Elvis Presley Autumn/Fall 1956 - Homecoming Tupelo concerts and gas station fight! This is the next installment of my potted history of Elvis Presley - an Elvis biography - that incorporates the places I have been lucky enough to visit while on holiday in 2017 and 2019. Following Elvis first film Love Me Tender, Elvis first Ed Sullivan Show appearance and recording of Elvis' second LP 'Elvis', he was back in his hometown of Tupelo for the now famous Elvis Tupelo concert appearance at the Mississippi-Alabama Fair & Dairy Show of 1956. A few weeks later, and home in Memphis a more infamous appearance with Elvis in court. Elvis and the gas station fight with Edd Hopper and Aubrey Brown at the Gulf station on 2nd and Gayoso had happened the previous night. This further enhanced the perception of Elvis the rebel in a good way for fans and a bad way for the general public!! Elvis was not guilty, and when when Elvis left the Memphis courthouse photographers and fans were waiting. Another public disorder then occurred just 2 days later when Elvis was at the Plaza Cinema on Poplar Ave where Elvis and June Juanico had to escape with a police escort following their identification at the cinema. Elvis black limousine was not so lucky!! Elvis and June Juanico had spent the summer together in Biloxi but their romance would end this year.

This is the 'Homecoming' statue depicting Elvis' homecoming concert Wednesday September 26 1956
This is where Elvis would have actually been performing.
Elvis had flown home with his cousin Gene Smith and his new Hollywood buddy Nick Adams.
Elvis had been in Hollywood of course filming 'Love Me Tender'. So he'd flown home for a little bit of relaxation, and show Nick Adams around Memphis.
He came here on the 26th directly in the car with girlfriend at the time Barbara Hearn.
October 18 1956 Elvis was here in Memphis not long after finishing up production work on 'Love Me Tender'. Elvis fight with the gas station attendant on the corner of Second and Gayoso.
Elvis was in his Lincoln Continental to pick up girlfriend Barbara Hearn who at the time was
working at Lowenstein's up on Main.
the gas station attendant came out and gave him a slap, to which Elvis understandably didn't take too kindly and gave him a slap back, and it didn't get very far before the police were on the scene though and they were all arrested - Elvis, Ed Hopper and the attendant - and were in court the next day, October 19 1956, where Elvis was acquitted.
On 19 October 1956 Elvis was in court with Ed Hopper where Elvis was acquitted of any wrongdoing.
This was once the Plaza cinema. It wasn't a cinema that Elvis came to
October 21 1956 he brought his Biloxi girlfriend June Juanico, here to see the film reel film footage of his 'Welcome Home' Tupelo concerts
The visit ended in Elvis and June having to have a police escort
out of the cinema after he was recognized.
They got out unscathed but Elvis's car was quite damaged with all the girls wanting to just have a piece of anything that related to Elvis. Elvis also wanted to get out quick because he'd been in court just two days before and although Elvis was cleared on the 19th the judge told him to keep away from any situations that might cause public disorder. To put that into context just a week later Elvis was making his second appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show in New York.

Incredible the day I was born
Hi Marie. Yes, I've looked at my birth date but he wasn't doing much that day 😄. Thanks for watching 👍
Bet your getting fed up with me LOL. But I'm really enjoying what you do. There is a colour film of the parade on utube its got his mom and dad talking on a radio station then Nick Adams talks on the station. It's on, Tupelo welcome home Elvis presley 1956 the name of the channel is called Farid Lahcen, its very good.
Absolutely not! Really glad to have you watch and comment 🤗. I'll take a look at that video - the audio for the interviews with his parents and Nick Adams are on the 'Golden Celebration' box from 1984 but I don't believe I've seen colour footage.
👏👏Loved it, as usual. You are the new Spa Guy😁😁
Thanks Roger - very kind! 🙂

June Juanico not mention anything about that interference with police. To me seems that she's more upset on Elvis rather than his manager who didn't liked her... But great story, thank you.
You are welcome- thank you for watching and commenting 👍
was he dating Bárbara and June at the same time?
Yes he was Pi Ditte! Barbara was his 'Memphis' girlfriend.
@@OceanHops I see, thanks for answering. Great channel
Thank you 👍🙂
She says they dated in the 50s and 60s. Most people say maybe a year. Personally, I think most of their pictures look like publicity shots. He proposed to June and she toured with him. In 1956, he spent Christmas Day with a Vegas show girl. June suspects Colonel Parker set it up and in March Elvis came to get her to come to the new home he bought, Graceland. She broke it off because she felt betrayed. However, I believed he loved her his entire life. I would highly recommend her book.
@@Elizabeth-dw6lc I 💯 agree. They never forgot
each other. I really think that JUNE was his
first true and serious Love 💞 His mgr was
always interfering with their relationship.
