he received for the pig. They forged a check and then gave Vernon some money afterwards. Vernon explained and admitted his role from the beginning but got sentenced harshly.
Thanks for watching and commenting Eio! 👍. Most accounts including from Guralnick's book say it was 'evidently altered' by Vernon, Travis Smith and Lether Gable, and Elaine Dundy says it's unclear whether it was from $4 to $14 or $40. One of Vernon's friends said it was as you state, a different cheque. Either way, Vernon went down!
@@OceanHops , thank you for responding. I obtained the information I based my comment on from the Spa Guy channel, a video he titled Why Vernon Presley went to prison 1938 myth busted Elvis Presley. Billy interviews a Mr Turner who provided Documents and witness accounts and a letter from Mr Beal, who bought the pig from Vernon, stating Vernon did not forge the check/s in question totaling $40.
@@Eio7 yes Roy Turner actually collaborated with Elaine Dundy on her book. He also was prominent in the Return to Tupelo doc which is well worth seeking out.
Elvis came from humble beginings and never forgot his roots and he never changed at all he was a wonderfal man

Hi John - thanks for watching 👍. Wow, what year was that as Minnie died in 1980? I know the home opened in '72.
@@OceanHops Hello @Ocean Hops , I don't really know...sorry....John Steelman
Graceland started public house tours in1982,
not 1972. 4-18-22
Hi Cynthia. We were discussing the Tupelo birthplace, not Graceland.
Vernon didn’t forge the check. He allowed two men to copy the signature of the check he received for the pig. They forged a check and then gave Vernon some money afterwards. Vernon explained and admitted his role from the beginning but got sentenced harshly.

I don't understand why him just trying to survive got Vernon prison time. Crazy!
Very harsh times! Thanks for watching Dorie.
You do the crime, you get the time. The motivation is moot.
Kelly street house recently for auction august meticulously dismtled and stored......
Hi Stevie - thanks for the information. 👍👍
Solovrly.

So. Lovely.
It's a beautiful area down there in Tupelo. Thank you for watching Maureen. 🙂
